  1. Retired civil servant = reeking of entitlement. He probably thinks a gold standard of service means he gets to take a few ounces of gold home too.

  2. Another Quebecer. Like the freak who sued for getting a Sprite when asking for a 7-Up. Time for courts to come down HARD on guys like this.

  3. Is there something about metaphors that Quebecers don’t get?
Or can I sue Canada Dry because they advertise themselves as “The Champagne of Ginger Ales”?

  4. Damn, you beat me to it.
“The man was part of an arranged marriage in Gaza. His wife, a Palestinian who grew up in Kuwait, lived in Ottawa and the family settled in this city.”
Absolutely did NOT see that one coming…

  5. He might be, a Canadien, that is. The Brits brought over many poor or orphaned Irish and Scots lads to breed with the Quebecoise for the purpose of assimilation. Didn’t work too well. All they got were more Quebecois whose names were similar to “Macduff”.
As part of Canada 125, my daughter got the chance to visit Quebec City and board with a local family for a few days. Their daughter spent a few days with us in return. Their name was Hardy or something very similar. Niether the daughter nor her parents spoke a word of English. They were quite surprised that my daughter was able to converse with them in her high school French.
An aside: I helped to chaperone a trip to Banff. Aside from speaking only French and being awestruck at our mountains, the Quebec kids dressed and acted just like our redneck kids. That was the first time I discovered that if you can get past the political a$$holes, regular Quebeckers are just like us.

  6. Why hasnt anyone sued Canada Dry for this reason.
The drink is wet, isn’t it supposed it be dry?
Sue Mountain Dew…….whaddaya mean its not Dew?
Sue McDonalds over their Filet O Fish. Its not a FILET, FFS.
Sue A&W over the Teen Burger……is it made of or for teens?
The mind boggles with the endless possibilities

  7. Sunwing is a budget airline and Cuba is a low-cost vacation destination – in other words, the kind of travel that appeals to cheapskates like this retired civil servant. So in an apparent effort to make the skinflints feel more special, Sunwing advertises ‘champagne’ service on the premise that everyone knows that the word is synonymous with something that is the best in its category. Only a dummy would take it literally and expect to be served a glass of Dom Perignon or Veuve Cliquot after paying a rock-bottom price.

  8. This deserves its own post under the More Pavilions at Volkfest headline.
I thought that ignorance of the law is not a defence to a crime – whether you were born here or recently arrived here). This reminds me of the Syrian refugee who beat his wife so badly that she ended up in hospital and told the judge that he had no idea that it was illegal to beat your wife in Canada, since immigration officials never told him.

  9. I hope he loses all of his friends. This suit is ridiculous, and if an airline has to absorb cost for a frivolous suit like this, costs will go up for the rest of us.

  10. Why does this require print space never mind court time. A Quebec civil servant who is suing an airline over a glass of wine on a trip to Cuba, this is just another prime example, (as if we needed any more), of the French-Canadians inherent inbred psychological feeling of superiority.

  11. “…Daniel Macduff, a retired civil servant…”
..and he is flying on Sunwing…?
Oh man….and this Entitled sack of Quebecois Flatulence, flying on a shitty airline using near retired 737’s, didn’t get hsi “champagne” Really..?? aw gee.. LMAO.
WTF did he expect..? A380 First Class Service.?
good luck on your lawsuit buddy…you are a MORON.

  12. Exactly! The entire sordid episode can be understood in the ONE sentence …
Court documents claim Daniel Macduff, a retired civil servant from the Quebec City area, booked a Sunwing Airlines flight to Cuba last November that advertised a “champagne service.”
Everything you need to know is contained in that one sentence … retired civil “servant” … Cuba … champagne …
BTW … “Class Action” Lawsuit is the equivalent LIE to “Nonprofit” … misapplied labels intended to hide leftist larceny.

  13. That incident happened in Fredericton NB. And the NB government is still whining that they are not getting their fair share of these ‘New Canadians’. And they are also whining they lose many when they pack up and leave for Toronto after sucking at the NB public teat for a while. FFS!!

  14. I was joeking, every thing about this story is bullshit. I agree with those who point to the “retired civil servant” being the answer to WTF. I had a customer who was too old to perform certain tasks, so I was hired to do them, he was a “retired civil servant”, and 3 years younger than me.

  15. Like, who does this guy think he is? Senator Nancy Ruth?
And speaking of Conservative Senator Ms Nancy Ruth, in her own words:
“I think Senate business is very broad. I’m a feminist activist so my angle on Canadian life is to look at gender-based analysis on policy and things like that. I don’t think the auditor general particularly considers that Senate business.”
