  1. If President Obama had any class he could have set the record straight at the memorial with a simple statement, such as: “I have not seen any evidence connecting my opponent Sarah Palin to this terrible crime; to suggest otherwise would be irresponsible, unfair, and malicious.”
That would have put the whole matter to rest and people could focus on genuine mourning instead of the elephant in the room: Obama’s unspoken opinion on the matter. Whether Obama likes it or not he is President and representative of ALL Americans including Palin. She deserved a fair shake from him in light of the developments. And so did the rest of America.

  2. So, Obama is being held responsible for a the reaction of a bunch of immature university students who continue to project their hopeychangey delusions onto him as their saviour?

  3. So how is this not Obama’s fault as so many claim?
A lack of propriety and proper decorum is the hallmark of Obama’s presidency.
The man gave a shout out during the speech he previously gave on the Fort Hood massacre.
This lack of reverence, his disdain for traditional American values is something that Obama has had all along.
Remember his refusal to wear an American flag pin?
This is why the Obama’s were left off the list of invitations to the Royal Wedding.
    Even the Brits get it.
So the college students were immature?
They were just responding to the atmosphere that Obama’s team created around the entire occasion.
That venue, that atmosphere, chosen specifically to contrast with what many now claim is Obama’s “calm statesmanship” which is a pose that I have never seen him strike before.
    It was a pose, though.
If Obama had held the “memorial” at the monkey house in the Phoenix Zoo would the lack of solemn sobriety be the fault of the monkeys?

  4. I just want to be sure, did everyone commenting actually listen to the podcast up to & including the discussion with Jonah Goldberg? I ask, because “set you free”‘s comment makes little sense in the context of what’s in the podcast.

  5. Well, I see that KRAUTHAMMER has slapped down Limbaugh for his negative comments on the pep-rally-“memorial”.
All the conservative A-listers seem to be keen on the speech.
I notice too that Chris Christie thinks it was wonderful and has suggested Palin be “less scripted”. Was Obama using his teleprompters in the pep-rally-memorial?
To understand why so many star-cons have been sucked in, go to FrontPage and read the script of a Stanley Kurtz speech about his new book Radical in Chief about the Marxist in the Whitehouse.
If these assholes had a clue about the deliberate destruction of America being engineered right from the Whitehouse, they’d observe this paraphrased spot of wisdom: “If you don’t have anything bad to say, don’t say anything”.
Condemn the speech or shut up. NEVER praise Obama. He’s now started his 2012 campaign and if this star-con suckerdom continues, we’re doomed.

  6. set you free. Did you think the T-shirt souvenirs were anything but an organized effort? Did you think busing in people that would applaud at a memorial was an accident? It was a branding event. From praise for the cluster//// sheriff to the whole let’s be friends while we do this.
If he were serious TOTUS would have stayed home because he would actually have something important to say

  7. The organizers got exactly the atmosphere they wanted, otherwise it would not have been held at the university.

  8. Listening to the podcast, I found myself moved to think; “That’s not a memorial. That’s cynical political opportunism of the part of the Obama administration. It’s not about the dead and their lives, it’s an Obama-fest love-in.”
    Truly nauseating.

  9. That was not a memorial; it was the beginning of Obama’s 2012 campaign.
If Obama had any principles, he would have instantly stopped the cheers – with: ‘Stop. This is a memorial. Let us be respectful to their memories’.
That’s all he had to do. Even one word: Stop.
He didn’t. Instead, he allowed the cheers.
And, as noted above, he ought to have specfically referred to Palin and stopped the speculation. He didn’t. Why not?
Because it was a campaign speech. He didn’t want to offend his leftist base by telling them their speculations were wrong; his words about not speculating were general – and readily could be used by the left to refer…to the right.
Did he or his staff stop the Democrat-Blue T-shirts, emblazoned with, I suspect his new Mantra: “Together We Thrive’? No. What did these have to do with a memorial?
Just as his ‘Hope and Change’ campaign was based on rhetoric and cheers – this was vintage Obama. Manipulating the crowd, saying general phrases that could mean whatever the listener wanted…
And the vitriol continues from the left. Did Obama’s speech stop them? No.
If he were sincere, then, the WH ought to have issues a statement immediately when the vicious rhetoric started – saying: Stop.
If he were since, then, since the blame is continuing – the WH ought to issue a statement saying: Stop.
    Instead – silence.
He turned it into a campaign stop.

  10. Ricardo, Obama has no class. He is struggling to redeem his failed presidency and this tragedy is a golden ticket for him. His scoring off of Sarah Palin deflects attention from his mistakes.

