Count Your Blessings, America

Gateway Pundit has the charts;

Democrats and the media have set new guidelines for America.
The national sacrifice limit will now be set at 4000, max.
Anytime the US records 4000 military losses in 5 1/2 years it will be recognized under the new rules as a horrible defeat.
The US will then promptly surrender to the nearest enemy.

They might have set it at 0.

  1. It’s not a matter of surrendering (Silly concept to apply to the Iraq situation)
It’s a matter of doing the inevitable now as opposed to later.
Americans should not let losers start wars.

  2. It all boils down to leftards wanting to prove the “other side” wrong! They desperately need this to be true in order to save themselves from the kind of shitcanning that occurred post Reagan and allowed the incompetent Clinton’s to ride and try to take credit for the economic growth and prosperity that resulted from his policies!
The difference here is that while Reagan had the opportunity to do advance US interests through tough economic and policy Bush has been forced to react to outer pressures. IMO his reaction was exactly the right thing to do.
Basically the leftards WANT the US to fail to justify their own warped ideology!
Having painted Bush and the Republicans as the evil parties they’ll do anything to take them down and are quite willing to sacrifice anyone and anything including the security of their nation and of the entire free world to accomplish their self serving ends.
Layton is just a freeking idiot performing his peace monkey routine by parroting the leftwing line at every opportunity.

  3. What OMMAG said. The disloyalty displayed by both Layton and the US DemocRats is simply amazing.
Truth is, the war and the tax cut are pretty much the only things Bush got right. As far as shrinking the US government goes he’s been a dead loss.

  4. Or rather, whenever policy aims are manqué by the tactics employed; disdain criticism and intensify those ineffective efforts.
Remember: war policy is infallible once someone gets hurt. So say the patriots.

  5. While I support the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, I wonder whether these wars can actually be won. We are dealing with Muslim countries whose philosophy and ways of governing are much different from ours. More importantly, we are fighting an enemy whose tactics are much more difficult to counter with the weapons and strategies that have worked in past wars. It would be a tragedy to lose all these soldiers if we are defeated in the end anyway.

  6. Gee if one were to accept the Bush = Hitler mantra trotted out so facetiously; man the body count should be climbing dramatically to around the 60 million or so total.
In total black farce, Bush should be piling the bodies higher and deeper.
Now of course it is inconvenient to point out that the guys and gals waving around the “God Bless Hitler ” sign were the hothead Taliban/Al Qaeda types running around Afghanistan/Pakistan.
Thus if Bush = Hitler it stands to reason that the Taliban/Al Qaeda are cheering on Bush!?!
In constrast, Bush runs around suggesting “God Bless America”.
I suppose we should hope and pray, that God would make up His mind.
It is terribly distressing when the left lib and MSM can’t get their collective acts together when facts point to exactly the opposite conclusion.
But then facts and reality don’t matter when you have to get your ‘team back in power.’
This of course results in the conclusion that politics is among one of the “black arts”; because it sure isn’t science.
Oh and by the way “God Help Us.”

  7. The 3000+ of us slaughtered on the morning of 9/11 hasn’t fit the Democrat’s atrocity guidelines either.
These spineless Democrat whimps and their cohorts in Canada and Europe will get us all killed. They will give Iran a pass. They don’t have the guts to shore up Musharraf and protect Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal from crazies if needed. They won’t secure borders. They won’t stop their Orwellian pc censorship under which we can’t even call our mortal enemy, their motives, by their proper name.
Clinton never had a plan to deal with terrorism. Jimmy Carter basically surrendered to the thugs in Tehran when they overran our embassy. The Democrats have a long history of spineless and stupid behavior.

