Why Are Single Women So Attracted to the Party of Victimhood?

Countless polls that unmarried women consistently support Barack Obama much more than they do Mitt Romney. An obvious question is: Why?

The NY Times' conservative columnist, Ross Douthat, goes into great detail to provide a pseudo-psychological explanation that these women - even though they endlessly profess to be independent feminists - are really nothing more than hapless princesses who view Obama as their rescuing knight in shining armour.

... tomorrow’s feminists may look back on his campaign’s pitch to women and see a different theme emerge: a weirdly paternalistic form of social liberalism, in which women are forever single girls and the president is their father, lover, fiancé and paladin all rolled into one.

... the idea of Obama as a kind of knight protector for America’s Julias and Lenas and Sandras, waging a lonely counteroffensive in the war on women, has basically become the White House’s concluding pitch not only to his base, but to female undecided voters as well.

Because they're stupid.

How ironic -- and batshit crazy -- that Lena, Sandra, and Julia expect that Prince Obama will take care of them when he totally relies on, and can't do anything without, Valerie Jarrett and Michelle Obama.

'Delusional eedjits.

The Times has a conservative columnist?

Single parent families may be part of the know those ones the product of a biased court system whereby custody mostly goes/went to the woman and in so many cases the absentee father was continually harassed(while being banished to a bsmnt suite) with little money and a bleak future and so it hurt so bad that he finally gave up.
Another could be the dumbing down of the male in all things hollywood and dumb men taking the metrosexual route.

There's so many possible reasons...close your eyes and take a pick.

They are single for the same reason they are supporting Obama: neurotic, needy, and stupid.

Anybody who played the dating game in the late 50's/early 60's knows all this badboy/shining knight stuff by heart.

Posted by: glenn at October 29, 2012 7:11 PM

I think its the Bill Clinton effect...they are just all swooning at the thought of being abused like Monica Lewinsky.

Isn't there something unethical about sex for votes...or does that make the prospective candidate for President a pimp? (cf Lena Dunham ad)

Furthermore, the article is clearly racist, because you can't have a WHITE KNIGHT when the "Obama-Nation(tm)" is clearly mulatto...

Lastly, the "Obama-Nation(tm)" can't be a knight in shining armour rescuing damsels in distress; when he can't even save his own SEALs. I rather suspect that the "Obama-Nation(tm)'s" armour is rather rusty having failed to even make it out of the Lybian surf on the salt laden Mediterranean Sea.

The "Obama-Nation(tm)" would appear more like a golfer in an over-sized Lybian sand trap with the putting green somewhere over a distant horizon.

The first two comments at the link sure aren't complimentary to the writer,"another Limbaugh"... .."the war on women started by the Republicans in the 50's"...

I think Hans captured the mentality of these women very well in his first sentence,.."swooning at the thought of being abused like Monica Lewinsky."

I'd bet if anyone took a poll, most Democrat women and probably a good number of the men would answer "YES!" to that question!

If he's going after the widow vote, he's got it all wrong. Some of us cranky old biddies had to work for our lucre, or else saw husbands work to support families, so we're not anxious to support spoiled entitled little babies looking for a sugar daddy.

I am a single female and despise all politicians. I do not vote.

Under the present administration, the obvious explanation is that they have fallen for that old saw:
"Once you go black..."

Posted by: Mark Matis at October 29, 2012 8:02 PM

A couple of reasons.

1)Lots of men on the conservative side are, well, read the above statements and other posts. All the terrible things they had heard about conservative would be verified at SDA. Retrogrades are not a great selling point to attract young females to conservatism. Once women get older, they marry men and they work with men in the real world. They realize that this repulsive bravado is merely pathetic posturing to fit in to a group.

2)Young women do not have a solid sense of self. You don't come out or public school and university with a strong education in libertarian (or classic liberal) philosophy. Neither do young men but they cover it up with aggression and false confidence (they also tend towards the progressive vote, BTW). Again, in time many move towards the right as life experience replaces programming.

Women have a psychological need to be taken care of. Single women look to the Daddy State to do that for them in the absence of a real father or husband.

A corollary of this is that women shouldn't vote.

I think Richard Fish from Ally McBeal sums it up nicely:

"Personally, I hate sexual harassment laws. The original force behind them were disgruntled lesbians who felt they were not given the same opportunities. Along with ugly women, who are jealous of pretty women who got all the breaks in the work force. My cause to action is simple, women are victims. They need special help. Look, at the evolution of these sexual harassment laws. What we are really saying is women really should qualify under the Federal Disablity Act. They are less able. They cannot cope with romance in the office. They cannot contend with having to do a job and have a man smile at them. It is too much. Look where we use to be, first quid pro quo, then hostile enviorment, and now Sienfeld episodes. Women can't take it they bruise too easily. The laws are here to protect the weak and most vulernable in society. She is woman, protect her!"

Here's another goodie:

"Georgia, give me your shoe. Why would a grown person wear these? They are hugely uncomfortable, make it easier to fall, cause back problems, but, hey -- call it fashion. What kind of person would spend an equivalent of two years painting her face and plucking out her eyebrows, and putting silicone or saline in her chest? There is a name for this kind of person, 'woman'. Why? Because, we 'men' like it. Don't talk to me about equality. Don't tell me you aren't disabled."

I think Women look at government as a better more reliabledFather than Men these days. Of course they helped create the kind of boys today.

Posted by: Revnant Dream at October 29, 2012 9:42 PM

Women are hardwired to desire material security. Our culture has become perverted and contorted to the extent that the State now fulfills that role in very many instances. I think the writer of the linked article was not off base to say that the State has become a surrogate father-husband, a general purpose provider.

Posted by: Rhc at October 29, 2012 8:38 PM

... ... ...

you missed the point

the women who vote for Obama see themselves as independent women but they are not; they vote for being supported by a provider that replaces the husband ;

the state has replaced the supportive provider-husband

( not going to make a list but one example; they want the state to pay for the pill! )

they are still very dependent women

they can not see the " dissonance" and that is why they are stupid.

While here in Florida have been watching TV campaign commercials and one which seems to be repeated particularly often is how Romney is going to eliminate planned parenthood and free access to abortion.

The fact that this is even an issue is astounding. Considering that a condom costs about 50 cents, sex is one of the cheapest forms of entertainment around. Somehow those of us who grew up during the sexual revolution managed to remember about contraception even while in a severe state of inebriation and never expected the government to have any role in this matter.

Women, as a group, are definitely less libertarian than men. Despite their seeming "liberation", women on the whole still expect to have someone take care of them whereas men are much more likely to assume that it's up to them individually to deal with things. It doesn't help that the average male in a large city was functionally emasculated by the educational system which is geared towards women.

The only way to deal with this female attraction to the state is to destroy the totalitarian state and to eliminate the metrosexual male. I've been lucky in knowing many women who are self-sufficient and libertarian leaning, but one of the things that I've found almost invariably stirs up discord is being frank in my political views with female medical colleagues. One would think that female physicians would be self-sufficient but they're all for the nanny state. At least they now know what my opinion of these views is.

Go read this brief thing here:

Then come back and ask me again if we are kidding.

BTW, its "they're" not "their". Contraction of "they are", rather than "belonging to them". Not normally a grammar Nazi, but this is just too skeevy to let pass. Conjugation of verbs not taught in modern universities?

Bottom line, most single women would rather answer to BIG BROTHER(who makes all the excuses for her and never never holds her responsible) than to Daddy, Hubby, or an actual real brother.
