  1. Very good speech by Trump. He can do it. Now, tell me. What is wrong with Pelosi’s mouth? It is so disconcerting to see her jaw slipping and sliding all the time he’s speaking. And what did the group of women in white represent? Didn’t seem to have anything to do with aborted babies and infanticide, so what?
Loved Bernie’s mad face; don’t need an explanation for that.

    1. The women in white were there to represent women and the suffrage movement. It is 100 years since they have the right to vote in the USA.

      1. Well, I feel sorry for them then because it completely failed. Maybe they should have just worn a dark dress to represent the women who died and suffered for the cause and a nice white sash (like the Queen would wear) with a 100 year pin. They would have looked dignified. My first thought was it was a group of socialists banning together for some reason, and then hoped the white represented the innocence of the babies who will be killed up to and after birth.

        1. I agree. They missed out on the other 2 colors, green and purple, which also represents the suffrage movement.

          1. American suffragists were almost all Republicans, and Republican men were the ones who voted for women’s suffrage. But you won’t learn that from TV.

      2. As I posted elsewhere this morning, the dems showed how truly ignorant and lacking in self-awareness they are. They probably aren’t even aware of the Ladies In White protest movement in Cuba. Women who since 2003 have weekly risked beatings and arrest to protest the authoritarian communist government which runs their country. These hags in the House of Representatives wish to bring that form of government to our country. Priceless Irony.

      3. I thought they were celebrating the history of the Democratic Party being the party of the Klan. Perhaps they could have worn blackface to represent the modern party.

        1. Robert, Heather Hiscox and her CBC repoters, this morning, disliked the speech. So did the Democratic party politician she interviewed. I have never seen a Republican interviewed by Ms. Hiscox on CBC News Morning. This is how CBC News treated Trump’s SOTU speech.

    2. Pelosi’s mouth…she apparently needs her dentures adjusted, at best…or her facial tics may be a manifestation of her cognitive dissonance.

  2. Saw about 80% of it – Trump was great !

Very persuasive and reasonable – i think it’ll go over well with independents.

Pelosi at times leafing thru folders like she’s at home doing office work – no class…

  3. It was an evening when people who accomplished the extraordinary paid homage to each other, such as the D-Day vets standing to honour Buzz Aldrin.

  4. Best Trump speech so far, including Cairo. I say that for two reasons: I believe it, and his haters will go crazy; so be it.

Remember, he’s “unpopular” at “only” 48% approval heh Juan. How was Mr Obama doing at this point in his tenure?

    http://www.rasmussenreports.com/public_content/politics/trump_administration/prez_track_feb05

Oh, one slight difference, Obama was on the way down, Trump is on the way up. He hit all the key points.

His go for the throat late term abortion warning spooked me I have to admit, but it solidifies his base.
The Dems will be reduced to explaining and complaining, not a good place to be.
The Dems were polite I thought. So move off that right on to policy. Have a go at them on needed infrastructure.
But do it in the private not the public ticket. Take the risk, reap the rewards. That’s how it’s supposed to work.
But it doesn’t because government is poor (political) at picking winners, but losers are legendary at choosing government.
The herd senses leaner times ahead. Trump is starting to make sense to them.
Trump has these inflation and war progressives pegged big time and I thank him for that.
Trump is riding some big headwinds right now, relative peace, prosperity, the magic wand was there for manufacturing.
Not a word about “battling climate change,” that was his greatest omission.
He kicked butt and took names. His finest moment ever. For God’s sake he had AOC chanting “USA, USA.”
Cue for leftist head explosions everywhere. One hour twenty minutes surprisingly well spent, me into it with low expectations.
BTW, the by far most entertaining part overall was watching Nancy’s facial reactions, she even tried to rebut him to Pence.
A negative? This tour de force may pull the DeMarxists towards the centre and political palatability.

    1. He would have come across as phony if he said anything about climate change. It is a leftist talking point and not a priority for voters. I appreciate his honesty on that one.

