  1. In the last 4 weeks we’ve had only 24 hours of the temperature being above the normal lows (nothing reaching normal highs). For 24 hours now the windchill has been -40 (C/F) or colder. The calendar says March 3. Global warming is what I want!

    1. It’s in the -20s all over Alberta. Wind power is at 22% of capacity. Even though the sun is up and shining, Brooks solar is putting out 0.

  2. and that is a working dog – not his ‘fur baby’. A dog bred with purpose and doing what she is supposed to do. Happy and healthy. I too love purebred dogs

    1. *gasp*! Pure-bred animals are the beastly equivalent of the Aryan race. All those pure breeders might as well be Dr. Mengeles carrying out Hitler’s orders. Ohhhhhhhh maaammmmmaaaa! If only ‘Claire’ had some Pit Bull DNA … she wouldn’t be compulsively chasing the Mules. Her ‘purity’ has doomed her to a life of narrow, compulsive, activity. The horror, the horror. No, she’s not ‘happy’ doing her ‘job’ … she’s enslaved by it.

      /sarc.

I, too, LOVE GMO animals. Claire appears to be having a ball! And keeping the mule team tidy.

      1. She reminds me of the last dachshund in my family. He absolutely loves playing “fetch” (or as my late father called it, “go und get it”). The little guy lives for that and could do it for hours at any time of day. That’s one reason he enjoys staying with me when I’m in town.

He particularly likes irregular bouncers. They can change direction suddenly, depending on how they land and it’s fun for him when that happens just before he catches them.

  3. Well, this might spell the moment when the climate change movement finally collapsed.

You try telling Gran her darling ginger cat or little Shih Tzu must be put down in the interest of Mother Earth.

    1. Agreed. I’ll put down anyone who tries to put down my dog before his time.

      1. Oh, that’ll be taken care of once sharia becomes national law. After all, the religion of peace considers dogs to be unclean.

        1. And doesn’t sharia forbid music and dancing? Unless you think the “call to prayer” wailing is a nice substitute for music. What a sorry life is waiting for the “woke”.

          1. I think they allow songs about doing nasty things to the enemies of Allah.

        2. more than once Ive encountered a muzzie famblie with the requisite burka whilst out on a stroll with the canine.
which then gets a big ‘pooch smooch’ straight on the mouth by moi. whilst I maintain a sideways glance at the mortified expressions. heh heh heh.
I vote we permanently and completely REFUSE to send any sniffer critters to muzzie earthquake sites since, well, islam.

  4. ‘Border collies make damn poor pets’, an old rancher buddy of mine once told me years ago. He had champion cattle dogs and knew what he was talking about. We’d sit and talk dogs by the hour. He knew that working dogs need to work.

When he and his old queen had to sell out and move to town they had a sale (auction). The 2 dogs he had left were sold at the auction.
Dog guys from far and near came hoping to get a chance at dogs of this calibre. Both dogs went to new owners for big money.

Another guy from across the valley moved to town about the same time. He took his border collie with him but the dog was doomed. With no cattle to work the dog started to work cars that came down the street….within 2 weeks it was dead. A lot of farm/ranch dogs just stay on the place when it’s sold and live with the new owners.

I’m not as hung up on ‘purebred’ dogs, cattle or anything for that matter (hybrid vigour) although my old German grandma used to say, “every pig at it’s own trough.” She was referring to marriage.

Buddy in the vid says he likes everything ‘purebred’. Guess that includes mules….

    1. “Guess that includes mules….”
The white mule with paint markings is a rare animal; it’s hard to get that color in a mule.

    2. The thing is, without a good horse and a good donkey to start with, you would never get a good mule. I imagine it’s like that with cattle. If you want a specific trait you can cross breed purebred cattle to get that trait, but if all cattle were randomly bred and became mutts, you would never have the baseline of specific traits to bread for since all cattle would be the same.

  5. “He knew that working dogs need to work.”

Actually, most dogs need to work. Silly little chihuahuas don’t consider themselves silly little chihuahuas; as far as they’re concerned, they’re dogs, dammit. And they need lots of good, robust exercise like any other dog.

  6. I resolve in future not to try to figure out Kate’s headlines until I have read the article or watched the video.

  7. All dogs like people need exercise.

Border collies need work. They are very intelligent and if they are trained to work cattle they never stop. You can see it in the vid. The dog is constantly heading the horses/mules. It’s a game with them and even though the dog master calls off the dog she goes right back to work. That is why they make poor pets.
