BTW, years ago an Ontario teacher sued to see that his union dues didn’t go to fund the abortionist NDP and he lost badly with the supreme court ruling that he couldn’t stop dues going to fund the NDP because (IIRC) funding the NDP was in workers’ best interest.

While the behaviour of the Wisconsin teachers is egregious and unconscionable,
I do not read of the Gov. taking any steps against one problem which is entirely under his control:
his Department of Education.
I know nothing of education in that state, but in jurisdictions with which I am familiar, the Department of Education is excessively large,
excessively well paid (better than teachers; and they often bring in even more expensive consultants on matters such as curricula); and hives of moonbattery.
Teachers are not self-regulating; to a considerable extent they do what they are told to do.
Universities on the other hand are self-governing and have 0.0 justification for their excesses.
So far as I can see Scott Walker will be happy with less well paid teachers
who are teaching the same old leftist hoodwinkery.
He should have begun by firing 2/3 of his own educational bureaucrats.
I hold one thing against Mike Harris as Premier of Ontario, that he was forever making war against
Ontario’s teachers, not with great success, when he might have improved education by walking 100 m
and telling his own educrats to clean out their desks. Opportunity missed.
There is often too much attention paid to how much teachers make, when the first question should be, “are they worth anything at all”.
There is too much discussion about their 3 months leave, when a major issue is that judging by results, most should be on 12 months leave per year.

In a broader perspective, is this not what has happened to the Canadian taxpayer? With the current funding of political parties by public funding. I don’t want my tax dollars funding political campaigns of people I disagree with any more than I would want my union dues doing this.
It’s when large sums of money are accessable we see the corrupt soul of us-first socialism.
But…the children!
No one should be forced to join a union, particularly one that considers these dirty tricks acceptable.

If Wisconsin stands firm on this they will benefit all of North America. Fifty States along with 10 Canadian provinces. A precedent will have been set.

Expecting improved results in education within the current confrontational unionized and monopoly framework run by senior levels of government is wishful thinking in the extreme. The system is rotten and corrupt and warrants a whole lot of competition. Many, perhaps most teachers have been converted into political operatives by their Marxist union thugs, enabled by generations of useful idiot politicians (pimping the decline). They are de facto human conduits for tax dollars to flow into the hands of the most leftist politicians (after union skimming) to shake-down government further, which is the conduit to more taxpayers or (more accurately) borrowed money. Meanwhile the curricula has been infected with every leftist and green narrative de jour. If it weren’t for the fact that the POTUS was just another union lackey supporting the mobs, the magnitude of the bankruptcy of the US should warrant a Reagan – Air Traffic Controller’s moment.

I have no choice, I am against the activism of this union, but I must pay the dues.
Let’s see how political they get during our upcoming provincial election in Ontario.
In the first paragraph of Michelle Malkin’s article, she notes, “free speech not only means the freedom to voice your political views, but also the freedom from being forced to pay for someone else’s”.
This is of course correct. It’s too bad that our own Supreme Court did not understand this principle.
Here’s Bertha Wilson writing in the Lavigne case: “To my mind, the appellant has not advanced sufficiently compelling reasons to justify extending freedom of association, having regard to its purpose, to include a freedom not to associate. In the words of Dickson J. in Big M Drug Mart, supra, at p. 344, this would be ‘to overshoot the actual purpose of the right or freedom in question’.”
Freedom of association INCLUDES the right not to associate with someone else, by definition. Otherwise, for example, the laws against stalking would be invalid, and many women would be living in fear.
The decision also contains the standard preposterous take on the scope of the Charter, but that’s another story.
How did people as ignorant of fundamental human rights as Bertha Wilson and Brian Dickson wind up on our Supreme Court? Bad judges can do incalculable damage to the country, and these two certainly did, on more than one occasion.
