How's That Hopey-Changey Thing Working Out For Ya?

Michael Barone;

I’ve been to 22 Democratic and Republican National Conventions in one way, shape or form (see my reflections in this August 25 Wall Street Journal piece) and I’ve been on the floor in 17 of them. So naturally on arriving in Charlotte, I wanted to see the floor of the 18th. So I went over to the Times-Warner Center (the Charlotte Convention Center, like the Tampa Convention Center, houses the press; the convention in each case is in a basketball/hockey arena). And I have one word to report to you. Tiny! Bill Plante of CBS News, who started attending conventions in 1968, when he lugged baggage for Mike Wallace at the Republicans’ convention in Miami Beach, agreed with me that it was the tiniest convention floor he’s ever seen.

Well, this will turn things around.

Related: Clint Eastwood was right.

The Democrats keep letting the Marxist cat out of the bag. First "You did not build that business",and now "Government Is The Only Thing We All Belong To".

When asked to grade himself on his first term, BO gave himself an "incomplete".

If he compared himself to previous presidents, he sure had to have moved himself way up the bell curve to give himself that generous a mark.

What statist BS!! Government is the one thing we all belong to

I certainly don't belong to any government and I think the blowback in the US from this statement is going to be orders of magnitude greater than if a Canadian politician had uttered that statement.

Together with You didn't build that, this is shaping up to be a surreal campaign where the Obozo camp is so out of touch with reality that it thinks it can change reality through use of the proper incantations repeated over and over. Post-modernist magical thinking at its finest.

Let me change that statement for you: government is a necessary evil paid for by our taxes and it does what we tell it to do. Also, it should be kept as small as possible and any budding dictator should be reminded of why the 2nd Amendment of the US constitution exists. Clint Eastwood's empty chair routine has shown up the naked self-declared emperor in a manner that everyone can understand. All that Obozo's followers seem to be able to do is to produce more and more statist BS that the people are now no longer falling for.

Now to do something useful like donate $100 to the NRA so it can publicize the Republican position on gun rights such as proposals for CCW holders to be able to carry in other states. The best metaphor for the future of this affirmative action administration is the sand statue of Obozo disintegrating in the rain

It is amazing how effective Harry Callahan's speech was Thursday night. There are three things now that haunt Obama 1. You did not build that 2. you own this country. 3. a empty chair.

The best part is listening to the Democrats line up to dump on Clint Eastwood. I am sure that is a winning formula.

The republicans may have been apprehensive Thursday night but they have to admit Eastwood damaged the bamster more then the rest of them combined.

Loki, that was said much better than I could have. These people are coming right out into the open with the real "hope and change" they are hoping to implement.

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at September 5, 2012 12:31 AM

In school incomplete at the end the term = fail. Obama would know that unless he had special assistants help him get through courses in university.

Government is the only thing we all belong to

Wow oh Wow oh Wow!

I realize the positive theme of commonality amongst all Americans that the writer of that line must have had but it is a faux pas of the highest order imaginable.

It really is both shocking & appalling that some people still look up to poorly run offices like the Dept. of Motor Vehicles where it's pretty much impossible to get fired no matter how severe your incompetence. I'm aware that there are good, intelligent people who exist in government offices but how dysfunctional they must be with all the incompetent dullards infesting them too.

Please Americans, don't make the same mistake as Albertans did and stick with the status quo!

Posted by: Robert W. (Vancouver) at September 5, 2012 12:57 AM

Loki and Robert W hit the nail on the head.

"Government is the only thing we all belong to."

Silly me, I thought the we Americans were brought together by our common heritage and our founding beliefs expressed in the Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence. Now the democrat party tells me I am owned by the government? I suppose their view is,

One People, One Government, One Leader!

Or as it was stated previously, "Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Fuehrer!" The Democrats think this is a winning view? They better get their heads straight or this will end as badly as the original. (Sorry for going Godwin.)

Ken, you actually were first with the ideas as there were no posts when I began to compose mine. The fact that the same ideas came so readily to both of us suggests that this might be the Dumbocrats "let them eat cake" moment.

Posted by: Loki at September 5, 2012 2:48 AM

My mother in law had it on in the living room last night. Every time I left my office to do or get something, somebody on the podium was talking about a) gay marriage and b) reproductive rights.

Every time.

Joe Biden was correct.

'Government is the one thing we all belong to'.

they shall put your ass in chains.

