  1. How will they defend $548 coffee? Easily, in the Marxist Animal Farm world some are more equal than others.

  2. How about only a per diem that isn’t stupid low. And maybe the only provided free beverage on government flights is low bidder bottled water.

    1. The current Fed Gov per diem and incidental rate is $98.45 for Canada and US travel, varied for international based upon destination. Private industry is around $50-60. I know, I’ve used both over the last 5 years.

Now these rates are for the peons, not management.

I’ve also run large fundraisers for charities and other events, and I’ve never spent anything like that for “coffee and” for a single day event, especially for that low a number of people.

Really have to wonder wonder what was in the coffee.

      1. “The current Fed Gov per diem and incidental rate is $98.45 for Canada”

These being the same people who allow $51.00/2 = $25.50 to the great unwashed who claim expenses on the simplified basis.

  3. One idea would be to absolutely ban any public servant from providing any meal, beverage or whatever to another public servant. Let the recipient buy his own and justify the claim to his own chain of command, on his own claim. Then limit ALL public servants (Employed or elected) to a certain, reasonable daily expense when away from their regular place of work. Also a no brainer would be ‘no free booze on government aircraft!’

Never happen of course, but I can dream of responsible government can’t I?
    Cheers, Eric

  4. What am I misunderstanding here. Please tell me.

    Dates: 01 – 12 (12 days?)
    6 people

    $548 divided by 12 = $45.60 per day

$45.60 divided by 6 = $7.60 per person per day

If 2 cups per person per day then $3.80……. service catered and set up in the conference room, real glassware (no paper cups).

So what am I not understanding??

    1. 01-12 would be January 12th, not twelve days. This was a single day.

Would be interesting to know who the receipt was from. Little Guys Coffee of Shawinigan? Sophie’s Catering?

      1. Yes, one day, not 12. Thanks for setting me straight. I got very curious…. for no apparent reason really ….. about what this meeting was about and who attended. A NAFTA strategy meeting apparently. “Cabinet Retreat” is what some of the press called it.

    2. It wasn’t for 12 days, it was one day, either January 12 or December 1, depending on how the date is written numerically. (Some people use dashes rather than slashes to separate day and month.)

  5. From the article:

“What kind of coffee were they drinking? Were the pastries cut up and spoon fed to them by an army of angels?”

I’m sure the Liberals would have found a similar arrangement to waste money.

    1. Perhaps Kopi Luwak coffee, made from beans eaten by palm civets, excreted in their faeces and then turned into coffee. $35-$100 a cup in a coffee shop. http://www.most-expensive.coffee

What a wonderful opportunity for public servants to heroically sample an exclusive beverage on the taxpayer’s tab so the taxpayer doesn’t have to. You are unlikely to get that instant coffee in sachets on Parliament Hill.

  6. Did they perhaps fly in the guy who does JT’s meal delivery service between 24 Sussex and his actual residence?

  7. You do know, the closest Timm’s is 3 blocks away!!!! The transit/mileage considerations for 3 blocks is very costly. It could be $7 by cab. Perhaps they ordered it directly from Ottawa, because London coffee is crap.

  8. Government employee? No salary.
    Wear government uniforms.
    Eat at government cafeteria.
    Sleep in government housing.
    Travel on government bus.
If government is only part time, private sector pays you on your side gig.
    Simple.

  9. Oh, and to answer your question; they will not need to defend it.
CBC will never bring it up.
CTV will never bring it up.
Toronto Star will never bring them up.

    1. Thank you Kevin…that was my first thought too.
It was media that focused on the orange juice.
They ,of course, did that for the Libs.

      1. Kevin is right: the media cartel are paid and bought for. No chance the Liberals will be held accountable.

    2. Kevin is correct… the Media will conveniently not care… the Media was “outraged” over Bev Oda’s orange juice, “outraged” I tell ya… Andrew Coyne who now squats to pee for the LIbranos over at the National Post wrote how our very democracy was at risk because Bev Oda ordered an orange juice… Will Peeair loving Andy care about Justard’s care free waste of tax money living like the King of New France? Does Andy or anyone else in the corrupt Media cartel believe Justards coffee expenses are also a threat to our very democracy? I’ll give you three guesses to how much Squatting Andy and the rest of the lazy ass Liberal Party Media cartel care about Justard’s reckless spending, and as my Dad use to say, the first two guesses don’t count.

  10. Why does no one ever call into question the kabuki theatre of robbing Peter (private sector), paying Paul (government), Paul gives some back to Paul in “taxes”?

  11. Could someone please explain to me why there isn’t a pitch fork and torches uprising?

    1. It is called enslaved press; we have a state broadcaster.

Any country, with a state broadcaster, is a tyranny. Straight up.

  12. Meh, It’s not that much really. I always have a hooker with my coffee

  13. It’d be a perfectly acceptable question to bring up in the House to ask the Honorable Member, “why is the allowed expense for an MP different from regular Canadians as given on the annual tax form”?

