Shouldn't the cost be reported to Elections Canada as a paid political broadcast on behalf of the NDP?

Posted by: Loyalist at August 30, 2012 1:14 PM

Great! Just bloody great!
Maybe PSAC and all the other "sponsors" of the illegal $344,000 + that the NDP had to return (without criminal charges, RCMP raid, and CBC camera crews in tow) could just send that money to the government to reimburse us for the canonization of Saint Jack of the Velvet Touch.

Unreal!

The funny part is I already had to think for second who this guy was, a couple of more years and I'll have to look it up, a few after that and I'll stop at NDP, laugh with a who gives a damn, and move on.

"Rub & Tug" Layton?

Posted by: mojo at August 30, 2012 1:44 PM

I know saying this socialists will get their undies in swirl but Jack Layton, god rest his soul, is the most over-inflated, exagerated and accomplishing nothing politico since Barack Hussein Obama.... I'm surprised they didn't hurl an unworthy Nobel prize in his honour just to make it a slam dunk. People need to read more and understand more before they become journalists for cripes sakes.

Posted by: dave at August 30, 2012 1:45 PM

Even in death Layton was still firmly affixed to the crusty nozzle of the public teat.

Seeing my tax money footed the bill to send this Marxist back to that great rub and tug in the sky, I demand his corpse be exhumed so that it may be autopsied so that that I can know what I paid for.

I want to know if he was "poisoned" like Arafat was.

Posted by: Eskimo at August 30, 2012 1:49 PM

He's gone to the socialist hereafter and is likely working as a minor functionary somewhere deep in the bureaucracy of the United Nations.

Posted by: wyatt ironbridge at August 30, 2012 1:53 PM

Jack! love you long time!

Somewhat less than that spent on freeloading rural conservative welfare bum farmers every hour of every day, year after year after bloodsucking year.

Posted by: phil at August 30, 2012 2:09 PM

1 cent per Canadian, 1 cent.

I am shocked.

Posted by: Quebecois NDP separatiste at August 30, 2012 2:26 PM

Phil you have got to be kiddding yourself, that man and his wife have been on the teat since before it was de trop to eat meat. Year after bloodsucking year...

Posted by: The Grey Lady at August 30, 2012 2:43 PM

Still one cent too much, Quebecoistard.

Posted by: Michael Harkov at August 30, 2012 2:52 PM

Somewhat less than that spent on freeloading rural conservative welfare bum farmers every hour of every day, year after year after bloodsucking year.

And yet, Philtard, still less than that spent on freeloading urban liberal welfare bum government workers every hour of every day, year after year after bloodsucking year.

Posted by: Michael Harkov at August 30, 2012 2:54 PM

What convinced Stephen Harper it was expedient to have the Queen pay for the funeral, and how he convinced the Queen to do it, only they will ever know. They had to have known the remains of the old communist didn't even merit a Christian burial. St. James' cemetery? The Toronto sewer system was the best final resting place his ashes deserved.

Why, pray, why do Canadians permit the glorification and building of monuments to the Queen's enemies?

Big difference. You're referring to compensation for services rendered ( a wage, for work), I'm talking about out and out welfare, an entitlement courtesy of the taxpayer for absolutely nothing. Yeah, I know, yahoos hate working people. That explains you, it doesn't excuse you.

Posted by: phil at August 30, 2012 3:11 PM

Hey, Kwee-beck NDP Traitor....you opinion don't mean $hit.

Posted by: Eskimo at August 30, 2012 3:12 PM

Cheap at the price.
Think how much he'd have cost us if he'd lived.

And think of the side benefit for all of us.
He pi$$ed away taxpayer dollars every day of his political life. Now we know where we can go to have a public urination festival on him.

Posted by: cgh at August 30, 2012 3:13 PM

1 cent per Canadian? I've heard that one before. It's how lefties justify subsidizing useless artists who have no talent. It's how the liberals justified the useless gun registry. It's how the left justifies every cause they champion. If they try to justify their BS with how few pennies it costs each of us it is a red flag that tells me that it is another waste of our tax money. If the left wants money for one of their useless BS causes they should try having a bake/yard sale. Unless, of course, that is too much work for them.

My dream was, that they render old Lizzy May down for the grease/oil to cremate that S.O.B.. That way, there wouldn't be such a carbon footprint.. think of the children..

~Quebecois NDP separatiste

You must be under the mistaken impression that all Canadians pay taxes or that your province and several others aren't net recipients of the transfer payments Alberta and Saskatchewan make.

No Quebecker, his funeral was paid for by the people who wouldn't have voted for him or the NDP.
It wasn't 1 cent per Canadian at all.

