Break Them Up

Into a hundred thousand million pieces.

UPDATE: Ask, and ye shall receive.

The White House has drafted an executive order for President Donald Trump’s signature that would instruct federal antitrust and law enforcement agencies to open investigations into the business practices of Alphabet Inc.’s Google, Facebook Inc. and other social media companies.

    1. Facebook is reportedly planning to announce it next week. Here are the details from Cheddar‘s Alex Heath, who cites unnamed sources:

The main feature will be video chat, and Facebook will use facial recognition to tag users and follow them around the room. (Amazon’s Echo Show and Google-powered smart displays don’t identify users’ faces, though some security cameras do.)
The device will have a privacy shutter to disable the camera tracking, but amazingly, Facebook may have only thought to include this in response to its own recent privacy scandals.
While the device was once rumored to rely a homegrown voice assistant to handle basic commands, Portal may instead lean on Amazon’s Alexa for things like music, recipes, and news briefings.
Portal could come in small and large sizes for $300 and $400, respectively.
We reached out to Facebook for comment and will update if we hear back.

Recent polls have shown that a majority of Americans don’t trust Facebook to protect their personal information. For the most part, this doesn’t appear to have stopped people from using the network, but buying a Facebook-powered, always-on video camera is a much bigger ask than habitually opening an app. We’ll see how the company pitches it to the public soon enough.

  2. If they are so powerful, why don’t they have more success?

Few bought whatever tilt favored Hillary, for example,

    1. That says LESS about their ineffectiveness than the HORROR show that SHE is. It’s awfully hard to sell a crap sandwich by screaming that a steak sandwich is inedible.

      1. trying to sell a crap sandwhich while screaming that a steak one is inedible is what the top people at the most powerful company in the world have chosen to do

        they are not very bright

those people are only succesful and filthy rich because of luck, not because they are smart.

they were at the right place at the right time with someone else’s idea; they were lucky, that is all.

another thing, for them to think Americans elected Trump because Americans are bored ( as they say a few times in the leaked video ) is one of the dumbest thing I have heard

        boredom makes people vote conservative???

those people are really not very bright

they have ZERO clue about anything

  3. I’ve tried others including Bing and Mojeek. Unfortunately they don’t get anywhere near as good a result as Google.

    1. It depends on what you are searching for. If it is something that violates the social justice narrative Google will be vastly inferior, you will get the jigsaw redirect algorithm instead. If it is something obscure and technical it depends. You unfortunately have to use multiple search engines now if you want less biased better more useful returns. Google has the fastest web crawlers but others are always getting better. This is where the government could help a lot by breaking up Googles monopoly on the back-end access.

  4. “Google is the most powerful company in the world – virtually all human information flows through its software”

    Never go full retard.

  5. The Imperious Lords of the Internet with their Authoritarian Agenda that brought you:
The Obama administration , Trudeaus Clusterf*ck Canukistan Wannabes, Notley Newbs, BCs current band of Village Idiots and Soros’s Shadow Regimes MASTER PLAN have finally been outed.
Hope you Enjoy the Decline in China….
Without Obama you don’t get Trump.
Without Trump Admin, Tucker Carlson, Hannity, Ingraham You don’t get Google Antitrust Lawsuits in America. #Winning

  6. Break them up? Over simplifying? Using that rationale we could call for the breakup of most MSM as they almost all have a left wing bias. One of the major achievements of D. Trump’s time in the political sphere is the full exposure of what progressives have been doing for decades to manage ‘group think’ in the USA and Canada.

Break them into what? Google is the #1 distributor of knowledge in the world. The fact that they have a progressive bias should be stamped on all thinking people. That is true of all consumable goods in the market place. If it is not Google trying to influence your decision making it will be a myriad of others. Dare I suggest the Russians and Chinese? Yes they are leftards but they are our leftards, I think.

    1. Google is far more than that. Beyond being a search engine, they also control most internet ad revenue, as well as many other platforms such as youtube. All of these are currently subject to ideological manipulation of their algorithms. They control this market because the data from one branch is used by the others. There are documented cases of google actually trying to dissuade advertisers from placing ads on some youtube channels and directing them to others with a more “favourable” ideology. They also control the distribution of most mobile phone apps, and use their near monopoly on phone operating systems in highly suspect ways to manipulate the market, flow of information, and political outcomes.

