This Is Not Your Grandma’s Humane Society

As progressive veterinarians declare war on ethical Canadian dog breeders (wake up livestock producers — you’re next), the foreign “retail rescue” imports continue to flood in. And they’re bringing hitchhikers;

New Imported Distemper Strain in Dogs

Attempts were made to isolate the virus from the samples submitted for PCR, but with no success. Our next effort was to try to obtain sequence for virus directly from the nucleic acid used for the RT-PCR assay. This was successful for the F and H genes of CDV. Phylogenetic analyses of the sequences against various clades of CDV, indicated the imported dog was infected with the Asia-1 strain of CDV. We have no information on the existence of this clade of CDV in North America.

While we have been most concerned with the importation of canine influenza virus from Asia to North America by improper procedures by various “rescue” groups, the importation of CDV may be more significant in that CDV once it enters an ecosystem cannot be eradicated even with effective vaccines. Once again the North American dog population is being put at risk by those who have no regard for the importation of foreign animal diseases.

That’s right. They’ve imported a new form of distemper for which there’s no vaccine.

Update: …one dog out of a group of 26 dogs that were imported from Egypt by Unleashed Pet Rescue and Adoption in Mission, Kansas, tested positive for rabies.

  1. Rather than focus on these stupid little things that cause a little pain once in a dog’s life, it’s about time they get serious and start banning the breeds that cause the most pain, not to mention attract the type of people that cause pain to others.

    the breeds that rhyme with “bit-pull”.

    Yeah….and the millions of dollars they’re spending to quarantine and ship a few mangy disease ridden curs from some farm in the orient. It’s amazing the lengths people will go to to make themselves feel like they’re making a difference. I guess that explains a lot of things nowadays.

    1. Great idea! Next we can ban:
      Christians because they priests are prone to pedophilia;
      Islam because terrorists;
      Cars – their operation kills thousands every year;
      Guns, because criminals use them to kill people;
      Alcohol- people do stupid things when they drink it;
      Caucasians – the cause of all the world’s problems;
      The internet – used to propagate hate and disinformation;
      Exhaling – CO2 causes global warming;

      But I digress….

    2. rick . . . rick . . . . rick . . . . . ah yes, ‘rhymes’ with PRICK.
      read up some biology texts. pathogens are LIVE and MULTIPLY, thus
      ‘a few here and there’ become a plague.
      prick.

    3. “rhyme with “bit-pull””

      $hit bull? You spelled it backwards. And then go after German Sheppards, Dobermans, Ridgebacks, Rottweilers? Like the idiots in Ireland did? For the children? If it only saves one life? Screw you. You’re no different than gun grabbers or MADD.

  2. I’ve had this discussion with idiots who want to virtue signal with their rescue dog. It doesn’t go well. They are incapable of understanding that their moral pretentiousness is causing death and destruction.

    When you look in their eyes, it is clear that not only are there no lights on at home, the bulbs they have installed are CFL, certified by the CSA, and powered by wind turbines that aren’t connected to the grid.

    I’ve no time for most city vets, they are self absorbed azzes who could care less about the animal they are treating and more about how much money is left in your pocket. Nice of them to once again virtue signal about unnecessary surgery but have no trouble quoting you 2700$ to operate on a 14 year old dog to add maybe another 9 months of life.

  3. We have a neighbour who just “fostered” a dog, a Golden retriever.

    From Turkey.

    There are currently six dogs in our local shelter.

    1. The Turks have been breeding Goldens for sale to the “rescue” market now for a few years. The importers fund raise off the sad puppy pictures to cover the flights, then farm them out to stupid “fosters” who pay the bills until the rescue can flip the dog at a profit.

    2. I saw someone new when I was out walking my dog the other day. His dog had three legs. I asked what happened to it and was told that he didn’t know, they got it that way from a rescue organization in Texas. I didn’t say anything, but I thought there have to be rescuable dogs closer to home than that if you feel the need to get a mutt.

  4. Didn’t these dogs go through quarantine?

    …and if they did, why wasn’t this caught?…how in this world did a dog go through quarantine with rabies??

    1. this is precisely the Q I posed the local LIEberal mp about 6 months ago, again later, and again this week.
      stone silence.
      except the sound of crickets . . . . I wonder where *they* came from.
      LIEberals wanna make this a single issue election? fair enough, for me, THIS is it.

  5. Just watched a video from Germany where fire fighters pulled a fat rat so they called it out of a hole in a manhole cover and let it go.The fat rat likely gave birth shortly after.So not surprised at how stupid people are with animals

    1. That’s nothing. I used to see people feeding the “squirrels” (“why doesn’t that squirrel have fur on its tail??”) down at Granville island in Vancouver.

      Yes, we need a famine.

  6. The rescue crowd should go to an Indian rez where the dogs run wild.

    They eventually form into packs threaten and at times attack people. Then the guns come out and the locals knock them back.

    Rescue a Canadian dog from a rez.

  7. we should not be importing dogs or muslims, but given a choice I’ll take rabid dogs over muslims
