The Safest Country for European Jews?

Last Friday evening I put on a kippah and walked half an hour across Budapest to the Keren Or synagogue maintained by the Budapest Chabad. After violent attacks on Jews in German streets, the leaders of Germany’s Jewish community warned Jews last month not to wear a kippah or any other visible sign of Jewish identification in public. The French community issued such warnings years ago. Belgian TV could not find a single Jew in Brussels willing to wear a kippah in public. I walked across Budapest four times (for Friday evening and Saturday daytime services), and no-one looked at my kippah twice. At services I met Hasidim who had walked to synagogue with kaftan and shtreimel, the traditional round fur hat. Whatever residual anti-Semitism remains among Hungarians, it doesn’t interfere with the open embrace of Jewish life. There are no risks to Jews because there are very few Muslim migrants.

None of this is serious evidence supporting the contention that Jews are safer in Hungary because no Muslims. Pretty sure the minor problems caused by migrants are outweighed by the fact that Orban is an illiberal despot. His partner in crime until recently was Jobbik, an anti-semitic party until recently.

You can keep claiming that Europe is being destroyed by immigration all you want, it’s not happening and it’s never going to. It will always be your fantasy.

    1. hey A$$hole, you ever been over there (Europe), or are you like most uninformed lefties, too stupid to understand you haven’t a klue what you are verbally wanking off about. FYI; I am from Europe and my relatives are still there, and I’v been over once or twice. Yes, immigrants are a huge problem, socially and statistically.

      1. No, they’re not. There are no ‘no go zones’. There’s been at most a modest increase in crime after the refugee surge (it’s still lower in Germany than in America). And yes I’ve been to Europe, which matters as much as you and your relatives ‘lived experience’: 0.

        1. I read today that Merkle has admitted there are no goes in Germany, and lots in France.

          1. As well as in the Netherlands, and Sweden, and who knows in how many other western European countries. UnMehasn’t a clue about what is really happening. Maybe he should talk to the lady guide we had in Oslo.

        2. You’re the idiot.
When the government has zero political will to enforce the law amongst immigrant communities, the enclaves where they live can very easily become defacto “no go zones”, which many of them have, ESPECIALLY for other citizens.

        3. No No-Go zones? Tell that to all the victims of the Telford (MUSLIM) rapists. If the police don’t/won’t follow up, it’s a No-Go zone. Geez, it’s hard to believe anyone could be so fcuking stupid.

    2. “…You can keep claiming that Europe is being destroyed by immigration all you want, it’s not happening and it’s never going to. It will always be your fantasy. …”

You can keep claiming that all you want, but we know you are wrong. We aren’t going to think you are intelligent or that you know what you are talking about. It will always be your fantasy.

  3. In 2013 we walked by the Keren Or synagogue and down a the side street to look into the graveyard behind the synagogue. The other side of the synagogue had a public market are and we did see a male and female police foot patrol under a shade tree. It was 42 degrees that day.

  4. The safest country for European Jews is Israel. Yeah, you should know the IDF can’t be counted on to protect you if you live in Europe.

  5. Jewish people vote socialist just as much as anyone else. So no sympathy. So much for the mythical higher average IQ.

  6. Roy Moore, former Alabama chief justice, … claimed that parts of Indiana are subject to “Sharia law.” When pressed on where, Moore said, “Well, there’s Sharia law, as I understand it, in Illinois, Indiana — up there. I don’t know.”
When Stein asked again for more information, Moore said that he had been told some communities were under Sharia law. “Well, let me just put it this way — if they are, they are; if they’re not, they’re not,” Moore said. “That doesn’t matter.”

  7. “Hungary’s liberal Jewish community opposes Orban and supports the admission of Muslim migrants, who elsewhere in Europe are the sole source of violent attacks on Jews. The split in Hungary’s Jewish community in some ways mirrors the U.S., where liberal Jews vote Democratic while most observant Jews back Donald Trump. But as matters stand, Hungary is the safest European country for Jews, with no anti-Semitic violence of any kind in recent years.

    Plain spoken enough.
