  1. More like genocide, yes?
    A little backgrounder.
The Khmer Rouge espoused a sort of “communism”, but the Killing Fields were part of a story that began long before the Viet Nam War. This site addresses the issue fairly well, if you’re interested.

  2. What do you mean by a sort of communism.Stalin practised that sort, Mao practised that sort, Fidel practised that sort. It’s only the intellectuals that practice a different sort until they’re into power!

  3. And let’s not forget the head of the national socialist party, our little buddy Adolf.
Google on “democide” if you like to read about this stuff from a less visual and more academic POV. There’s some prof who maintains a great site.

  4. Spike –
Don’t get me wrong, I hardly advocate communism in any of its manifestations. The Khmer Rouge philosophy was an ideological omelette.
    wordIQ Dictionary: Khmer Rouge
Anti-colonialism, Maoism, Stalinism, xenophobia and a hysteria driven by US bombing all contributed to the “democide” or “auto-genocide” in Cambodia. Their practices were so extreme that Communist Viet Nam invaded!
Ironically, the KR leaders were introduced to leftist anti-colonialism in French universities…at the same time that France was occupying Indochina.
