My Dad just turned 94 on November 12. He served in the RCAF until he retired, which included service in bomber command in England during WW II. I was so disgusted with the comments by Greg Selinger I sent him the following email on November 11.

"Allowing students to opt out of Remembrance Day services is a matter of religious freedom, says Premier Greg Selinger."

It is the veteran, not the preacher, who has given you freedom of religion.
It is the veteran, not the reporter, who has given you freedom of the press.
It is the veteran, not the poet, who has given you freedom of speech.
It is the veteran, not the protester, who has given you freedom to assemble.
It is the veteran, not the lawyer, who has given you the right to a fair trial.
It is the veteran, not the politician, who has given you the right to vote.
It is the veteran, who salutes the Flag, who serves under the Flag, whose coffin is draped by the Flag.

Remembrance Day is NOT a religious exercise, it is to honour those who gave their lives so we could have religious freedom. They also fought and died so we could have the freedom of expression, freedom of the press, freedom to assemble, the right to a fair trial, and the RIGHT TO VOTE.

For you to declare that allowing students to opt out of Remembrance Day services is a matter of religious freedom shows you have absolutely no grasp of why thousands of Canadian service men and women fought and died for those freedoms. I for one will NOT opt out of any of those freedoms for any reason. As a politician you will be given a fair trial when the voting public in your riding exercise their "Right to Vote" during the next provincial election. Hopefully they will "Remember".

Remembrance Day is for those who have fallen on behalf of their country. The Canadian Forces don't discriminate on the basis of your faith, should you make the ultimate sacrifice for your nation.

In short, some are willing to make the ultimate sacrifice, regardless of religion, even when their leaders behave like idiots.

Harper was born in 1959, Wall in 1965 making their parents likely to be born in around 1934 and 1940 , not late spawners such as yourself. makes them as unlikely candidates for WW2 or Korea . my father was born in 1927 and though enlisted in Canada did not go to korea though of age.
