The college admission scandal, where a herd of rich Democrat donors paid a ton of dough to get their half-wit progeny into Snooty U, was the perfect encapsulation of how big a rip-off college really is. Did you notice how the parents forked over cash to get Junior into school because Junior scored 112 on his SAT and then…Junior stayed in the elite school with no problem? You might think that if these schools were rigorous institutions of higher learning instead of ruling class credential rubber-stump machines, they might flunk out? But no. When the internet famous daughter of that (former) Full House / Hallmark-movie-about-a-widow-finding-love-with-a sexy-carpenter-at-Christmas starlet Lori Loughlin was busted, she was literally sailing around the Bahamas on a yacht owned by a USC trustee.
I guess she needed a break from her work carrying on Dr. Hawking’s particle physics research.
Yet the ones put there at the point of a gun, whose test scores may be worse, tuition paid for by US taxpayers, spend most of their time spitting in the faces of the very people who paid their way. Screaming at Conservative speakers and protesting pretty much everything.. So I think I prefer the former students. But hey, I’m a racist.

According to what I have seen on crazy days and nights (https://www.crazydaysandnights.net) she might have been paying more than money to get the kid in and stay in. Yachting is apparently code for prostituting in Hollywood as its prostitution that happens on yachts in the off season as actresses attempt to secure work favours or who knows what.

I have no problem with people using their own money to get their kids into schools. I have a big problem with affirmative action students who are allowed into schools they would never get into if they couldn’t play football or basketball. at least the parents are using their own money instead of taxpayers having their money stolen.

I think you will enjoy following Kurt. He writes fairly deep articles. You might like his novel, “People’s Republic”. This is a novel about where he thinks the US is heading. Kind of like Red Dawn, but with a totally domestic civil war scenario.
When I was a kid there were no student loans and the majority of kids who went to university had wealthy parents. Who cares if some rich person forks out millions to get their kid a sub level education? If a person really wants something they will work to get it.

Do you REALLY fail to understand that college has been dumbed down specifically to make sure the correct number of “diversity” entrants can graduate, no matter how stupid they are or how little they do? And with THAT being the case, why wouldn’t these entitled entrants also be able to graduate?
And bob, please let me reassure you that the affirmative action “students” are not only athletes. A whole shitload of them aren’t even able to do that. My roommate at Cornell in 1968 was a Hispanic who got in because Cornell wanted to be “diverse”. At least with the athletes, the university can get some alumni donations which more than pay for the cost of the “students” education if the teams are successful. Now if they end up with loser chimps, then that’s another matter…

I frequently encountered that while I was teaching at a certain post-secondary institution. I was often “encouraged” to pass specific students because they were the progeny of certain moneybagged parents. Those parents often owned firms that hired our department’s graduates and, well, I think you get the picture.
One of my first students was such a privileged sort. He did as little as possible, making sure he passed (though often barely), because he was going to take over Daddy’s business after he graduated. And, yes, he was often a pain in the proverbial because he knew he was going to get away with it.

I know this because I was told that by instructors that don’t have an idea who I’m what I know or don’t know.
