  1. It’s like the progressives just want to make Atlas Shrugged a reality.
Just imagine, sending boatloads of supplies to the starving people’s states of Europe. But do we have a blonde haired pirate who’ll put a stop to it?

  2. It doesn’t make sense to even ask Canada to bail out the Euro zone. We have what, 1/100 of the GDP that the Euro zone has? Even if we wanted to, it would be impossible.

  3. The problem is that progressives think Animal Farm, 1984, Brave New World and Atlas Shrugged are instruction manuals, not warnings…

  4. Last century we had to bail out Europe.
    Twice. And we used soldiers.
Now some think we should use our money, well actually Western Canada’s money, to bail out a failing socialist experiment.
    Those are the stupid people.
The rest of us refuse to subsidize Euro socialism as it goes down the tubes.
Flush, flush, flush . . But use your own money.

  5. It’s ironic that after we shed our blood removing that German despot Germany has faired better than Canada both economically and civilly – German enjoy full property rights and make a good wage and in spite of their socialist government take home a good deal of their wages which buys more than out inflating bucks here. Germany’s social entitlements (education and health care) are the world’s benchmark and Germans enjoy full service public systems for the taxes they pay.
Most of the short myopic economic pundits say China is the next industrial/economic power house, but I think that role could be filled by Germany quite easily. Take a close look at their solvency and affuent middle class.

  6. Maybe we could apply the old adage “charity begins at home”.
Ontario is a prime example of an economic disaster, going from bread basket to a basket case under the stewardship of a third term Liberal government, two of them majorities and the third a defacto majority with NDP support.

  7. Occam @ 11:13- interesting thought, we should bring the country who beggered,(spelling correct) closer to our resources. As mentioned ad nauseum by myself in this blog site; Germany conspired with France to establish a market to compete with the U.S.A
Germany could then sell their expensive cars and France would have a consumer products market of a greater size than the other largest consumer product provider,U.S.A.
The good life along the Mediterrean Sea; the ease of living with readily available packaged products; upward mobility in the class dominated European society; what politician wouldn’t do everything he/she could to buy the votes. The result: loss of sovereignity and a grim future for following generations.
    If you have not personally “done business” with the European coalition it is probably better if you do more homework. Cheers;

  8. “No sorry but here’s three boatloads of dead seals.
    You’re welcome, eh!

But without the fur,of course.Might upset the poor little socialists!

  9. I posted a nasty message at the link,to the effect that if Mr.Harper or Mr. Flaherty want to destroy their conservative base, just bail out the Euros.
Europe, who constantly revile us for our seal hunt and “tar sands” can go F*** themselves. Sorry, but after living with the effects of what their lovely wars did to two of our best generations, I have no bloody use for the Europeans and their communist societies.
Mr.Harper, you might mention how much Canada sacrificed in two World Wars, and you might mention to Ms.Merkel that HER home Country played a significant part in that sacrifice.
She has her bloody nerve asking US to help bail THEM out!
Mr.Harper: NOT ONE CENT OF CANADIAN TAXPAYER”S DOLLARS FOR EUROPE!
Tell ’em for me to get stuffed!

  10. Harper should just give her that f*&^ing inukshuk. If I see one more of those things I’m gonna go postal.

  11. As somebody already said we couldn’t bail them out if we wanted to. After Who Two World wars where they have learnt nothing but even more totalitarianism. We dont want our prople dying for the right of the French to try to break up.The Nation or England who reviles at every turn, insult us anymore.
    Our dead speak loud.
Triple that for the Countries who fought us & still hate us.
The ones who are still trying to revive the Roman Empire by stealth, or dishonesty.
Let the bed dugs get them in the muccck they have created. Seems well put on people who prefer mad mullahs instead of Jews anyway.
They have destroyed themselves. Let them live with the choices of what they have done for once.

