Iran, Saudi Arabia, Yemen and Pakistan were among members of the UN’s 54-nation economic and social council, a principal organ of the world body, who voted to single out and condemn Israel yesterday as the only country in the world that violates women’s rights.
Armenia voted in favour of this resolution, which is really strange.
I’m ethnically Armenian and members of my grandmother’s immediate family were executed by Muslim Turk soldiers in the early 20th century.
I suspect it has to do with Israel’s not recognizing the slaughter of Armenians by Muslim Turks as a genocide because Israel likely needs Turkey more than it needs Armenia.
As left wing fascism rises so does anti semitism. Probably just a coincidence.

Just an aside but I believe well over 450 UN resolutions have been against Israel. The Jew hatred is palpable in the UN and all Arab countries will vote on anything against Israel.

Canada appears to have voted with the United States against the resolutions, reflecting, perhaps, a realization among Canadian diplomats who the Canadian people’s real friends are—and a renewed willingness to defy their Jew-hating boss now that she’s on her way out the door.

Yeah, seeing the UK on that list really surprised me, especially given the obviously-weighted outcome-to-be. What would it have cost them to stand with their traditional (and long-standing) western allies?
The UK tends to be very solicitous of its commercial links with the Saudis and Gulf states.
The FCO types were traditionally always Arabists; the modern British “fat-businessman-in-a-company-lease-BMW” crowd are dazzled by the opulence and money-making opportunities “out there”.

An equally logical explanation would be that the UK abstained due to the caretaker convention. When the head of the government is in flux (as would have been the case during the May-Boris transition), the bureaucratic “caretakers” cannot take sides.