Posted by: Oz at August 30, 2012 4:03 PM

Quite right Oz.

I won't be holding my breath waiting for a wealthy band of NDP types to pony up a few hundred thou to defray the cost of Jack's final junket.

It ain't going to happen.

Posted by: wallyj at August 30, 2012 4:17 PM

I believe Mr.Harper offerred the State Funeral for Saint Jack because he knew that the NDP would forever be in thrall of Jack's public image,so no other Leader will quite match up.

The NDP are still "Jack's Party",but I don't expect Jack to show up for the debates in 2015.

By that time, most of the Canadian public will have become aware that Saint Jack is NOT coming back, and if they DO vote NDP,they'll be voting for a Leader unworthy of the mantle of Saint Jack,no matter who it is.

I DO wonder what the cost of the CBC lovefest film, "Smilin' Rub 'n Tug Jack" will be. Of course, the Bill will be footed,as always, by the good old Canadian taxpayer.

Posted by: dmorris at August 30, 2012 4:36 PM

Services at the rub&tug: $100.

State funeral for Layton: $368,000.

Not having to put up with the jerk any more: priceless.

Posted by: gordinkneehill at August 30, 2012 5:15 PM

Hey, isn't that about the same amount that the NDP under Layton was caught fraudulently receiving in campaign donations from the Unions during the last election?
I think Elections Canada said it was about $344,000.00.

Lemme see, let's do the Socialist math on the those numbers:

$368,326.00 in Layton's funeral costs, minus $344,000.00 in illegal campaign donations, equals $24,326.00. The Government still owes Jack Layton and the NDP $24,326.00, using Socialist math.

(Boy, that could be a heck of a lot debt passed on to our future generations if Harper doesn't pay up right away -- the NDP might claim that according to the Charter of Rights and Freedoms Layton has the right to collect compounded interest on it for all eternity in Hades!)

Posted by: ricardo at August 30, 2012 5:48 PM

There is nothing funny about what Jack Layton did in life .... and nothing NOT funny about mocking him... for all eternity.

Posted by: OMMAG at August 30, 2012 6:00 PM

I think we should give the old commie a break - he did have the good manners to die before he could screw the country completely.

Posted by: kakola at August 30, 2012 8:32 PM

The Nobel Prize committee forever soiled the Peace prize by giving it to the Zero. PMSH has forever soile a "state" funeral for a leftist a&^hole, who never made the requirments for a state funeral, same as Obozo never earned a "peace" prize.
If we do erect(play on word's,Kate?) a plaque to the plague Rub'n'Tug,even the pigeons wouldn't shat on it.

Posted by: Justthinkin at August 30, 2012 8:44 PM

"Philtard" LOL! What planet are you from?

Posted by: Rocky View Redneck at August 30, 2012 8:45 PM

Although it might be great fun to hand phil a verbal slapdown now and then, it is an exercise in futility. Witness his lame attempt to inject his favourite subject into a discussion about the unremarkable Jack Layton and subsequent nausea inducing events as a result of his passing.

Any attempt at intelligent debate with phil is analogous to discussing the pros and cons of the designated hitter rule with a house plant.

Posted by: biffjr. at August 30, 2012 9:25 PM

I guess some people do take it with them, or at least other peoples money.

Posted by: Revnant Dream at August 30, 2012 10:09 PM

"State funeral for late NDP leader Jack Layton cost $368,326".But vaseline only costs $3.99.

I'm just saying.....

Posted by: eastern paul at August 30, 2012 10:51 PM

instead of a plaque how to honour Jack how about a port-a-potty, much more appropriate

Posted by: observer53 at August 30, 2012 11:14 PM

Someone should market a little plastic Taliban Jack figurine that comes with it's own little coffin.

The loyal can bury it in their backyard ... or in the case of very devote NDP supporters, in someone else's backyard. Then every year they can dig it up and show their love for Taliban Jack. Hold me, I'm getting tears.

Posted by: ∞² at August 30, 2012 11:41 PM

Seems to me that it was money well spent, since Jack will not emerge from his final resting place.

Posted by: bob at August 30, 2012 11:44 PM

Make that "very devout NDP"

Posted by: ∞² at August 31, 2012 12:13 AM

@ ∞², or have little busts they can put in their houses like the Russians did for Lenin and Stalin. It would be like an icon.

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at August 31, 2012 12:14 AM

That should have said Russian communists.

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at August 31, 2012 12:15 AM

we could make little bobblehead jscks .on tripods , two legs and a cane for the modest , two legs and a front prop for those less.

Taliban Jack. on the taxpayers dime even in death.

See, that is the trouble with leftards like you; you invariably have NO idea EVER what you are talking about.
