I, For One, Welcome Our New Self-Driving Overlords

Shush now, Luddite.

The European Union has provisionally agreed to force every car sold in Europe starting in 2022 to include software designed to slow drivers down if they break the speed limit.

EU leaders on Monday agreed that every car, van, truck, and bus should be fitted with a feature called “Intelligent Speed Assistance” designed to slow them down if they go too fast.

The software uses a combination of GPS, sign-recognition cameras, and advanced map software to pinpoint a vehicle’s location and the local speed limit. The software is designed to automatically slow down vehicles found to break the limit.

You don’t know what you’re talking about, because buggy whip.

  1. And the next step is automatic issue of tickets.

Hey, people wanted more government; people deserve to get it good and hard.

If Europe was sane, then all sales of new cars will now stop. If North America is sane, all sales of new cars will now stop. Refuse to buy On-Star, Ford Sync, or any such software along with any vehicle (new or used). When worldwide sales of Fords go to zero, perhaps one globalist starts to think there is a fight on their hands.

Cause you know this software is already in every (or coming soon to) GM, Ford, Chrysler, BMW, Honda, VW, Nissan, Renault, Fiat, Tata, Suzuki, Yamaha, Harley Davison, …

      1. Men to the left, women and children to the right. After the necessary showers there will be a light lunch and then the guards..err.. guides will explain why you are here.

        1. And that is precisely where this country is headed. We are Ruled by Trans National Socialists….NAZI’s. Nor do I buy for a minute that it will dramatically change with simple simpering scheer in power. He too will bend the knee….

Republic of Western Canada….NOW..!! Before we all end up in the Kamps.

As an Aside – Who in their Right MIND would buy a New 2022 Vehicle..?? but, maybe they already know what our reaction will be and this is just another sleazy plank in the Climate Change Scam….hmm.?? Killing Personal Transportation – the Socialists are always promoting “mass” Transit…? (for us of course – not them)

    1. So, if the gov’t takes responsibility by passing a law that stops speeding then that must also mean that if a problem occurs due to the car having the wrong speed then the gov’t is also responsible.

      Examples:
      1) the car erroneously thinks it is in a 50 zone, when it is really a 30 zone. The go’vt pays the ticket right? The driver assumed the car was right, because the law says that the car must know the speed zone.
      2) the car thinks it is in a 30 zone, when really it is a 100 zone. A semi plows up its rear side and kills several people. The gov’t is responsible right? The driver tried to go faster, but couldn’t. While he could slam the gas to over-ride, as soon as he got to the 100 limit he had to let off and the car braked back to 30 right away.

Really, the gov’t will be responsible in these cases right. I am 100% sure of this. No Gov’t ever passes the buck.

Lawyers are going to have a field day with this nonsense

      1. That is the thing about the government “paying” for things; government does not produce value. They don’t grow food, refine metals, nothing.

If you sue the government, they just raise your taxes and pay you with your own money. Not really any point to that, now is there.

        1. A wrongful death suit can cost millions, that’s more than most people pay in taxes.

So, yah, if the gov’t imposes a system which causes a death it is rather important to be clear about who is responsible.

Nevertheless, my question is rhetorical as I’ve never actually seen a responsible gov’t. It was meant to point out that under the guise of providing more safety, what this concept is really about is more control. Safety will not be improved and will likely be reduced.

    2. I wish I were smart enough to take advantage of this. This is a golden opportunity for an enterprising programmer/hacker to make a zillion dollars selling an app / software that defeats this ‘Big Brother’ assault on our freedom.

    1. Hey Village Idiot are you impersonating our PM Turdeau? That name has been taken … find a different one.

  2. Government mandated “Intelligent” software – why would anyone think this could possibly turn out any better than say Boeings flight management software ? I predict bodies everywhere . . .

  3. Aaaaand if tickets are issued based on a software or sensor error your appeals will fall on deaf ears. I guarantee.

    1. Tickets won’t be issued. They’ll just automatically deduct the fine from your bank account, or they might just deduct it from your pay check.

  4. More than likely, this is a Trojan Horse method of knowing the location of every vehicle in the EU at any time. The EU can’t collapse soon enough. Why does lunacy always seem to start there?

    1. Because they can’t stand the idea of some peasant making a decision they didn’t approve. Native European culture rewards power-hungry @$$holes.

The very idea of the average schmoe being able to get in a car and drive wherever they want makes the Euro-elite crazy.

  5. huh.
soooooo, whataboud the ‘no speed limit’ autobahn?
ah. right. *all for the elites now*. kinda like those Moscow street lanes reserved for leonid et al.

Im still puzzled kinda WHY eurodopes would bring this on their OWN heads.
    whaaaaal shyt. there I go again, thinking logically . . . . . .

and another thing, anyone want an idea how this will all play out re ‘all hail the techno’, watch a couple episodes of ‘Mayday’ regarding the A300 etc approach.
    (hint: a BIG splat!!!!)

    1. HB – I suspect that’s going to be the pay-for-hacker’s route, reprogram the GPS inputs to say the driver is on the autobaun 24/7, so speed limits do not apply.

It all depends on how long it takes the goverment to look into why 2-25% of the population is driving for 24 hours a day, outside their home country of France / Italy / Greece.

  6. Not a surprise.
Add the end of paper money, CCTV on every corner and mandatory personal GPS.
All the technology is in place.

  7. Who needs trains, when we have self-driving electric cars controlled by Big Brother.*
    *Drive-through gas chambers.

  8. This is simply FORCED behaviour. Funny though … because it’s coming from the same people who say that you cannot “force behaviour” by making drugs illegal. That all drugs should be legal … cause “people are going to do drugs anyway”. But they sure as hell AREN’T gonna let you drive 56mph.

I can’t drive 55 … no matter WHAT Big Sister tells me to do.

  9. and another thing, Im waiting and waiting and . . . . . . . .
for an answer re wtf are the licensing rqmqnts to put a self driving ‘google pioneered’ car on the road?
it occurred to me, wtF would stop some bored, rich, sociopathic brat gearing one up with onboard live feed and let loose to see how many near misses it can cause. yo, mpp . . . . . . . sound of crickets since january . . . . . . . . . .

nonsense you say? do a search ‘rogue drone airliner near misses’

  10. For a time, Greyhound buses in Canada had speed governors on them. They were removed.

In practice, they were extremely dangerous, because the ability of buses to safely pass slow moving vehicles on two lane highways was impaired.

Of course, the kind of people who dream up these laws have never seen a two lane highway. Probably never left the city.

  11. Self-driving overlord, are you kidding me? Our overlords have given us two Boeing aircraft crashes. I have
commented on this site that computers cannot be made to think! The two Boeing crashes were the result
of engine swaps that changed the axial center of gravity. The Code Monkeys responded by creating a few
lines of code to compensate for the change of the center of gravity. They were oblivious to the fact that the
horizontal stabilizers had their own subroutine. Front wants to go down, and back wants to go up!

Whoever wrote this code should be made to pay the price for their idiocy. If you want to know why these
    planes crashed, have a look:
