Punishment by Process

If you happen to be backing the wrong political horse, Canada appears to be regressing back to the Middle Ages where trial by ordeal was commonplace. It now looks like the justice system, or what passes for it these days, won’t be through with Tamara Lich for several more months.

Freedom Convoy personality Tamara Lich said Friday that her joint trial with Chris Barber has again recessed and she doesn’t expect the defense to begin summarizing its case until “hopefully 10 days in mid-March” 2024. That means a verdict shouldn’t be expected until at least the summer.

One should bear in mind that this trial began on the Tuesday after the Labor Day long weekend in September.

Prosecution for nothing

Canadian taxpayers ought to be livid that crown attorneys have wasted this much time on a trial that is clearly going nowhere.

An Ottawa police liaison officer testifying in the trial of Chris Barber and Tamara Lich agreed on Wednesday that none of the protesters he communicated with indicated they were participating in the “Freedom Convoy” because they were influenced by the high-profile organizers.

…he told the court there were multiple groups and factions attending the demonstrations.

Blonde said he believes that not all protesters had the same “wishes or desires,” but that they had the same “general reasoning” for demonstrating.

The Crown is seeking to prove that Lich and Barber exerted influence over protesters’ actions.

The Libranos: ArriveScam

“When you go with a deep dive into the particular story, it goes beyond misconduct. It goes into criminality. And that’s why the RCMP is investigating it,” he said during the meeting. “There are allegations regarding identity theft, fraudulent forged resumes, contractual theft, fraudulent billing, price fixing, collusion, all with senior bureaucrats with the Government of Canada and the three contractors in question.”

Stating the obvious

When you see media articles puzzling over how the pandemic seems to have made society less civil, you just have to wonder how brain dead someone must be not to have seen this coming.

A lot has happened in the time since March 2020, and some Canadians feel that one of the characteristics the country used to be known for – kindness – may no longer be an accurate stereotype.

They’ve turned to social media to ask whether anyone else has noticed society being “increasingly unkind” and “disrespectful” since the pandemic.

CTV is soliciting opinions in regard to this problem, but it’s unlikely anyone who strays from the narrative is going to see their thoughts publicized.

If It Looks Like A Rail And Smells Like Rail

It’s a railroad, Ma’am.

Hope that the trial of two Freedom Convoy organizers would last only four weeks may be dashed after the defence raised complaints about receiving heaps of new evidence three days after the trial began.

Justice Heather Perkins-McVey told the court there is a potential risk for the trial to go “off the rails,” if it continues to evolve in the way it has been going. She used the day of court time on Friday to try to “crystallize the evidence” for the remainder of the trial.

Before that, there was a sense of tension in the courtroom as Crown and defence lawyers sparred over the timing of the delivery of binders full of text messages.

The justice called a short recess to step away from the bench to “settle” herself after telling the lawyers she was “very unhappy” about the late-stage disclosure.

“This should have been done well before the trial,” she chided before leaving the courtroom.

He Admires Their Basic Dictatorship

National Post;

“We do not expect this to be the trial of the Freedom Convoy,” Lich and Barber’s lawyers said in a joint statement Friday.

“The central issue will be whether the actions of two of the organizers of a peaceful protest should warrant criminal sanction.”

Lich told a federal inquiry last year that when she told supporters to “hold the line,” she wasn’t encouraging them to stay in the capital, but rather to “stay true to your values in the face of adversity.”

The trial is expected to last at least 16 days, and is likely to include hundreds of social media posts by Lich, Barber and others, including videos that were livestreamed throughout the protest. Organizers used the live videos to document their experience and share thoughts and updates to supporters.

The court will likely also consider Barber’s private text messages with Lich, which were obtained by Ottawa police and entered as evidence by the Crown during one of Lich’s bail hearings last year. There is a publication ban on any messages regarding anyone other than Lich and Barber.

Because there’s always a publication ban.

One Flu Out Of The Wuhan Nest

The conspiracy theory turns spoiler alert.

After years of official pronouncements to the contrary, significant new evidence has emerged that strengthens the case that the SARS-CoV-2 virus accidentally escaped from the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV).

According to multiple U.S. government officials interviewed as part of a lengthy investigation by Public and Racket, the first people infected by the virus, “patients zero,” included Ben Hu, a researcher who led the WIV’s “gain-of-function” research on SARS-like coronaviruses, which increases the infectiousness of viruses.

More than three years after the pandemic’s outbreak, many around the world had given up on learning the origin of SARS-CoV-2, the highly infectious respiratory virus that has killed millions, and the response to which shut down businesses and schools, upended societies, and caused enormous collateral damage.

Public officials in the U.S. and other countries have repeatedly suggested that uncovering the pandemic’s origin may not be possible. “We may never know,” said Anthony Fauci, the former director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, who oversaw pandemic response for two administrations.

Now, answers increasingly look within reach. Sources within the US government say that three of the earliest people to become infected with SARS-CoV-2 were Ben Hu, Yu Ping, and Yan Zhu. All were members of the Wuhan lab suspected to have leaked the pandemic virus.

The answers were always “in reach” because they always had the answers, the “wet market” story a manufactured lie to cover their asses.

And, in a few months the lie will be completely forgotten and the narrative will shift to “Of course it was a lab leak, you crackpot. We never denied that possibility.”

The cycle of insanity

Apropos of pretty much nothing, the Tour de France has become trapped in a time warp. Apparently, a few participants have tested positive for Covid. None have dropped dead….yet. So just to be on the safe side….

The Tour de France organisers have drawn up a new COVID-19 protocol for this year’s race to try to limit the risk of infection inside the peloton, with riders, team staff and officials set to wearing face masks at sign-on and in the team paddock, while riders will be banned from signing autographs.

“For all the team members: Respect a confinement – Limit the interactions outside the race bubble. No eating out. Respect social distancing at the hotel.”

Lockdowns= “a global policy failure of gigantic proportions”

The data are in and it’s about as ugly as it gets.

This paper should be mandatory reading for every politician, bureaucrat, health care worker, media pundit and wanna be tinpot dictator out there. We should never, NEVER go through anything like this again.

Institute of Economic Affairs- Did lockdowns work? The verdict on Covid restrictions

COVID-19 lockdowns were “a global policy failure of gigantic proportions,” according to this peer-reviewed new academic study. The draconian policy failed to significantly reduce deaths while imposing substantial social, cultural, and economic costs.

The comprehensive 220-page book, began with a systematic review of 19,646 potentially relevant studies. For their meta-analysis, the authors’ screening resulted in the choice of 22 studies that are based on actual, measured mortality data, not on results derived from modelling exercises. A meta-analysis is considered the ‘gold-standard’ for evidence, as it combines comparable, independent studies to determine overall trends.

back in the halcyon days of the 90’s, a young bill clinton played to perfection a certain form of crisis/criticism response:

deny, deny, deny, it’s old news.

the goal was simple: you lie and lie and lie some more. you do not expect to get away with it in the long run. you expect to get away with it long enough for people to stop caring and for it to become “old news.” and unfortunately, it works. well. because humans have the memory of goldfish and by the time it’s clear you were telling porkie pies, everyone is onto the next thing and no one cares anymore.

the modern version would seem to be:

it’s misinformation, it’s misinformation, it’s misinformation, it’s old news.
