Brad Wall Accuses Trudeau of Playing Favourites With Quebec Over Western Canada

“There is more Western Alienation right now in Alberta and Saskatchewan,” says Brad Wall, “than I have ever seen.”

Wall, the former Premier of Saskatchewan, is taking time out of his private life to discuss Justin Trudeau’s equalization move on my radio show. It’s a Friday night and like most Canadians, Wall would prefer to be kicking back. Instead he is fired up.

    1. Exactly. PM Butt Puppet told us even before his coronation to Liberal leadership that Quebec was the best (paraphrased).

    2. He’s on record saying that the only legitimate Prime Minsters come out of Quebec.

  1. I hope Moe and Jason do legit threaten separation, it will scare Ontario, and who gives a flying f*ck about Quebec. They may actually turn on Trudeau anyway seeing the free lunch going away

  2. “More Western alienation?” More unemployment, more houses for sale, more rigs leaving for the USA, …

  3. Some contributors to SDA, myself included, stated that Quebec’s attitude towards the rest of Canada is revenge for the Plains of Abraham.

I’m beginning to think that Quebec’s attitude towards the west is because of Rupert’s Land. Maybe Quebec feels betrayed that Radisson and de Groseilliers took up with the English after being given a raw deal by French government. All the territory that was granted to the Hudson’s Bay Company could have, instead, become part of New France.

So, I guess, western Canadians are seen as squatters on Quebec land and have to be treated accordingly.

      1. No, NME, it’s not stupidity. It’s about the next election. Trudeau needs nearly all those Quebec and Ontario seats to win. He’s a self-serving liar, but his party isn’t stupid about what they need to do. Make no mistake, the next election will be fought and won or lost in Ontario. After this, if there’s a single Liberal seat left in Alberta or Sask, then Westerners are truly stupid.

No, BA, it’s not about revenge. It’s about self interest. As long as Canadian voters insist on putting Quebec in the driver’s seat Quebec will continue to exert this kind of influence.

        1. Radisson and de Groseilliers were businessmen and they wanted to make a profit. Due to what happened to them in New France, they went to the English to see if they could get a better deal.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there were some in New France who thought that the two of them were disloyal, probably thinking that the colony was where they got their start.

Nowadays, I’m sure that doing something similar would end in litigation.

        2. Exactly, and well said. It is all about garnering votes. He couldn’t give a rip about SK and AB. That has been very obvious. He just keeps sending Squealer out here to tell us how great PM Butts is.

        3. cgh, I totally agree with you, and you just demonstrated that it is liberal stupidity. Self serving is not what they aut to be doing. The cons aren’t much better . Politicians have largely lost their way as to what their actual “job” is. Eventually the people will turn on these fools and Kim Campbell them. Ford may be the first step in that direction.

          1. No, it’s not stupidity, NME. Do I have to remind you of George Orwell?
“The Object of Power is Power.”

What the Liberals are doing is pursuit of power. That comes first above all else. Dislike the cynicism if you will, but that’s the world we live in. Idealism and altruism always come second.

    1. “Because of Rupert’s Land maybe Quebec feels betrayed…”

They basically were ignored by their Motherland, FRANCE , pretty well, most often. So, they pass on the same to others.

When Napoleon Bonaparte made a deal with the Americans in the Louisanna Purchase and Sale Agreement, the Quebeckers probably felt a slap in the face. They must have felt that they should have received something in the way of a cash bonus. At the very least a “FIRST REFUSAL OPTION TO PURCHASE”, not that they had the money to buy, half of America.

Just look at the new love-fest between Trudeau and Macron today. They established a new Committee between the 2 countries during the G-7, to the exclusion of all ” La FRANCOPHONIE” countries of the world.

My point is that they can’t do anything right, they are so full of themselves.

Furthermore to add to my point, even England couldn’t get things quite correct, ie: case in point, the Rupert’s Land Map. IMHO “Upper” should’ve been labeled “Lower” and “Lower” should’ve been labeled “Upper!” Does anyone agree?

      1. Upper Canada and Lower Canada as shown on the Rupert’s Land map are correct. “Upper” and “Lower” refer to their position UPstream and DOWNstream on the St. Lawrence River drainage basin. It is not based on latitude.

        1. Canuck66:
Thanks I knew that for my matrix back in high school, for Canadian History, so that’s why I included the IMHO. I still think they’re incorrect. But whatever eh.