Twice

Posted by: Fearless Leader at September 5, 2012 7:43 AM

That statement can be understood two different ways:

1. We are all part of the gov't much like a civil servant...or

2. The government is the "massa" and we are its slaves. (ie. they own us)

The first is patently ridiculous...the second is damning...

I just can't understand how some people still "believe" in this crap that Bam Bam is trying to spew forth? I just don't get it. Please voters, look at this election Re: Economics. Who can run a business or helps families. Barack Hussein Obama or Mitt Romney? My vote goes for the man that HAS business sense and that is not Barack Hussein Obama.
Think about it please before this "hope & change" goes any further. Obama has been a disaster. Think Amnesty, think TRILLIONS in debt, PLEASE just think.

'Looks like the National Review Online site has been hacked.

This is the message you get when you open the site:

Does anyone know what this actually means? I tried to open Jonah Goldberg's article on Michelle Obama's sick-making speech and it's been hacked. I left the site immediately!

You know the Leftards are getting desperate when they have to revert to hacking sites on the Right: here, it's Sun Media, there, it's National Review.

It's going to be a nasty fight, with the Left fighting dirty. Is anyone surprised?

Looks like the DNC convention get lousier every day.
From obsessive Homosexual cant. To aged Slut walkers.
Abortion worshipers mingling with those with a mono government fetish. Users with abusers of other peoples hard earned cash. Human lice.
I wish them all the same as my granny used too. Don't let the bed bugs bite.

Posted by: Revnant Dream at September 5, 2012 8:46 AM

Well, that video, which the Democrats can't deny, since they had it onstage, never mind who produced it, is fascist. To subsume the individual into a government is a fascist mode.

I haven't and won't watch the DNC but read that Michelle Obama's speech was classic Appeal to Pity. She told the audience that Obama's 'hair had gone grey, lines on his face, bags under his eyes'. All due, she said, to His worry about the troubles of His People.

Jonah Goldberg on the National Review wrote that her speech achieved its goal, of firing up the emotional base. But, that doesn't necessarily translate to votes.

However, the Democratic campaign is becoming slightly clearer. They are defining themselves as a continuation of Clinton's era; with the Bush years defined as 'the Set Back', and the Obama era as 'getting us back to the Clinton mode.

Obama is being defined as working himself into aged collapse to achieve this. And taxation is being defined as charity. I repeat; taxation is being defined as charity made from your thankfulness at being American.

Neat. He takes no responsibility; all blame is on Bush, ignoring that the Democrats controlled Congress from 2007 and set up that Housing Collapse...ignoring Obama's wild spending on the unions and his attacks against small businesses.

That's quite a redefinition of reality, but the left doesn't live in reality. Will Americans opt for fiction yet again?

Posted by: ET at September 5, 2012 9:35 AM

The DNC is now trying to separate itself from the video. But as ET points out, the DNC approved it for play.
'The government is the only thing we belong to.'
Compare that with Clint's 'We own the government.'
If that doesn't show a marked contrast between sheep and independent thinkers, nothing does.

Yeah well that's a "never-ya-mind"......

Godwin's Law ain't nothin but a way for lefties to avoid the truth.

I concur with your post.

There's something else to think about.

Michelle Obama, in her Appeal to Pity, told us that Obama was 'going grey, getting lines on his face', working so hard and worrying so much for His people. Now wait a minute.

Didn't Obama disparage and sneer at those who work hard? Didn't he belittle it with his comment of 'So? We all work hard. We're all smart. But You (with your hard work and your smarts) didn't built that'. Did he do that? And now, he claims that we are supposed to support him because he says HE works hard?

And what about her claims that Obama says we must all 'give to others'. Romney has plenty of examples and hard data of that. Obama? He gives less than 1% (compare with Romney's 10%) to charity. Oh, and he utterly and totally ignores his half brother in Kenya who can't even afford to medically look after his children, and ignores his illegal aunt in the US, living on welfare. Hmmm.

I wuz thinkin' fer a while thet it would be the OWS rioting when Obozo loses....but consider this....what if he wins...

I hear banjos....

The Bonney Blue Flag may be heard agin'.

The Logo looks soviet and now the motto sounds worse... one people, one government, one leader. It may take them a while to reduce it to those words but the sentiment is exactly the same a when old Adolf spoke at his rally... They have forgotten what it is to be an American. Don't tread on me! you lousy Democrats.
