  1. intersting…yet so stupid. when a prime minister goes against the will of 90% of it’s people and then tries to blame the basques for the bombing against all logic…there tends to be a backlash at the polls-its called democracy.

  2. “Against all logic”?
You do know that ETA has been responsible for around 800 deaths through terrorist acts?
And that Turkey (did not go to Iraq), Saudi Arabia (did not go to Iraq), Bali (did not go to Iraq), and Morocco (did not go to Iraq) have all been attacked by Al Queda?
Which makes one wonder… if “secular” Baathist Iraq had no connection to Al Queda, or Islamofascist terrorism…
Why is Al Queda invoking terror in its name?

  3. well, against almost all logic. sure, the basques are assholes…but what exactly does that have to do with anything? the ETA has a easily recognised MO…the scandal is that the spanish intelligence and police immediatly saw that it was most likely al queda, then anzer and his people went out of their way to blame the basques in hope they would profit from the connection politically. it’s all well documented what happend. the cops actually blew the whistle on them for ignoring what they had been told by investigators. maybe instead of insta pundit, you should try BBC for your news?
something to remember is that anzer may well have been defeated in any case-the election was going to be very close before the bombing-like i said, 90% of the population were against going into iraq, and that was before it was shown that the bush people lied about the WMDs and al queda connections.
your reasoning is incredibly simplistic. If the bush admin could link secular baathists to al queda they wouldn’t have to make the links up as they have tried unsuccessfully over and over…
remember osama bin laden has in the past called for sadam’s head on a platter(issued fatwas against sadam and the baath party) and sadam used to merrily kill islamic extemists in iraq by the gross. the simple fact is, the islamic extremists are just as opportunistic as the bush admin…we attacked iraq, and we are the great satan-great for recruiting, great place to launch the final confrontation betwen the west and islam-we made it easy by lying about our reasons for going to iraq. same reason all those islamic fanatics ended up in afganistan fighting the russians, same reason a lot of them headed back to afganistan after 9/11. any attack on the “muslim world” is perfect for al queda. fits right into their world view. the cia warned bush that this would be the result of invading iraq. could the baathists be behind the attack in spain? who knows, but since the invasion of iraq was illegal and unjustified and killed at least 10,000 iraqi civilians, they would be within their rights to attack civilians in spain wouldn’t they? kind of like the brits and americans fire bombing tokyo and dresden wouldn’t it?….well maybe not, but thats why violence directed at civilians rarely works to solve problems.i note that the spanish socialists have stated repeatedly that they would stay in iraq if the UN was in there, and that they are still involved in the war on terror…
the reason saudi arabia was attacked might have to do with the fact that the saudi government is kept in power by the US ,is the basing area that so pissed off our ex employee osama (remember, infidels in mecca?)that he attacked the Cole, blew up the kobar towers in saudi…may have ordered 9/11…
turkey? secular government kept in power by the US, killed and displaced 100’s of thousands of kurds with weapons given to them by us…allowed all those cruise missle to overfly their territory…and of course we have air bases there. plus, they actually did mass their troops on the northern iraq boarder to further menace the kurds there.you need as always to look at the big picture.
bali? wasnt it the australians tourists that were the target in bali? remember, their government supported invading iraq, even sent troops, plus the islamofascists hate bare breasted aussie chicks on their beaches…I mean, the terrorists actually were glad to tell everyone why they did it.
morroco? I won’t say I know right off hand what the motive was there, but I bet i could figure it out with a couple minutes of research.ever try reading anything that doesn’t support your preconcieved opinions? ever tried to see if what rush and hannity and faux news and the rest say is even true?
the thing is, kate, the more you know about the mid east ,osama, iraq and the political situation in spain(where for years the US supported the franco regime as you may recall), the less it’s possible to support blanket statements such as “the spanish were on their knees on election day”.