        1. Especially since the Grand Canyon is covered in snow. Two Cdn friends spending the winter in Arizona posted photos yesterday.

    2. Let the Dems self destruct on climate change. When Dem, progs, and the media resort to saying global warming is responsible for record cold spells the public starts to smell a dead fish.

    3. Shamrock – This point you make is interesting –
‘His go for the throat late term abortion warning spooked me I have to admit, but it solidifies his base’.
When you consider that in Canada there is no discussion allowed on the current state of lack of law re abortion could it slightly open the door for us to, at least, broach the status quo??

      1. I think this is a debate the left should not enter into. In Canada there is no abortion law to change or be rid of.

Is that a good thing? Perhaps it is better left uncodified and generally not prohibited within the criminal code?

Beef up the ethical accountabilities for doctors. No MD should ever abort a child beyond the first trimester, and only under exceptional circumstances. Let doctors be accountable and leave it at that is my suggestion.

Yes “late term” abortions do happen in absence of a law, but there is no appetite for debate on that issue.

If the leftists want to hold up this feminazi sacred cow of abortion “on demand,” let them. Is their hill to die on if they wish.

  5. A very inspiring and hopeful speech. It is refreshing to hear Trump speak directly to the people vs. media twisting what he says as they so often do. Trump comes across as genuine and down to earth. Obama was always pontificating and talking down to people. I hope Trump won some more supporters tonight. With all the antagonism directed at him from Dems and the media, his job is very, very tough.

  6. Bravo Mr Trump! This was his best yet!
(Posted my comments in Readers Tips, dated February 5th.)

  7. I thought it was a great speech and agree with Bret Hume that it was one of the best ever, and I have watched many.
One thing scared me though and that was the look of outright hatred on the faces of the female socialist bloc and the look of disdain on Bernie Sanders face.

    1. There should be posters made of each individual face of those “ladies” in white, as Trump denigrated the concept of infanticide, and run as ads…

  8. Among the skowlers: Occasional Cortex. She cannot be spontaneous. She (like Trudeau) reports to her handlers. She was brought in to play a role — the pro socialist “regime change” that has been underway since Trump was elected (Or perhaps longer.) I think they are grooming her for a Presidential run at some point. She did not have a good evening tonight. She us a bit like Obama. I don’t think she quite understands the American spirit.

  9. the women in white look like planned parenthood abortion doctors, and were acting accordingly

  10. Poor Van Jones. Remember when he went on CNN a couple of years ago and complimented Pres Trump after his first speech to Congress and got ROASTED? How dare he say anything nice about Trump!! Well Van Jones certainly remembers. This is tonight…

My first take: “A psychotically incoherent speech mixing cookies with dog poop.”

    Classy

Then CNN did a segment on THEIR poll showing 60% approved of the speech. That smell is HAIR ON FIRE.

  11. US will never be a Socialist country.

Trump could have used shorthand and said, we’ll never be like Canada.

    1. Interesting thought. I was wondering what Canadians who watched the speech might think (not us, but all the leftists.) Canadians are nearly universally anti-Trump, and some also anti-Ametican. Certainly the pompous Trudeau is. Trump was very effective tonight. So did any Trump haters in Canada revise their view?

      1. It’s unlikely Trump moved any of his haters. Amongst reasonable people he only needs to move the dial a little for success.

        1. Agree – Trumps base is rock solid at around 44%. He only needs 6% or maybe even 5% depending on electoral college breaks to win. He can get that easy from independents or disaffected dems horrified at the leftwing lurch of their party.

  12. I thought it was a great speech. Trump went to some of his strengths i.e. His remarkable ability to connect with people and convey his respect for the best of human values. I’ve heard first hand accounts of his generosity & compassion. It was nationalistic and told through the lives of ordinary heroes who were there in person.

