Viganò, 77, was the Holy See’s apostolic nuncio, or ambassador, in Washington from 2011 until 2016. He has been a lightning rod within the Vatican who lost a power struggle in Rome under Benedict, emerged as a Francis critic and reportedly ordered the halt of an investigation into alleged sexual relations between an archbishop in Minnesota and seminarians.
Jason Berry, who has written several investigative books about the Vatican, said he believes this is the first time a pope has been accused from within.
“From within the Vatican hierarchy, from within the Roman Curia, I don’t think anyone has ever publicly accused a pope of covering up for a sex abuser,” Berry said. “That’s why this is such a big deal.”

Viganò’s letter says that in 2013, he met Francis and told the new pope face to face that there was “a dossier this thick” about McCarrick. He says he then told Francis about Benedict’s order that McCarrick remove himself from public life.
“He corrupted generations of seminarians and priests and Pope Benedict ordered him to withdraw to a life of prayer and penance,” Viganò says he told Francis. “The Pope did not make the slightest comment about those very grave words of mine and did not show any expression of surprise on his face, as if he had already known the matter for some time, and he immediately changed the subject.”
Barry Coburn, McCarrick’s lawyer, said in a statement: “These are serious allegations. Archbishop McCarrick, like any other person, has a right to due process. He looks forward to invoking that right at the appropriate time.”
The letter also includes an allegation against Wuerl, D.C.’s current archbishop and McCarrick’s successor. He is a close ally of Francis and is already under scrutiny following a grand jury report in Pennsylvania about clerical child sex abuse and an alleged coverup. Wuerl for years led the diocese of Pittsburgh.
Viganò is vague in the allegation against Wuerl. The letter says “obviously” Wuerl knew about Benedict’s restrictions on McCarrick because the then-ambassador, Pietro Sambi, was “responsible, loyal and direct” and must have told him. Viganò says he brought up the subject himself with Wuerl, and he writes that Wuerl “was fully aware of it.”
Wuerl’s spokesman, Ed McFadden, denied the report.

As a sinner and conservative Catholic I pray the Church hierarchy can sift through this and get their act together. If this Pope is removed I pray he is replaced by a much more orthodox Pope. They should all get due process in the investigation of their illegal activities but the guilty ones should have the moral decency to remove themselves while being investigated. Being a sinner, though, I know how hard it is to admit and make amends for my sins.
These allegations contain no surprise and change nothing in terms of my beliefs. Jesus knew Peter was flawed when he decided to build his Church upon him. Trump is a flawed person, perhaps even more flawed than our Pope, and he is achieving good things — even for the Catholics of the US and to some degree people all over the World.
That is the interpretation of the Roman Catholic hierarchy and not that of millions of other biblical scholars. There is no evidence that Peter was even in Rome and much against. And the church history from the beginning would lead anyone to disbelieve that Peter, or Christ, had anything to do with the Church of Rome.
The “Rock” on whom the church is built is plainly set out in the Scriptures:
For other foundation NO ONE can lay, but that which has been laid, which is Christ Jesus. (I Corinthians 3:11)
And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and THAT ROCK WAS CHRIST). (I Corinthians 10:4).

You can go on and on with error after error after error. There are NO millions of scholars which support your claim. The Church fathers also disagree with you. Tell me Gellen, which church is the one true Christian church? How many books are in the one true Bible? Who has final authority to interpret scripture? You? Me? The guy in stall number 666?

The word “church” does not appear in the scriptures. The Roman Catholic church inserted that pagan word as it served their purposes. The purposely mis-translated word comes from the Greek “ekklesia”, which means a gathering.

The Church is defenceless against the homosexual cabal that threatens to tear her apart from within. The homosexual assault on Western Civilization has advanced to the point where 95% of Canadians have now been won over. The rest of the Western world isn’t far behind.
Worst of all are those Christians who approve of sodomy. How is it fostering the well-being of a person afflicted with “same sex attraction” if — instead of helping them to overcome these unnatural and dangerous urges — Christians abet them in their damnation? If Christians truly loved their homosexual neighbours, they’d do anything possible to help them overcome their affliction, just as we’d do whatever we can to help a teenaged girl suffering from anorexia nervosa (it would be horrific to abet her affliction as we do with gays).

