The Sound Of Settled Science

Current theories of the causes and impact of global warming have been thrown into question by a new study which shows that during medieval times the whole of the planet heated up.

It then cooled down naturally and there was even a 'mini ice age'.

A team of scientists led by geochemist Zunli Lu from Syracuse University in New York state, has found that contrary to the ‘consensus’, the ‘Medieval Warm Period’ approximately 500 to 1,000 years ago wasn’t just confined to Europe.

In fact, it extended all the way down to Antarctica – which means that the Earth has already experience global warming without the aid of human CO2 emissions.

- Frustrated by the lack of computer-predicted warming over the past decade, some IPCC supporters have been claiming that “extreme weather” has become more common because of more CO2. But there is no hard evidence this is true. [...] Weather conditions similar to 2012 occurred in the winter of 1942, when the U.S. Midwest was unusually warm, and when the Wehrmacht encountered the formidable forces of “General Frost” in a Russian winter not unlike the one Russians just had.

Strong Gore Pauchari Suzuki and their ilk had a good run, millions were stolen from gullible govt's and stupid citizens, treasuries have been emptied causing financial collapses around the world, that is what they wanted. There needs to be charges and fraud convictions, think of the charities and medical research that could have been funded with all this stolen money. This was a SCAM from the start, a "convienient truth" to load the principles bank accounts, and it worked for them.

Funny. The warmest day in Edmonchuk since records have been kept was +18c...in 1886. Damn. Guess them horses/cows where screwing everything up,driving everywhere they went!
It sure says a lot about our "education" system that people still fall for this crap. OR,it shows how successful the commi/socialists who call themselves "teachers" are in the striving for a one gibermint commie world.Whoever said we won the cold war was lying through their teeth!

Just for the record, their research indicated that the MWP was present in the antarctic peninsula. As all the warmists are so quick to point out, this does not mean that the MWP was worldwide, only that it was present in Europe, and now the antarctic peninsula.

"IPCC supporters have been claiming that “extreme weather” has become more common because of more CO2"

I had a radiator hose pop on the way to the AGW deniers convention - that must be global warming as well.

I'm still awaiting with bated breath for the warmists to explain how the Antarctic Ice Sheet melts at -30C......

Justthinkin "The warmest day in Edmonchuk since records have been kept was +18c...in 1886"

For the record +18C is not the record warmest day in Edmonton. It might be the record warm for today.

Of course, during the middle ages we didn't have billions upon billions of tons of CO2 being pumped into the atmospshere every year like we do now, but I'm sure everyone will ignore that inconvenient fact when spewing their diatribes against the global warming hoax. It's just an irrelevant fact that means nothing and can't possibly have any impact on the world whatsoever.

Anyways, this isn't a hill to die on as no one really knows what the future holds and we won't know until it arrives. The world has been encased in ice and the world has been a massive desert. Things change and we will have to adapt or die one way or another sooner or later. I think this much, we can all agree on (except for you contrary types who are contrary simply for the sake of being contrary. I'd recognized you types because I'm one myself now and again. Why agree when you can disagree? It's WAAAY more fun anyways!)

Peace. Out. You crazy kids!

and don't forget the ozone...

Abstract

The strong sensitivity of the Earth's radiation balance to variations in the lower stratospheric ozone – reported previously – is analyzed here by the use of non-linear statistical methods. Our non-linear model of the land air temperature (T) – driven by the measured Arosa total ozone (TOZ) – explains 75% of total variability of Earth's T variations during the period 1926–2011. We have analyzed also the factors which could influence the TOZ variability and found that the strongest impact belongs to the multi-decadal variations of galactic cosmic rays. Constructing a statistical model of the ozone variability, we have been able to predict the tendency in the land air T evolution till the end of the current decade. Results show that Earth is facing a weak cooling of the surface T by 0.05–0.25 K (depending on the ozone model) until the end of the current solar cycle. A new mechanism for O3 influence on climate is proposed.

The Dumb One said: "The world has been encased in ice and the world has been a massive desert."

