  1. The mayor and council in our small town made the same impotent gesture as reported in the local paper. However the comments on the article were about 2:1 against the action. Comments included that it was inappropriate grandstanding and pandering to a minority identified solely by it’s sexual proclivities, and that there were many other minorities equally or more deserving of such special recognition. This reaction in a community with rather progressive laws and a high tolerance of LGBTs, should give the mayor and council something to think about. People have had enough with the rainbow BS.

  2. “While the rioters have no clear demands…”
I heard that before. Don’t know who the good guys are in Ukraine, but it would have been fun to throw stun grenades in the Occutard camps.

  3. When the Russians want something done, they send the Spetsnaz. When we want something done we send richard simmons or enza the super model. Their clarity is more discerning.

  4. Just more leftard symbolism, hopey changey stuff.
Putin would just as soon wipe his butt with the rainbow flag, that’s about the only value in that rag.

  5. Tell me- where are these “brave” activist-athletes who will rake Putin over the coals AFTER the Olympics when they are safely in their respective countries?
As usual, bluster and nothing more.

  6. What these politically correct fairy warriors seem to forget is that Putin has the support of the vast majority of Russians in his anti gay stand. The tip of the tail does not wag the dog like it does in the west. More power to them for having a vision of the future that does not include gay pride parades. Men are men and women are women. If in doubt look in the mirror. If the fantasies are in favor of the same gender then just shut up about it and don’t flaunt it. Certainly nothing there to be proud of or deserving of a parade. The Russians lack of political correctness is quite refreshing.

  7. Bartinsky, that was a good one, as was Rob H’s original comment. What the h…, now war and peace are determined by bearded sopranos?
    What peterj said.
Btw, last evening while reading Bill O’Reilly’s “Killing Jesus”, in a chapter about Julius Caesar, there was mention of Mark Antony being ac/dc as well as a pe*ophile.

  8. What the popular press is decidedly vague about is the nature of the law itself. The press uses the blanket term “anti-gay laws” when, in fact, the law prohibits deliberate dissemination of (insert own sexual alphabet soup here) lifestyle to minors:

It’s hard to see why this would objectionable to anyone, save homosexual special-interest groups, as no one should be able to willy-nilly enter elementary schools and prosetylise. What the allegedly brave in the West won’t touch is freedom of speech and Putin’s control over the media. That would mean that activists would have to address the arrest of bloggers and journalists and then really be brave about things.

  9. Imagine the sh+tstorm that would follow if Putin took this approach to climate change. Or if Harper did (anything).

  10. Yes peterj, “Men are men and women are women. If in doubt look in the mirror” but that’s way too simplistic in Ontario public education system where I’ve heard kids are being told they may look like a boy or girl but they may not feel that way. Keeping watch for an outbreak of protests from parents if this is true.

    Heee, heeee, heeeeeeeeeee……….
Just a dash of sarcasm there?

  12. Russia has been taking opportunity of the current occupation of the White House ti expand its hegemony in eastern Europe and the Middle East. Though their military remains formidable, they are epanding their influence via economic means.
A good example is the expansion of their nuclear program. Not weapons, but reactors. They’ve been signing deals left and right as a part of encouraging support with their neighbours. Other examples abound, the most obvious of which manifested itself in the protests we see in Ukraine.
In short, Putin hopes to achieve what the Soviets failed to do, and what the Russians have always done since the first Czars: re-establish the old Byzantine Empire led by Moscow.
My guess (tell me I’m wrong) is Putin engineered the anti-gay legislation as a stunt to distract the fact that Russia is expanding its influence while stealing at least $40 billion from the state and lining the pockets of himself and his cronies. He was betting on the West to display its trademark narcissism re: gay propaganda, and we’re acting out exactly as he predicted.
We’re choosing the easy path, one which allows us to pat our own backs while avoiding the hard choices necessasry to stand up to Putin.
    It’s depressing, really.

  13. “What these politically correct fairy warriors seem to forget is that Putin has the support of the vast majority of Russians in his anti gay stand.”
Quite true, though I’d suggest that most Russians would probably quietly tolerate gays if they just didn’t make such a big deal about it all. But gay “education” aimed at minors? Not in a million years.
Popular Russian sentiment also has little use for Pussy Riot and their publicity-addicted antics either. Again, the West can lionize them all it wants; the effect will only be to harden Russian opinion.