Well, one can start with Anglicans and the Uniteds, and surely the list continues with other denominations that APPROVE, if only with a wink, nudge, or overtly. These fit your description. They clearly have moved the gay culture into their orthodoxy.
The only ones that stand out clearly as NOT approving would be the Baptists, Four Square, Pentecostals and Evangelicals, to start.

The Roman Catholic Church has no problem with homosexuality. If they did, they wouldn’t partake of it so liberally themselves. Or with pedophilia.
The great confusion among the masses is caused by Roman Catholicism pretending to be Christian.
I saw a discussion of this back in the late 80’s on TV, and the guy they all wanted to make fun of was stating that the problem is the church was screening candidates for the clergy to eliminate those unsuited to a life that forgoes marriage, children, and romantic relationships with women. They were very good at eliminating people with those inclinations, however they ended up with a process that highly favoured the selection of what he called deviant homosexuals. Discuss whether all homosexuals are deviant at another time, what he meant by deviant homosexuals was child molesting homosexuals.
This is not to claim that all priests are child molesters or gay, but the screening process greatly increased their representation amongst the priesthood in comparison to the general population.
A couple of points here…
1. The vast bulk of the charges of inappropriate sexual advances are NOT for what we would call pedophilia. That crime is typically an assault against preadolescent children. The real story is about pederasty, in which the predator grooms or coerces a younger post-adolescent male to be receptive to sexual advances from an older male. While both behaviors are vile, repulsive, and an affront to the teachings of the Catholic Church, the distinction is important for understanding the scandal currently being unveiled. In essence, it begins from the seduction/coercion of young men by predators within the Church, and continues through the coverup by Church officials that allowed those predators to continue their practices, even to the point of putting them into a sort of exile, to a community where homosexual practices were both common and not punished.
2. National Catholic Reporter has an editorial that puts a different spin on this entire scandal. It basically accuses Vigano of badly twisting a lot of facts in his effort to damage Pope Francis. I don’t know which to believe at this point, and the truth may cut across both sides of this apparent battle for power within the hierarchy of the Church.

The facts show otherwise. A large percentage of Catholic clergy are homosexual, and a huuuuuge percentage are pedophiles. They account for a far greater percentage of pedophiles than any other profession.

I spent five years as a d.r. in London. The money isn’t remarkable, but I made a living and rode a quarter of a million miles.
As I said in another thread, when homosexuality was illegal and unacceptable, the celibate and male-only priesthood was a hiding place for homosexual males, whether they truly believed in Christ or not, whether they wanted to act on their homosexual desires or not.

All the RC priests I have had the honour to work with were decent, hard-working men who took their vows seriously and who sought to feed the flock, not prey upon it. Did hear of one priest in the diocese who was accused of targeting young males; friend who had worked in a parish where he was priest was shocked; teacher I knew was not – her brother had been at the RC boys’ school when this particular priest was a teacher there and the boys all knew that this particular teacher was not a man a wise student would approach solo, so to speak.
That being said, I do remember there were comments going around about one particular male teacher in our thoroughly secular high school. We may well have done the man a disservice; we may have been passing along warnings that we didn’t totally understand. But he wasn’t RC.
Would you know a pedophile priest if you came across one? Most Catholics are shocked when one of their priests is found to have been a pedophile. Many have raped hundreds and even thousands of children over their lifetimes. When eventually allowed by the authorities to be charged with a minor offense (thereby keeping the enormity of his crimes hidden), most Catholics will support the priest and refuse to believe the charges. They will instead attack the actual victim.
Roman Catholic priests have overwhelming numbers of pedophiles within their numbers. This is not new. This is how they’ve always been since Babylon. All that’s new is them pretending to be Christian so that fools invite them into their communities and have them raise their children.