Used to take a short walk to the Mighty Saint Lawrence River and even went White Water Rafting @ the Lachine Rapids. It was the thrill of a lifetime! ( there’s a guided- rental outfit there, just waiting to take your cash)

BTW: care to explain your name Canuck66? I think you once said you lived in N.B., did you sneak your first beer back in 1966? Ha, just kidding! The N.B. fellas are real gentlemen.

      2. Maceroonies (macron) “wife” is a red flag as to a character flaw. I know that some will bristle at that statement, but when a man marries a woman much older than himself, it usually points to a problem. And yup, my X is older than me, but not quit as much as Macerooni’s. Both Macron and the Turd are immature for their age, and not leadership material. They could fvck up the lord’s prayer, even if jezus was saying it for them!!

    2. The hanging of Riel (1885) was a real turning point between the fwench and English. It was carried out in a new country by MacDonald and Quebeckers have never forgiven conservatives.
Certainly the Plains of Abraham is a historical grievance as well as others pointed out here but Riel sits in the modern conscience. Ultimately all of it is crap but in the myths of a tribe like the fwench these things still resonate.

      1. Not all of Alberta and not all of Saskatchewan were purchased by the U.S., just a tiny portion in the south, in each, depending on how the rivers flowed.

    3. Yes, but Quebec gained a lot of it back when it was granted jurisdiction over what were formerly territory lands in the northeast along James Bay and up to the coastline. In the 1950s, those lands were largely English-speaking, and the missionaries there were Anglican, doing what they could to help the locals adapt to the changing world. Then the lands were handed over to Quebec, and the locals had to learn French or else.

Should Quebec decide to leave Canada, it should go back with only the land it brought into confederation: the land south of the St Lawrence but only a thin area north of it. That would knock out all the Ungava peninsula as well as – most likely – a lot of the land they’ve flooded for their hydro projects.

  4. There is something about PMs named “Trudeau” that destroys functioning western province economies and spawns separation movements.

  5. “This country it belongs to us”( franco Queerbekers) said trust fund jagoff and part time drama teacher Justard (fake eyebrows) Turdo… yes Justard, it certainly does, just as daddy Peeair the anti English bigot and mentally disturbed communist revolutionary intended. What did crazy Peeair call his revolutionary vandalism? Oh yeah, the “just society”, hilarious.

  6. I would not only agree with western separation, I would support and cheer it. Then if I can ever afford to retire, I can leave Ottawa and take my little bit of wealth . . . westward to freedom.

    1. Best put your wealth in something other than Canadian dollars, stocks, and bonds, then. Because if Canada flies apart, those things will drop precipitously in value, at the very least in the 5 years or so on either side of the event.

As it turns out, Canadian deconfederation may be advantageous to Quebec and Ontario in the long term, because after the tumult of the event their debt will have been reduced by 50%-90% due to the massive drop in the Canadian dollar relative to the value of their assets. It’s one way to inflate away the value of their debt.

Of course, the other end of the equation is that the people who live there will lose most of their C$ wealth. But those governments will be fine with it because their debt (“anti-wealth”) is mostly gone, too.

      1. The country will break up because the social safety net that Canadian governments have been ‘charging to their credit cards’ will collapse. The West has been screwed for over 150 years, so what? We gave it a shot with Reform but that was subverted when our MP’s went to Ottawa.

  7. I can’t remember a time when Canada was so fractured and polarized . I can understand the frustration true Canadians are feeling trying to deal with the type of BS coming out of the laurentian elites . We saw this back in the seventies which gave birth to the Reform movement but at the end of the day it was all for naught . 2019 can’t come soon enough ……

    1. It’s been there a long time. Grew up in SE BC amongst a lot of WW II vets (we were in veterans’ housing), and the comment I heard very early on was that “Canada ends at the Rockies, and BC ends at Hope”. Needless to say, we lived in between the two areas. Have since realized that Canada ends at the lakehead, while BC might extend eastward to Kelowna. But still remember that early lesson – and this from men who had fought for our country.

  8. A win in this issue won’t be negotiated, like all the very best wins, it will be won.

If the west is tired of promoting the intergenerational welfare system, there’s only one way to take this… The SCOC has accepted this as a part of the Canadian Constitution, and they won’t let it go.

    50% + 1

  9. Quebec is like a cancer for Western Canada. It is aggressive in its goal to destroy us by blocking our pipelines while sucking away our financial life force.
As a person of French heritage from Quebec, 8th generation Canadian born in Saskatchewan I speak from a position of experience. Experience of dealing with relatives with mindset of entitlement and resentment towards those in the West.
Canada as a united country is lost because of Quebec and sleazy and incompetent leaders like Trudeau.
The sooner Western Canada realizes this and moves on the better off we all will be.
    Vive la SASKBERTA

  10. How does it work in Canada?

Can a Provincial Governor like Brad Wall run for the leadership of the Conservative Party for 2019 and win? Or are your government and party organizations so sclerotic and hidebound that someone who is not already part of the Canadian Parliament club ever win and shake things up?