Simply breaking them up into the natural separate business entities, along with fines would send a powerful message, and if the advertising arm existed alone, selling ads for various other businesses, then the manipulation of algorithms on the search engine and on youtube would be much more harmful to those businesses as the traffic and ad revenue could flow elsewhere. Google also has many duplicated data centers spread around the world. Imagine if each of those was spun off as a new search engine and they then had to compete. Now imagine if these were all decoupled from the mobile phone OS, and could no longer use the data they secretly track for all the rest of the business entities they operate.

AT&T was broken up for far less. The limited selection of home phones they offered actually.

      1. ” They control this market because the data from one branch is used by the others. ”

Actually they ‘control’ it because they earned it. The Consumer likes it this way.

“Simply breaking them up into the natural separate business entities, along with fines would send a powerful message, ”

Doesn’t matter. No government has any right to meddle in private voluntary affairs. No one owes you whiny babies a neutral platform. Deal with it.

        1. Bitch please, you might have a point (other than on top of your head) had they not been notorious recipients of corporate welfare. Since they are, they will be made to behave. You can bitch about your libertarian fantasies to your inbred hart’s content, none will give a f[_]ck.

  7. Eliminate the GORE Factor….Al Gore pushed through legal immunity for Goggle and was paid millions in Stock…Time to hold ALL internet applications liable for damage…. SUE Them honest….. EASY

    JMHO

    1. Google does not have specific legal immunity. All online services have the same immunity so long as they are not exercising editorial control over content, they are not responsible as publishers for what is said on their platform. Google, Facebook, and Twitter have violated the conditions of their immunity and could now be considered publishers of all content on their sites. Find something defamatory (or advocating violence?) on Youtube, Facebook, or Twitter and let the lawyers have them. I am sure there is a Republican judge somewhere in America that would see it that way.

  8. The Tech Titans have been BEGGING for regulation. Taunting the public and government for regulation. Screaming for Federal restraint.

All the while happily confirming to the Communist Chinese every whim.

Time to slap them silly. We live in the Information Age, and allowing a few H1b Visa holders to squelch the FREE exchange of information in the land of the FREE is … unacceptable.

    1. Nothing says freedom like stealing people’s companies and forcibly breaking them up in a completely unconstitutional manner.

      1. Bitch please, when those “people’s companies” [fitting description, freudian slip?] stop receiving corporate welfare in every shape and form they’ll get to bitch about being owned.

Besides everyone knows that is another one of your smoke screens. FOAD.

  9. ITT, Kate et alia go Full Commie Retard. Protip: Google isn’t a ‘tyranny’; you can refuse to use it anytime.

You people are a joke and its punchline. You’re basically going to be a laughingstock for the next 10-20 years.

    1. Oh look, someone is UnMedicated again. We are actually in favour of free market competition rather than a state sanctioned monopoly, so that is hardly “Full Commie Retard”, but I have a hypothesis that your reasoning abilities and grasp of reality have been impaired due to Progressive poisoning.

ProProtip: You really can’t use the internet without using Google. They are in fact embedded into most websites, all search engines, and control 90% of mobile phones. They are also using this in inappropriate ways to try and manipulate elections far more effectively than any Russian bots.

They have considerable control over communication in the modern public space. One could also choose not to use a telephone at all, but AT&T was broken up, and they didn’t even try to control what you said to people over the phone.

      1. “state sanctioned monopoly”

What this has to do with Google et alia, no idea.

“You really can’t use the internet without using Google. They are in fact embedded into most websites, all search engines, and control 90% of mobile phones. They are also using this in inappropriate ways to try and manipulate elections far more effectively than any Russian bots.”

Tough cheese for you. You don’t have a right to a neutral platform, and are whining that the free markets you give fake love to aren’t delivering what you wanted, so now you want Daddy Trump to make it all go away. Pathetic. I cannot wait for the modern incarnation of the political to DIAF already. It is beyond worthless.

