The left has been led to believe by HRC & the DNC that the election was stolen and violence is an OK way to win it back.

From a historical perspective, the paradigm shift happens after an act of martyrdom.
The assassination of JFK turned the collective memory of his administration away from the unspoken scandal (Marilyn Monroe) and disastrous foreign policy blunders (Bay of Pigs), to the perception of a noble court of equals (New Camelot).

The constitution of a constitutional republic places limits on what the government can legitimately do. Without such limits placing some things out of reach, whatever the majority can be persuaded to vote for or can be made to seem to have voted for is legitimate, i.e. democracy is the mob. The system fails when a significant part opts out, deciding as in the Brooks, Sumner incident cited in the Spectator article, to use violence to force their will upon the other side. It’s what the Americans had to do to found their country in their Revolution and to hold it together in their first Civil War.