  8. The last I heard, our military was composed of people who VOLUNTEERED. These same volunteers were sent to Afghanistan by a LIBERAL government elected by the people of Canada. Coming from a military family(my brothers and I did over 50 years service, with tours in every shithole on this planet)I think I have a few qualifications to speak on this matter. We did not send the boy scouts, girl guides, peace corp, or any other mamby/pamby outfit to afghani, we sent our MILITARY. One of the constants in military life is that soldiers die in the line of duty. Whether it be driver training, training exercises, search and rescue or war, soldiers die. Period, end of story. So, please, all you leftard morons, shut your f@#$ing mouths with your crocodile tears for the soldiers. You have no respect for any individual who wears a uniform(last I heard, we are all baby murderer’s and terrorists). Once again, soldiers die(on one exercise with the Brits, we filled 30 bodybags in our sector alone). I have buried troops who have died from plane crashes, vehicle accidents(shit happens at 60KMH going through rough terrain), chopper incidents, fires, tank incidents, etc, etc, etc). So, please, leftard idiots, bitch at the politicos all you want, but save your bullshit for the annual gay parade, or whatever your pet cause of the day is. GO ARMY!

  9. The Democrats together with Taliban Jack and his horde of parasites cannot agree on anything positive to say about Bush. This would then prove Bush right and thus them wrong. To the parasites’ minds it’s better that we all die vs. just them losing their entitlements.
Now the parasites want a say in governing Ontario through the back door via Proportional Representation. Notice how they are keeping quiet on this matter so that the populace is hit with a big surprise when the referendum comes. They get all their votes in Toronto and are rewarded with seats across the province. They are the Liberal’s ticket to perpetual government. Parasites!

  10. So OBL is correct…..America is a paper tiger.
Give it a bloody nose and it will run away….?
That being said Iraq was a war of choice as was Vietnam, as was Bosnia.
Bosnia is the only one they stuck with, but there was more shared by other partners and less resources, particularly boots, required.
4,000 dead likely means 40,000 seriously injured. 30 years ago that 10:1 ratio would have been more like 5 to 1 so to properly compare that might have meant 20,000 dead after 5 years.
Lowering the costs of conflict, which the US has successfully done, has benefits. Toppling Saddam took only 150,000 troops whereas it tool 500,000 10 years earlier.
While lowering the costs gives you flexibility it puts a premium on ensuring your strategy is right and correct so you dont find yourself in too many conflicts.
I still believe the US is untouchable in a conventional war. I think the drive to Bagdahd absolutely freaked out the Chinese and the Russians, the Chinese in particular who still count on mass to win. But Iraq is no longer conventional….figure that one out and the US is truely untouchable except by nuclear…..which should give people pause.

  11. “Clinton never had a plan to deal with terrorism”
But Bush is doing the “hard werk” to get the job done, right?
After the initial world trade center bombing in 1993, 8 years, 6 months and 16 days passed before another incident in America. It has only been 5 years, 10 months and a day since the second event. All of the tenured failures associated with this administration suggest another attack is imminent.
It would seem Bush has a ways to go to equal Clinton’s record.
    We report, you decide.

  12. The nature of conflicts change over time. There’s no point in comparing the initial assault on Iraq to the war as it is now. Saddam’s army was a hollow shell, manned mostly by conscripts, and bereft of much military talent because he was unable to tolerate the kind of culture that would have produced good leaders and a solid corps of junior officers and NCOs.
The terrorists and insurgent groups were quick to learn and adapt. Al Queda and its adjuncts were also effectively ruthless in suppressing resistance to their presence. Our own soldiers have proven capable of endless adaptation to the realities of the battle space, often well in advance of their leadership.
That is also normal. In almost any military organization (or civilian one, for that matter) the people on the cutting edge become proficient at a variety of skills and are quick to adapt to change and to adopt new methods. Management is always somewhat behind the situation. It could not be otherwise and hasn’t been otherwise since the days when commanders led small groups of soldiers personally.
The current tactical situation has evolved from our experience of the last few years. For the time being, the ‘surge’ and various COIN techniques are working well. Probably, that approach would not have worked until recently. The Iraqi populace had to be exposed to Al Queda at its worst in order to arrive at a collective mindset suitable for cooperation with Coalition forces.
Time is of the essence. The Iraqi army is slowly developing into an effective organization. A good army is built on a solid foundation of trained officers and NCOs. Such development requires time, even in the midst of battle.
How much time? I suspect another year will see a radically different situation – different for the better. I also suspect that to be the real fear behind the Democrats present panic.
Politics is a necessary ingredient of human existence. But this present Congress smells rotten. When I read one of Pelosi’s statements or hear Reid’s whining defeatism, I want to wash my hands.
If the nascent Iraqi state is crushed in the aftermath of a Congressional-forced withdrawal, the stage will be set for a holocaust that will dwarf the efforts of Hitler and Stalin.