        1. You don’t have a right to a neutral platform

That’s like saying you don’t have a right to the 1st Amendment. That all speech can be forced toward a specific political viewpoint. The First Amendment is neutral. And the monopolistic public Utility disseminating modern speech, Google, is obligated to follow the US First Amendment. Oh. That’s right … Undingdong is a foreign born interloper in Canada … shim has NO CLUE about the US Constitution.

          1. “That’s like saying you don’t have a right to the 1st Amendment. ”

No it isn’t you moron. You have no idea what you’re talking about. Being allowed to say something =/= being provided a platform to say it.

” Google, is obligated to follow the US First Amendment. ”

The 1A has NOTHING TO DO WITH GOOGLE. IT IS A RESTRAINT ON THE USG. THAT IS ALL.

Christ you people are retarded. Truly a warning of the dangers of serial inbreeding.

          2. Sorry … there is effectively ONE platform for the electronic dissemination of information and speech … Google. It is a monopoly of the public square. You, my friend, are the product of your own Uncle’s and Nieces breeding … congenitally defective.

Don’t push me … or I’ll stop being “affable”.

          3. Actually, google was created with a bunch of public money in the form of DARPA grants, it receives regular funding from the government, and relied upon government built infrastructure to be operate in the first place. In accordance with Burton v. Wilmington Parking Authority they would be found to be a state actor for purposes of the Constitution.

It also would be defined as a public accommodation and subject to all relevant federal and state laws.

Also, while the constitution itself applies to state actors, the principle of free speech is actually a principle, something a shitlib like you would know nothing about.

          4. @ Deplorable: Bingo! !00% correct.

UnMedicated knows that. However since Google does the bidding of his political masters he reaches for his usual lexicon of libertarian fantasies to defend them.

    2. It’s you leftist vermin and their deep state comrades who will be extinct in that era. You are just like a Ceasescu loyalist in the late 1980s: Facing the death of your cause, your numbers are dwindling, and you will be forced to scatter the winds when your cause and leaders are finally banished.

      1. LOL the GOP is on the brink of permanent minority status for that entire period. Sorry, pandering to disgruntled white guys with GEDs only gets you so far.

        1. There’s far more of us than there are of you. The French Aristocracy learned that the hard way…

        2. “disgruntled white guys with GEDs”

Here we go again. in the end it all boils down to your racist hatred of white people. Must be hard to go though life constantly being reminded about your inferiority to your betters.

  10. UnMe.

Google is helping China be more efficiently totalitarian. Given their more than adequately documented unapologetic progressive bias, how difficult would it be for a “Progressive” government to use it for its own purpose?

    1. Unme is the type who would have gladly joined the Securitate in the streets during the Romanian Revolution in the late 1980s, even if it meant getting shot down or burnt alive.

Loyal to a dying cause to the bitter end. It would be admirable if it wasn’t so pathetic.

          1. He just suffers from a chemical imbalance (specifically a lead deficiency) and needs to take his medication.

      1. “Unme is the type who would have gladly joined the Securitate…”

They would not take him. There was an IQ test.

    2. Google isn’t being given a choice they are doing what they have to do because of China’s government. Between the NSA and other surveillance programs, you’d think you people could find something better to do than whine about how mean and unfair Google is to you. But you can’t because you’re not very bright.

      1. I’m sure you would love nothing more than to snitch to China’s KGB about us.

        Just remember: Snitches get stitches…

      2. They have a choice. They can not do business in China. I oppose NSA and government surveillance as well. If an entity like Google decides to crack down on certain kinds of thought, you’ll feel it too. Private corporations shouldnt act like arms of the government.

  11. Go to google images, search for the following:
    “white American scientists”
    “white athletes”
And Google will incriminate itself as liars and in desperate need of regulation, right there, before your eyes, in real time. Do it, I dare you.

  12. UnMe,

    You work for google?

why else are you using my exact harsh words about google ( they are tyrants and they are not very bright for failing to elect Hillary despite controling 90 % of the internet ) and throwing them at us?

and I will ask the same thing I asked you weeks ago – and that you ignored of course – what if Trump was rich enough and bought Google, Facebook and twitter and doctored, tricked ( whatever the word is ) those platform to make sure people only see negative things about the left and positive things about the right? and to make sure only conservatives are elected.

would you defend Trump as you defend google and facebook?

can you answer without calling me names or using offensive language?