Yes, several times in fact and all before humans even evolved, much less invented fire or the IC engine. That's Internal Combustion btw. You're welcome.

You know what's nice though? This American 2012 election campaign is the last time any of us are going to have to sit through a bunch of greenie BS in a campaign year, ever. Yay.

I have considerable affection for the hockey stick graph. I was - well, not a true believer, I don't believe much of anything - but credulous. Then I saw the long flat period, where I knew that the Medieaval Warm Period was well established (BTW Farley Mowat's "Westviking" writes quite a bit about its consequences for navigation in northern waters). I realised then and there that "Climate Scientists" were a number of things not good, such as ignoramuses and fools. I did ask about its absence in the graph - the presenter said that the Medieaval Warm Period was experienced only in Western Europe (but there was an extended period of drought in what is now Western Canada) while the rest of the world was much colder. I found that to be far-fetched.

And a "denier" I became. The only people in the "consensus" are morons.

The Middle ages warm period caused enough surplus wealth that they built all the great Cathedrals of Europe, the french put a ban on the import of wine from Scotland, people in Britain were 2 or 3 inches taller in 1250 than they were in 1900. There is a huge civilizational advantage to warm weather.

I have lost a great deal of respect for science and have zero respect for "climate scientists". They are either crooks or fools on the glotard side.

~the Wet End

Really?
You're saying that during the Middle Ages the oceans didn't pour forth their billions upon billions of tons of CO2 nor did any volcanoes erupt during that period?
Do you have any proof of this?

Actually, I wouldn't care if you did.
You see, the whole CO2 thing has been falsified by a number of proofs, chief among which is that CO2 concentration has continued to grow but the Met Office has announced that there has been no warming since 1997.

Posted by: Oz at March 27, 2012 1:01 PM

No, Wet One, it doesn't matter. In the overall scheme of things human emissions are barely a rounding error. Some numbers for you:
Total annual human emissions: 30 billion tons
Total natural emissions: 800 billion tons
Total mass of ocean/atmosphere exchange: 15,000 billion tons

And in case you hadn't noticed, there's a very large negative feedback associated with CO2. Specifically the biosphere. More CO2 equals more plant growth equals a larger C02 sink. Hence the system tends toward equilibrium.

Finally, the effect of CO2 on sunlight absorption is at saturation. If you don't understand this bit then I'll come back to you and explain it in very simple words.

Now go way, and play with your Tonka Toys. It's not clear you belong in a grown-up world just yet.

Just watched a bit of a video of james Hansen holding forth.....I dumped it when he claimed the ARGO FLOATS had confirmed rising SST (sea surface temps).....a blatant out and out lie....the truth is a "statistically insignifigant decline"....

ARGO is a NASA programme.....James Hansen is the director of the GODDARD INSTITUTE of SPACE STUDIES, a division of NASA. An inconvenient truth.......

hansen had recieved 1.2 million from various "green" supporters at last count, and I'm still waiting for him to be charged, as that is illegal, but I won't hold my breath waiting, as I'm not ready to die just yet:-)))

Let us suppose that the real agenda behind the AGW scam is to promote 'economic justice' around the globe, by imposing artificially high energy prices on the developed nations of the world.

If this is true, then why cloak the agenda under a robe adorned with environmental ermine?

As with most things in life, if subterfuge and deception are used to sell it, something is very wrong with it.

~shaken

To gain the support of the useful idiots.
I've talked to a number of AGW supporters who flat out deny that AGW or any environmental cause is at all or in any way political.

Don't forget to celebrate Human Achievement Hour this coming Saturday, Mar. 31, at 8:30 PM local time.

Turn on all your lights, Christmas lights if you've got them, do a load of laundry, set the oven on self-clean, and idle your truck in the driveway for the neighbours to admire.

From the article - "In fact, it extended all the way down to Antarctica"

"All the way down to" would include everything in between which would make it world-wide.

Besides which, there's a lot more research been done that supports this, research that is pointedly ignored by warmistas. Read "Unstoppable Global Warming" by Singer and Avery for more references.