If we’re not allowed to expense this at the rate shown by Brian Lilly, then neither should those tasked with working for the gov’t. Regardless of if those in gov’t are management or regular Joes.

I don’t expect any response from the PM. My expectations of him approach zero.
I don’t expect any of my relatives will be upset about this, because 1. They’ll never hear about it. 2. They “just know” that in the private sector, $500. coffee is the normal.

  14. And of course, Andrew Scheer will jump right on that one too. Right? Andrew? Helllllooooo? Anyone seen the supposed leader? Jeebus, we’re screwed.

  15. Anyone else get the feeling the Conservative Party is being driven by a Tesla autopilot?

  16. Yup, Indiana Jane – wait till Andrew “Paris” Scheer hears about this!

I mean he’s just gonna nut n gut those Liberal hypocrites and the CBC who crawled all over Princess Oda for her glass of juice.

Man oh man…there’s gonna be blood on the walls!

    Any day now…..

    Comin’ soon…

    Maybe…

    Not.

  17. It’s probably because they ordered “Sex in a Pan” with their coffee…

    Prosit!

    1. That is a really tasty dessert, for real, for those that think you’re just being funny. Yo are funny tho! Please post the recipe, I lost my copy!

  18. We need to keep in mind that the elites have nothing in common with we the deplorable. They cannot understand our lives, and so cannot understand our outrage. What they think they know of us is only through the filters of the sycophants who supply them talking points and write their speeches. Sort of like when Kerry’s wife didn’t know what the stuff was on a Wendy’s menu.

Besides showing up to riot, those who can need to observe, spy, harass and expose these clowns even after they leave public life. They must have no rest in retirement, where they can continue to destroy the lives of the normal people. Their greatest fear is an informed deplorable.

    1. There is no such thing as an ‘informed deplorable’. They are peons who try to compensate for what they lack with tribalism. Right-wing SJWs essentially

      1. FFS give your propaganda a rest UnMe. You assume we are all uninformed just because we don’t go along with your tribal agenda.

My autocorrect came up with an interesting word that describes you perfectly. Douchetroll.

        1. No I think you are uninformed because you are. You people routinely say dumb things, and then go on to project your tribalism onto me, like you just did.

          1. Sorry, we have lots of disagreements on our side, but we aren’t required to degenerate into ideological purity spirals like your side.

Is your handle short for UnMedicated?

  19. The Liberal Party are not Climate Change deniers, so I have no problem with this expense. A small tax on the greedy rich would offset this cost.

  20. It seems liberal voters have no problem displaying their mental issues in full view with liberal posters on their front lawns. I find it hard to understand how they can forget being raped and sodomized by the liberal party over the last 15 years.

  21. A little off topic but it is part of the Liberal largesse. It was announced today that Canada has donated $50,000.00, as a wedding present to Harry and Meaghan, to a charity. Isn’t that something precious. The Liberals on behalf of the people of Canada donating a paltry $50,000.00. Can somebody tell me what the Liberals on behalf of the Canadian taxpayer donated to the Agha Khan foundation, or how about the Clinton Foundation, not to mention the UN, etc., etc., etc., but to a foundation supported by the Royals, $50,000.00. This is a bigger slap in the face than the famous pirouette was. Maybe it was because Li’l Tater Head and Sophie were overlooked and the young Mulroneys weren’t.

    1. If I may …know this is off topic too, but the British Royals never invite politicians to their weddings, as per tradition, because they are apolitical. The fact that Ben Mulroney & family attended is due to the fact that they are the bride’s friends. As for the gifts, good point, what is protocol? Monetary gifts to charity, never heard about that one, perhaps it is a new idea. There surely are experts who may weigh in.

  22. “how will they defend $548 coffee?”

I have no idea. Probably because I missed the part where they had to defend giving $10 Million to the terrorist Omar Khadr.
    I assume they have a similar strategy./

  23. I get the feeling our PM Sock Puppet, tater tot doesn’t really like Canadians as he WANTS TO INFILTRATE CANADA WITH non refugees and illegal immigrants coming from safe countries. Then PM Sock Puppet wants to invite TERRORIST TO LIVE AMONGST US!! VOTE OUT PM SOCK PUPPET AND HIS TRIBE IN 2019!!!! VOTE OUT THE LIE BRALS IN 2019!!

  24. That money was not spent on coffee.

My guess was that it was spent on inhalants and a male prostitute for the Shiny Pony and five fellow perverts.

  25. Google ”Bev Oda, $16 orange juice” and every major Fake News Network in Canada had a story on it within hours.

Google ”Liberals, $548 coffee” and see how many news sites are featuring this,” The only one that comes up is Brian Lilley’s tweets.

    Why isn`t this on CBC??

    1. Because the CBC is government funded, same people who paid for the coffee, would be a conflict of interest………..