  12. Says it all here. No need to speculate.
Luk 4:3 The devil said to him, “If you are the Son of God, command this stone to become bread.”
Luk 4:4 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone.'”
Luk 4:5 And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time,
Luk 4:6 and said to him, “To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will.
Luk 4:7 If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours.”
Luk 4:8 And Jesus answered him, “It is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'”
Luk 4:17 And the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written,
Luk 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed,
Luk 4:19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”
Notice how he leaves out the last parts till He comes again. After dying as the prophet Daniel
Prophesied (Dan 9:26 And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing. And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. Its [fn] end shall come with a flood, and to the end there shall be war. Desolations are decreed.).
Thats His next coming, not as the lamb of God to be slain for our sins, but the Lion of Judah come in the “day of the Lord”.
and the day of vengeance of our God,
    to comfort all who mourn,
3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion—
to bestow on them a crown of beauty
    instead of ashes,
    the oil of gladness
    instead of mourning,
    and a garment of praise
instead of a spirit of despair.
They will be called oaks of righteousness,
    a planting of the Lord
for the display of his splendor.
4 They will rebuild the ancient ruins
    and restore the places long devastated;
they will renew the ruined cities
that have been devastated for generations.

  13. Canada makes up 2.5% of world GDP, if we took 2.5% of the $450B bailout it would cost us $11.25B. I would offer that bailout on the condition of a free trade agreement. Once the agreement is signed we contribute to the bailout fund. Puts Canada in the driver seat in negotiations.
The free trade agreement is estimated at $12B per year (not sure if that is total trade both ways or only Canada’s portion). We could make our money back in short order. I know we would be bailing out a bunch of deadbeats but would be a good time to take advantage of their weak hand.

  14. Conquering wasn’t really necessary. Edward III of England should have been King of France, and would have been had the House of Valois not fiddled him out of it. Europe would have been spared centuries of misery had Englishmen ruled France.
As it is, Catholic Europe can get its bailout from the Pope of Rome. He owes them more favours than the Queen of Canada does.
If the French really want the help of Englishmen one more time, let them do what they should have done centuries ago—recognize Elizabeth the Second as queen and submit to British dominion.

  15. No,we should not bail them out.
Then again ,as world citizens we should not ignore their plight either. It’s time to think outside the box.I have a robust idea.
Why doesn’t Canada just give them the deed to Quebec? I believe it would be a good fit. A win-win proposal.

  16. Dick Slater : All true, only problem we’d all be speaking and be French by now.
As to Hitler, had he been much less of genocidal nitwit the eastern front would have been over in 1942,Stalin would be hung and the soviets extripated, they’d have forced the British Empire into an “honorable” peace. ( the US would have gone along.) and established a European Free trade area from the Urals to the sea.
Hopefully he would then die and the Nazi party would implode. Leaving very competent Germans to clean up and run the house.
Otherwise we’d have the usual socialist mess ending in bloodshed and wrecked economies.
    Oh. Wait.

  17. We don’t have any money to bail them out. We would have to borrow it. Why should we put ourselves farther in debt just so the spoiled brats of Europe can continue living beyond their means? All we would be doing is postponing the day when Europeans have to start behaving like responsible adults.

  18. I am against any bailout money for Europe because it will only go to prop up the people who caused the crisis in the first place. I was against all the bailouts in 2008 for the same reason. If all those companies had been allowed to fail the world economy would have bounced back far better by now and we wouldn’t be facing a double dip (or triple dip I’ve lost count) recession.

  19. I thought our contribution was ensuring a oil supply by conquering Libya for them? Now, not only money but they want our help to straighten Syria out. Eurocentric is an accurate description of these people. Not interested.
When the full impact of debt deleveraging kicks in worldwide we will have a hard enough time keeping our own house in order. People have to realize that the bulk of Euroland is toast. The truly laughable line of BS about Germany hiding behind a cheap euro to fund their exports will not convince Germans. As the EU ultimately collapses Germany will cobble another market together and go on doing business.
I was in Shanghai in the early ’80’s and attended a nice little hotel watering hole. I was immediately struck by the number of business people there and the fact that the majority were speaking German. For those that think Germany cannot compete without the Euro I suggest they read Volkswagon’s annual statement. Largest car company in the world and the vast majority of its production is outside Europe and doing business in local currencies.

  20. No bailout from Canadian tax dollars!
One suspects that the goal of (at least some of) the bailout advocates is to drag the productive economies down with the failing ones. The worst of them are still trying to destroy capitalism, because they think socialism will rise from the ashes like a butterfly out of a cocoon. This constitutes the biggest and most ridiculous case of “magical thinking” in the history of the world.
Let Europe clean up its own act. All it has to do is to eliminate the national and EU bureaucracies that produce nothing, then free up national economies. That’s all! And that is the ONLY solution.