  11. Anyone who thinks the president was not responsible for this travesty is naive at best. I posted a lot about this on the January 12 thread, “Is There Nothing That Obama Can’t Do?”
One of my comments, the second on that thread, was, “Utterly disgusting, and quite in line with the opportunism of the snake oil salesman who allowed this to happen.”
When the president’s in attendance, everything that happens is subject to his approval. The T-shirts? HIS new logo and motto are on them. Now, how did it happen that the T-shirts were there? Coincidence? I wrote at another thread:
“NB: The fact that the T-shirts have the OBAMA logo and would have been approved and the manufacture shepherded by the Obama administration, well in advance, PROVES THAT OBAMA IS NOT INNOCENT RE THE CIRCUS GOINGS-ON in Tucson.”
Here’s what Rush had to say about that:

“Oh, come on [to a lefty about the fallout after the shootings]. It was everything we knew it would be. It became everything we knew it would be, and that is attacking talk radio, attacking Sarah Palin. We knew. It was utterly predictable. I tell you, the reason why they waited as long to do this [the “memorial service”] was they were waiting for polling data. The polling data shows the American people do not associate political rhetoric with anything that happened in this incident. That’s what they were waiting on. If the polling data had been different the speech would have been different, but because the polling data says the American people don’t associate political give and take, the political rhetoric in the media with what happened here, that pretty much dictated how the speech had to go. So they had to wait for the polling data to come in. That’s why they waited — I have no doubt — plus, plus, my friends, they needed time to print those T-shirts to give away at the rally . . .”
The rally was a total disgrace, and not one grown up stepped forward to say, “STOP.” I believe a word form Obama would have made a difference. (But I guess he couldn’t do that because it wasn’t scripted on TOTUS.)
As a teacher, it’s no surprise to me that both the kids and the “adults” behaved as they did. The kids are used to doing whatever they want. “Human rights” codes, like our Charter, have protected miscreants now for decades. If a teacher should come down hard, the kids or their parents complain to administration, and it’s the teacher who takes the knocks. I don’t like it, but, understandably, many teachers just look the other way: why step up, just to be shot down? So, what happened in that stadium—or whatever it was—is “Welcome to Dystopia”, the very one created by lefties like Obama. They like chaos: all the better to take control. (But, as we notice, unless it’s at the bureaucratic, arms-length level, they don’t.)
I also thought, “Why doesn’t someone just walk out?” That, too, might have broken the ghastly spell over this whole fiasco.
That there are still people on “the right” who give Obama credit for more than just a fine speech, as far as the words go, appalls me. In the context of who he really is, I believe the speech was just another lie, with finesse, yes, but still a lie: Jonah Goldberg hinted at that.
Sow’s ears don’t turn into silk purses. As far as I’m concerned, Obama’s no more than a well dressed sow’s ear.

  12. Don’t EVER think this narcissic pos, has an ounce of principle, or anything remotely resembling class, or grace.
His name and these terms should never appear in the same sentence. The empty shirt confirms this fact with ever utterance from his scripted, foul mouth.
I almost retch whenever I see “it” at a podium.A more sterile, plastic whore, there never was.

  13. It twasn’t a memorial services, it was a kick off for the start of his campaign. It was a despicable display of narcissism, I’m surprised he wasn’t passing around the hat for his next campaign now that Georgy isn’t his sugar daddy.

  14. How anyone in the MSM can continue ‘idolizing’ the resident of the WH after the ‘memorial in Tucson’ truly beggars belief. We are a lot further down the rabbit hole than anyone can imagine. How anyone in the MSM can Google Bush’s speech after the Virginia Tech. tragedy and then Sarah Palin’s u-tube video of this week and still come up with adoration for the ‘One’ is positive proof that Liberalism is a mental disorder and that there is very little hope left (pardon the pun) for America.

  15. Yeah, I felt the same way but thought maybe because I think Obama is a putz that my feelings about him were clouding my perspective … until I saw the friggin t-shirts that is!

  16. set you free, whenever you post I feel ill. You really are a total idiot. God help the world if you are what we have to look forward to.
    That aside…
I saw a some parts of the “memorial” and to be honest I think America has lost her soul. My wife agrees, and she’s a true blue 100% died-in-the-wool American.
I never thought I would live life to see such a once-great country disintegrate before my very eyes.
    Hope I’m wrong.

  17. “If Obama had any principles, he would have instantly stopped the cheers – with: ‘Stop. This is a memorial. Let us be respectful to their memories’.”
ET, as you often do, you nailed it smack on the head.

To show his disdain for the greatness of the United States, President Obama wore a socialist tie. It is also reported that he spoke at a time and place and that a lot of people were distracted from their normal work environments to attend the presidents speech, again showing a disdain for the capitalist system. An unnamed insider has also suggested he lied about having orange juice for breakfast in a vain attempt to placate the citrus industries of Florida and California. Obama continues to inhabit the big house even though, as Andrew Brietbart reports on his Big Government website that James O’Keefe has video footage of someone inside putting up a Remax sign on the front lawn. Since no other news agency is reporting on these stories, we must assume that the other news outlets are in the pocket of the administration, demonstrating again how the whitehouse is twisting the first amendment toward its socialist, communist, and Nazi goals, while courageous fair and balanced patriots like Limbaugh and Beck risk their lives exposing the circuitous and devious explanations of government officials to show us how our freedoms are being taken away.,/a>