We Americans had Donald Trump (who I first thought was a Democrat), start running 20 months before the election. He was hated by the Democrats, MSM, and most Republicans, but he won anyway. No one “in politics” liked him, just 65 million voters. Most importantly, his shaking up the permanent bureaucracy is working by gutting regulations and taxes. He doesn’t do things the same old way like the politicians in both parties. Employment, productivity are up; peace is coming to Korea; and trade barriers are going to be gutted over the next 24 months. Could Canada ever have this happen? Or is your system so tradition bound and anti-outsider that reform is almost impossible?

Don’t like my Trump comparison? Bernie, the Independent Socialist almost won the 2016 Democrat Party Presidential nomination. He didn’t lose, cheating by Hillary and the DNC beat him. Barack Obama, Jimmy Carter, and especially Ronald Reagan were just as outsider as Trump, and won it all too. You can compare Brad Wall’s position to Carter and Reagan before they won.

Could someone like Brad Wall or Steve Ford become Prime Minister in your next election, or are you stuck with whoever your existing Parliament members choose to lead the country in 2019?

    1. “Could someone like Brad Wall or Steve Ford become Prime Minister in your next election…” Only if there seemed to be a lot of dissatisfaction with the current Conservative leader Andrew Scheer and the party leadership decided to have a leadership vote at the next party convention. Also, if for some reason Scheer felt he had lost the support of the party and requested a leadership vote or also, if Andrew Scheer became too ill to carry on or died.

Anyone correct me where I am wrong.

  11. Canada is different that the US in that our PM doesn’t RUN for that office like the President does.Instead the party that wins the most seats then chooses the PM, although the party chooses its leader before the election. So the leader of the party that gets the most seats becomes the PM.

  12. Well said Brad. After stepping down I hoped you wouldn’t just disappear and it sounds like you’re not. A number of you are right the west has not felt this alienated for a very long time and a westerner with some vision and credibility could form a Separation Party tomorrow and by the end of the week have thousands of members. Why is “the dear leader doing this”, to stay in power, its as simple as that. Wake up Ontario you had the courage to dump one dictator do you have the courage to dump another one in the next federal election

  13. lance, you are literally a piece of shit. I did this captcha BS over 20 times maybe even 30 and then my comment was deleted after all of the AGRO.
I wish I could meet you face to face.

  14. I have often thought that the simplest solution to the equalization programme would be for the Federal government to just cancel it forthwith and reduce all Canadian personal and corporate taxes accordingly to reflect its removal as a budgetary expenditure.

Sigh. We can all dream I suppose…

  15. All this talk of the Plains of Abraham. The guy who owned those plains was Scottish.

    1. Only the most frenetic and fanatical separatists in Québec still obsess endlessly over the Plains of Abraham.

As with most similar historical events which end up as sectarian grudges (Kosovo Polje, Culloden, the Battle of the Boyne, etc., etc.), history is always reversed to suit the narrative.

When Wolfe faced off with Montcalm, there was no “Canada” or “Québec” as we know them. These are the outcomes of that history: we can have no idea how things might have turned out for New France had the British attack failed because, well, it didn’t fail.

And the British were so oppressive to their new French-speaking subjects that they granted them the continued use of their religion,* laws and language.

      * Resulting in the irony that the Canadiens enjoyed the freedom to practise the Catholic faith, a freedom then heavily circumscribed in the neighbouring Thirteen Colonies and indeed, Britain itself.

      1. I admit, I had to Google “circumscribed”. But perhaps the irony continues in the form of transfer payments in which Newfoundland* receives the least (i.e. nothing) and Quebec** receives the most.

        * obviously Canada’s richest province
        ** arguably Canada’s poorest province

  16. It is past time for talking. It is now time to separate, Mr. Wall, will you please lead the movement.

  17. Anyone that thinks anything is going to change as long as Alberta and Saskatchewan are in Canada is dreaming.

There are no good reasons for Sask and AB to stay in confederation. They take from us when the times are good, and then when the times are bad they take from us. It’s cost us billions upon billions of dollars with nothing in return. If we choose to stay in Canada we deserve every indignity foisted upon us by the east.