The women in white were right out of “The Handmaids’ Tale”. Yet another dystopian future written by that national pest Margaret Atwood. Grim faced and reeking of their perfume ‘The stench of Stalin’, they all leapt to their feet grinning and celebrating…themselves when clever Trump appealed to their VANITY. That unglued them a bit to take in the tales of the age of American energy & innovation. He said he would build a wall to protect citizens and legal immigrants.

Trump’s first campaign speech was a measured, firecracker.

  13. America remains one electoral disaster away from becoming a socialist country. You could argue that it already is. Most of its cities and larger population states have left-leaning governments now, with Texas looking like it might fall soon too. The heartland may remain essentially free enterprise and anti-socialist, but it’s the same dynamic we have here, only with some slight differences, and Trump. But if Trump has to spend all of his time and energy fighting off Mueller and the fake conspiracy lawfare (launched behind the scenes by socialists to impede Trump), then he won’t accomplish as much as he hopes. We need to be sober-minded about this, as Canadians we know that socialism is the default politics of the miseducated and misinformed, and add to that the normal politics of most illegal immigrants and voters in the U.S. Hillary may have been socialist lite compared to Bernie “full brew” Soundovski, but they are old folks ready to retire, AOC or the Beto man are being prepared for the next push, and unless old white men can find a way to live forever, it is game over unless we have another massive change of heart as I recall seeing around 1980 (when another lost generation came to its senses, at least in a 60-40 sort of way). It went no further than Mulroney in Canada, but even that begins to look like high ground now.

  14. Sorry Mr. President but America has become a socialist country it is just a matter of degree as to how socialist it really is. When a government has approval over every aspect of your life you live in a socialist country. I have put this challenge out to many people over the years and will do so here. Tell me just what you can do that does not have the thumb print of government on it?

    1. Impossible to argue your point.

In 1971, my freshman year of HS, my History teacher described our “capitalist” country as “creeping socialist”. That everything being done by our government was moving America closer and closer to the political economy of The Soviet Union. He was right. Shortly thereafter, we started “lurching” toward Communism.

  15. The republicans looked polished, professional and patriotic.

The democrats looked sneering, uncomfortable and angry.

    Advantage- Trump.

  16. Those babes in white dresses looked like an out-take from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Especially Occasional Cortex. Also delightful to see the anger on Kamala’s face and the close up of Bernie. Talk about a spiteful old man.

  17. Great speech by Trump!

I watched the speech on FOX Detroit. They panned the chamber but I wish they had left their cameras on the white suited women’s caucus. Sad to farcial to comical as they sat there with their angry faces. Occasionally Pelousi would clap and the caucus would in panic look around to see how they should respond. Cortes in the front row seems to have her gals in tow as she challenges Pelousi for control of the very sad DEM’s. A frank visual of what is important to the USA as seen by Trump versus the Democrats.

After the speech I have become more confident in Trump’s re-election.

  18. Nancy Pelosi is some kind of a mad hatter. After all the ifs, ands or buts, about not having the SOTU Address at all, she said she would go, out of respect of the Office of the US President, not for ‘the’ President.

She sat at her designated place and proceeded to be disrespectful in her demeanor. She pretended to read from several large sheets of paper, shuffling them over and over. (I waited for her to bring out the WaPo) Then there were hand signals, once to quiet down the crowd and another to wave at someone, discreetly, so she thought. Sometimes she regurgitated from her last meal like a cow, and proceeded to nibble, then other times she gnawed at the left side of her lip. Then she made crooked lips signals. She was definitely passing body language insults to the audience. The woman is demented and should also be put into a straight jacket that someone previously mentioned.

The last time we saw this type of distraction was when Rudy Giuliani took his oath of office for mayor of NYC and his young son stole the show with his antics, but the little guy was only 6 or so years old.

Pelosi acted like a 2 year old! She is crazy!

Best of all, I liked how the Vice President ignored her. It was priceless!

