How Unfortunate

Britain believes they need those stinkin’ giant fans and has been carpeting the landscape with them. However

New figures published by The Sunday Telegraph show that 2010 was, by one authoritative measure, the least windy year since 1824.

The lack of wind is caused by global warming, I’d guess.

What Would Tony Stark Do?

Stability%20for%20growth.jpg
The above chart shows a 20 year rolling average in RGDP growth contrasted with the 20 year rolling average standard deviation of that growth.
English translation – Economic growth is going down, BUT so is the volatility of the growth. It implies we’re sacrificing economic growth for increased stability.
Why?
Regulation
Increased taxation
Larger public sector
Feminization
Equalization
Wealth transfers
Tony Stark would never make it in this economic environment.

Does SDA Get Results?

Perhaps I am spoiled being an American being accustomed to my freedom of speech, but it angers me (whether you agree with Geert Wilders or not) is the fact he’s being persecuted for voicing his opinion.
Last I recall my grandfather fought in the Netherlands to free them from the nazi’s and I if I remember history correctly as well, the Canadians also helped in the liberation of the Netherlands from tyranny (not to mention they keep fielding excellent snipers).
I doubt I would do the same today.
Regardless, today in the blogosphere there is a movement to make posts, articles, etc. about Geert Wilders. The problem is they’re just posts that voice support for him or at least his right to speak his mind. That achieves nothing. I find it much easier to just contact the people prosecuting him and remind them we may not send waves of our boys over next time.

It’s Called “Crusaderism”

As an addendum (sp?) to EBD’s post below it’s called “Crusaderism.”
It’s a mental condition that fully explains the leftist mind, in particular activists’ mentalities.
This is a LONG series posted before, but I strongly recommend watching the whole thing (martini pouring officially allowed). But if you want the real quick jist of it, the 3:10 and 5:00 minute marks more or less explains it.
The beginning of this segment actually does a good job linking worthless degrees to these crusades.

Black Markets Form in the Funniest Places

Oh the irony.
Britain makes it legal for women to track down sperm donors for child support.
Women who obviously didn’t study economics (and are presumably of more of the leftist leaning types to have children without fathers) now resort to an underground market whereby they get illicit sperm to impregnate themselves.
I love it when feminists shoot themselves in the foot.
ht and blunt analysis (though I warn thee, it is very crass).

Arabs killing Arabs

I’m not sure I believe this story, but it’s always interesting how little anyone cares about what Arabs do to Palestinians:

Egyptian forces pumped gas into a cross-border tunnel used to smuggle goods into the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, killing four Palestinians, Hamas officials said.
“This is a terrible crime committed by Egyptian security against simple Palestinian workers who were trying to earn their daily bread,” Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum to The Associated Press. “It was a killing in cold blood. Hamas and all the Palestinian people condemn it strongly.”

Greece Saved!

Those who thought Greece’s problem was that they didn’t have enough debt can rejoice! They’ve generously agreed accept a 120 billion Euro “rescue package”. This should work about as well as IMF involvement in Argentina in the 1990s, after which they concluded:

The IMF should refrain from entering or maintaining a program relationship with a member country when there is no immediate balance of payments need and there are serious political obstacles to needed policy adjustment or structural reform.

Greece hasn’t even begun to balance their budget and they show no inclination to accept the changes really needed. If Greece can’t face their current debt why would anyone think pushing the problem down the road three years and making it bigger would be a solution? Madness.

Coulter “Mobbed” at Ottawa U

When I heard Coulter was coming to Canada I figured attending the event would be worth the entertainment value, if for nothing other than to witness the unhinged reaction that was sure to follow. Ottawa U didn’t disappoint.
When I arrived there was a line of a few hundred, maybe a thousand people outside the Marion building. A few of them were chanting in front of the cameras but the line was otherwise better behaved than for a typical rock concert. The size of the line was no doubt a bit of a problem because the room held no more than 400 (my estimate).
Since I had registered for the event ahead of time I had no trouble elbowing my way to the front, verifying my name was on the list, getting inside and chatting briefly with Ezra Levant.
After a while the fire alarm went off, the obvious false alarm having been dealt with we sat down expecting the event to start.

Now is the time at SDA when we Juxtapose!

Obama administration publicly dresses down Israel:

“The announcement of the settlements on the very day that the vice president was there was insulting,” (Hillary) said. “I mean, it was just really a very unfortunate and difficult moment for everyone — the United States, our vice president, who had gone to reassert America’s strong support for Israeli security — and I regret deeply that that occurred.”

Meanwhile Palestinians hold a ceremony naming a square after Fatah terrorist:

Despite the Palestinian Authority’s announcement that it had postponed the inauguration of a square in el-Bireh named after Dalal Mughrabi, the Fatah woman who led the 1978 Coastal Road massacre in which 37 Israeli civilians and an American photographer were killed, and 71 were wounded, Fatah officials on Thursday evening went ahead with the ceremony.

And in related news, another day in the Islamic world, another rampage against Christians:

Muslims attacked a community center and burned several homes belonging to Coptic Christians in northwestern Egypt over the weekend, injuring 23 people, in a rampage that a local bishop said was incited by a radical Muslim preacher.
