  1. Jacko the Wacko . . . he be entertaining if he wasn’t so shallow minded, so intellectually vapid, so morally reprehensible.

  2. I really never thought I’d defend Jack but his position on both the NAU and the SPP is absolutely in line with constitutional protocol….and I agree with him entirely.
Harper has no constitutional authority to sign any international agreement with the Americans and Mexicans without parliamentary oversight, disclosure and debate.
…one of the few times Jack has actually been a responsible MP….and of all things it had to be said with a tinfoil hat rodeo going on in the background…..a bad place to seek constitutional credibility.

  3. Actually WLMR:
Unless I am gravely mistaken, the process is this: The government signs a treaty, and then the treaty is subject of Parliamentary debate after which the treaty is subject of a vote, the vote dictating whether or not the treaty is ratified.
Unless the document is signed by all parties, it seems to me that Parliament would have nothing to debate about.

  4. Well, he didn’t sign any Treaty that was made public, so guess he didn’t sign one.
That wouldn’t stop Jacko from yakking on in his Lefty fog though.
He keeps carping on about what Canadians want or what they don’t want as if he has been consulting us all. He hasn’t and he’s so damned out of touch he’s not aware of the fact CANADIANS DON’T WANT HIM.

  5. Liz- jack & stephane were on CanadaAM this morning, Jack complaining that the shuffle is not what canadians want(again layton Knows what We want after consulting his burnt out crystal ball), Stepanwolf i could not understand. But what amusues me is they were both calling on the PM to fire O’Connor over the past months so he replaces him & they still Bitch.

  6. I think the whole point is that the “North American Union” nonsense is about as nutty as the 9/11 denial movement. The fact that Layton is answering them at all tells me that he’s either ignorant about the true nature of these accusations or that he’s a bit of a conspiracy-loon himself. Personally, I’d just have referred them to a good psychiatrist.

  7. True Story: so there I was sitting in the Maple Leaf lounge at YVR with a colleague and his wife, waiting for a plane to Victoria – when the wife looks up and says to us both…”should I know that guy over there? He looks like someone i’ve seen recently” and indicates with her head over our shoulders to none other than ‘talitubby jack’ layton beavering away on his laptop.
I said, “that’s Taliban Jack Layton, friend to our troops”.
She says, “Oh, him. He needs a really good kicking”
Nothing more needed to be said really….

  8. I can understand some people are hesitant/against the idea of extraterritorial agreements with other countries, particularly US. Layton is right that these agreements should come under oversight of parliament. Two problems – what rally organizers want is, not debate, but refusal to even consider. Read Carol Goar’s article in TStar. Second, they blow their credibility away with their 9/11 “truth” BS. No wonder Jack looked uncomfortable talking with these people, starting with “I’m still studying the issue” statement. On the other hand, wingnuts have free speech rights too.

  9. Actually Bruce, the constitutional protocol is this: any “treaty” which cedes Canadian sovereignty needs full disclosure and ratification by Parliment…protocol dictates that the terms and details be made public and debated before a Canadian PM can bargain terms in good faith with any other foreign party concerning Candian sovereignty and possible provincial jurisdictions….other wise he can’t ptomise the other partners in the deal that the finalized terms will be accepted…it also means a finalized deal cannot be amended by parliament.
Even Muldoom the Chin didn’t plop an undebated treaty down into committee without prior debate and an understanding of the terms the opposition would allow,
As for you not knowing what is going on with the SPP and NAU initiative, I’m not surprised , it has been the MSM’s best kept secret since the Desmarais/Powercor links to Liberal PMs.
Aug. 20 Montebello Quebec is the 3rd summit on integrating federal administrative and regulatory bureaucracies with Mexico and the US..which Martin started to the howling of a CPC caucus about the secrecy.

  10. No longer watch Canada AM bryanr, maybe I should for aggravation.
It may be a good thing we can’t understand much of what Stephi says,it will drive the Libranos farther away from power and insure a Conservative Majority. The Liberals know it too, that’s why their in such a snit.
It’s so brainless to be critiquing Harper’s shuffle of ministers when they were all calling for the head of O’Connor, the best Defence Minister we’ve had, on Military procurement matters, he did the job. The other changes are very positive ones.
    Canada is in good hands.

  11. As I see it,Jack bin Layton has become the single most insincere and opportunistic politician in this country.
    And that’s saying a lot.

  12. The Star article is one of the least sensational pieces I have read on the deal, surprising given the usually shrill Carol Goar wrote it. The Lefty Conspirazoids have of course spun this into something akin to the Reichstag fire. I love watching them spin.

  13. Don’t worry, Blazingcatfur, Carol Goar has returned to here inane writing style, after the decent article on SPP.

  14. I guess that means right wingers who oppose SPP, like The John Birch Society, also support islamofacism.

  15. And when the Kyoto crap was signed by chretain, did it come before the HofC first. Didn’t think so. Clinton signed it but it was defeated by the senate and congress.

  16. MaryT: Chretien didn’t have a debate in the HOC before committing troops to Afghanistan either, it’s now the biggest carping point for the Opposition.
Layton and Dion with all their supreme knowledge on how to handle the mission are giving the enemy a heads up by calling for a definite pullout date.
Layton saying “Canadians” don’t want to fight this battle is an invitation for the enemy to target our troops to weaken the people’s support.

Yes the left has a way of blowing things out of proportion to make us react on emotion rather than reason…however, it is foolish to dismiss the thought of any malfeasance in government…that unthinking loyalty to political brand names and regimes is as foolish as the left’s lockstep with socialist statism and big brother government.
BTW the Reichstag did burn and whether there was conspiracy or nit the end result was Hitler capitalized on the event.
It us also unwise to assume every event in power politics is “coincidence”.
9/11 may not be an inside job but it certainly is an under investigated seminal event and there have never been concrete explanations how a multi trillion dollar defense system failed completlely that day….the government’s position is they don’t want to even discuss it…I say that is incriminating in itself.
As with the SPP..the secrecy is unneeded…so why is it there? There is also a lot of potential harm to Canadian sovereignty in some areas of the SPP and for my money, as a Canadian citizen and voter, I think the deal and its objectives are irresponsibly under reported and undiscussed in parliament for this thing to even be at a 3rd stage.
As the article says, public debate is needed to at least set a line between cooperation and integration.
Let’s not make jerking knees as common in Conservative thought as it is on the left.

  18. Yes President Harper welcomes free trade with Columbia. That’s just great. You won’t see his son’s ass in Afghanistan even if he was old enough. We have one opposition party in Canada who speaks out. That is the NDP. No one else opens their crooked mouths. We are the laughing stock of the world with Harper at the helm. He is Bush’s monkey that’s all.

  19. Well Mr.layton scares you tory idiots doesn’t he. He and the NDP are the only true voice for the people.