  13. Let’s see. There were 44,000 automobile deaths in the US in 2005. That means in 5 weeks, the number of people killed on America’s safe, un-mined, non-combat zone roadways will equal the deaths after 5 and 1/2 years of fighting in a foreign country.

  14. Ah-h-h, but if the limit were set to 0, instead of 4,000, then our Democrats would have missed out on all the fun and gratification of multiple surrender opportunities, not to mention gasbag practice on all the TV shows.

  15. Remember when George W Bush stood on the deck of the USS Abraham Lincoln with the “Mission Accomplished” banner on May 1, 2003? That was truly Bush’s greatest moment. It really was mission accomplished and a great and historic victory for the US.
Now here we are more than four years later still in Iraq, losing an average of three soldiers a day, with the country on the brink of a multisided civil war, and the American public overwhelmingly in favor of partial or full withdrawal. What happened?
Instead of installing some Shi’ite generalissimo figure, slightly more amenable to American interests, Bush naively tried to bring democracy to Iraq. Democracy presupposes a loyal opposition which, to say the least, is not in the Arab/Muslim tradition. I don’t question Bush’s motives for this, just his sanity. By insisting on a democratic Iraq, with full minority rights, friendly to Israel but not to Iran, he has managed to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory.
    The new Iraq will be:
Dominated by a Sadr-like Shi’ite faction, similar to the Iranian Mullah regime.
Sunnis ethnically cleansed out of Baghdad by Shi’ites and out of Mosul and Kirkuk by the Kurds.
A Sharia law state extremely unfriendly to Israel and the West.
In other words, everything the US didn’t want. They bit off more than they could chew with the democratization project and are now choking on the result.

  16. The troubles in Iraq,Afghanistan,ME etc.,will be difficult to subdue and control. But for those who think we should not be there,I ask what are the options? Surrender now rather than later? Negotiations with people who want everything and do not want to negotiate? Let the nation of islam do whatever they want without confrontation? These are not acceptable. If the left can come up with a possible solution they should let the rest of us know what it is.

  17. wallyj,
What happens in Afghanistan and Iraq is up to the Afghans and Iraqis. We should withdraw our troops as honorably as possible under the circumstances.
What we can do is follow the advice of the American-based Iraqi Shi’ite writer Khudayr Taher who recently called for a ban on all further Muslim immigration and for all Muslims in the West to be deported, even including himself. His logic being that such a large percentage of Muslims have no loyalty to the Western states in which they live, not to mention their support for terrorism, that bad Muslims cannot be accurately weeded out from the good ones, so they all must go if the West wants to survive. The logic of this brave man’s argument is unassailable: The Islamic world is waging a war against the West and no Muslim can be fully trusted in a time of war, not even him, a pro-American, pro-Western Muslim.
Khudayr Taher is also a former associate of Iraqi PM Maliki. He says that Maliki, George Bush’s man in Baghdad, is privately an anti-American and an Islamist. Meanwhile American troops are fighting and dying on behalf of an Iraqi goverment headed by an anti-American Islamist. That’s how ridiculous the Iraq war has become. Khudayr Taher is right: Total separation between the West and the Muslim world is the only way this war will be won.

“More importantly, we are fighting an enemy whose tactics are much more difficult to counter with the weapons and strategies that have worked in past wars.”
Herman, I respectfully disagree. In reality we are fighting the proxies of the real enemy. If we were to take the battle to the real enemy it would be to those nations who are supplying the *motivation*, manpower, materials and money to the *insurgent* groups and terrorists.
If a real and SERIOUS ultimatum were given to the likes of Iran, et al, “cease or else”, then “the weapons and strategies that have worked in past wars” would be most applicable. Also, they would be the most effective.
If the west continues in the present direction of the liberal left’s incessant capitulation to the real enemy then *collateral damage* is going to take on a whole new meaning.
Of course the outcome will be someone else’s fault.