    1. Hahaha … you described her body language to a ‘T’. Did you notice the papers (reportedly a copy of PDJT’s speech) she fumbled with all night were made of hard card stock? Her papers stood stiffly in her hands as she fidgeted with them … WTH!? Who prints out such things in card stock? I guess it was focus-tested to “look” more disruptive and disrectful, if her papers were as RIGID as she is. As uptight as she is. And she held them from the bottom edge and thrust them upward behind MY President’s head. What kind of children design such nonsensical displays?

And the way Nancy pretended to “read” these papers was pathetically amusing. Like the dumbass kid in class pretending to read their textbook while staring out the window with a blank expression on their face.

      1. I listened to Trump but watched her the whole time. Kenji, I don’t think I have ever missed a SOTU speech, never has a Speaker of the House ever acted in such a disrespectful way.

Remember a few years ago when someone someone heckled Barry, calling him a liar? I was surprised that Trump wasn’t heckled by the haters. Do you know if there are monetary fines for that now, or have people been warned of immediate expulsion from the House, even jail time, should they act up. If not so, Nancy needs to get a spanking, at the very least.

I usually record S.N.L. but on Saturday I think I will check it out ‘live’…..Lorne Michaels is a Canadian, sometimes a bit of Conservatism spits out from that show. Perhaps they will have a funny skit about zany Pelosi.

        1. Oh yes, I forgot, one more thing…
You mentioned the “hard card stock paper fumbling” by Pelosi…touché! Never been done either.

  19. The thing that struck me most was how Joe Mancin of WV and others stood and clapped, while Bernie, AOC and Kirsten Gillibrand we’re out and out angry and bitter that Trump and America were having their moment.

Makes one wonder, just what exactly does it mean to be a Liberal today?

  20. Judging by the scowls and negativity coming from the media party, both in Canada and the U.S. one can only conclude President Trumps speech was spot on. It was so refreshing to NOT hear the words, Islamophobia, Diversity is our strength, Peoplekind, Irregular immIgrant, LGBTQSTFU, and Feminist, all mashed together with a good dose of tears & uh,uh,umm,er,uh,uhm,er. Oh, and no mention of what kind of socks the President was wearing, was a highlight also.
What a great Country Canada could aspire to with a leader like Donald J Trump at the helm.

    1. Amen, well said.
The Trudeau campaign is going to be sickening.
One has to dread his repetition, a “positive” campaign AGAINST Harper, for freaking sake!

  21. Resting Bitch Faces on parade.

No matter how *cute* your leftist girlfriend looks at 19yo … THIS … is what you have in your future. #walkaway …

  22. The other group wearing their Resting Bitch Faces … were the Military Joint Chiefs of Staff.

They were demonstrably PISSED OFF that My President is taking away their WARS. Imagine that!? Leftist (Obama) Generals and the entire left side of the aisle fighting to keep pointless military incursions across the globe. TDS* has completely scrambled their brains.

    * TDS is really VDS (Voter Derangement Syndrome). The Left HATE Voters. HATE Democracy.

  23. Oh … and judging by his entire, passive, non-response to the SOTU speech … Mitch McConnell was sitting on the WRONG SIDE of the aisle. Mitch should have seen seated next to Occasional Cortex.

  24. We got the State of the Union done. Time to shut the government down again so we can get the wall.

    1. All I can say is that PDJT’s patience far exceeds mine. I pray that MY President gives Congress no more than ONE LAST chance before declaring the emergency and starting construction on the WALL!!

  25. I thought they were dressed in white to pay homage to the roots of the demonrat party, the KKK. By their facial expressions, I believe they were sitting on the top of their pointy hats. If a cbs pole says people liked the speech by 60%, that means it was more like 80%.

  26. Peter Mackay was interviewed by CBC after the SOTU. He was very good. He even managed to get in a dig at Trudeau, something along the lines of Trump supporting his country’s values vs. “admiring their basic dictatorship”. It was a quick one liner and boy were they fast to cut to a break after that. I am pretty sure the hasty cut was deliberate as the comment was not something the CBC would want to follow up on. I hope MacKaycomes back into the game. He is the kind of presence Canada needs at this point. Trudeau is Canada’s Occasional Cortex.
