WARNING:
It's absolutely painful to read.
Posted by Captain at January 27, 2012 11:34 AMGreat article! I especially liked your link on your sidebar in support of Ron Paul! Great to meet a fellow Ron Paul Warrior, Captain!
Posted by: Mike in Calgary at January 27, 2012 11:59 AMHe is The World's Most Interesting Republican Primary Candidate.
Posted by: Cpt. Capitalism at January 27, 2012 12:01 PMMan, that is hard on the eyes, going to the black background of the Captains, back to here.
Posted by: johnbrooks at January 27, 2012 12:07 PMActually I think a lot like Ron Paul....except I am wise enough to realize it is likely not profitable to run for POTUS....or profitable for the world in general if I did win.
Posted by: sasquatch at January 27, 2012 12:09 PMMy fave is this one... "I began the year in the middle of my final year of University, completing my dissertation on the touristic legacy of Michael Jackson... The year of 2011 sums up me finishing University and having to grow up."
"Finishing university meant I had to go and get a job (tut) and temping at a large retail chain led me to move into my sought after career in Human Resources, a career I had desired since my University modules last year in the subject. I now recruit for one of the largest retail firms in the UK and the studying has not all together stopped as I completed an Equality and Diversity course this year and have plans to complete a part time Masters and CIPD qualification next year to help me progress with my career... and did a spot of literary tourism in Beatrix Potter and William Wordsworth’s homes." http://davidhatton1987.blogspot.com/2011/12/and-happy-new-year-to-you.html
And to think, I wasted my education on chemistry.
Posted by: Red Jeff at January 27, 2012 1:09 PMI have noted among several of families I know that many of the high school girls soon to graduate and those in university have this dream to have a cushy job in elementary schools. Cushy because how much do you have to know to teach those so young? The truely skilled and effective teacher have the technique to get through to the kids, that technique is the secret of success. The ones seeking that cushy job are not likely to work hard to develope that effective technique.
Posted by: Canuckguy at January 27, 2012 2:13 PMMeanwhile, the Captain, who graduated with an economics degree, cannot actually find paid work as an economist. But he parrots the standard SDA narrative, and he's also mean-spirited, which are apparently enough to make him a resident expert on economics and career counselling around these parts.
By the way, the list of 20-something bloggers includes someone based in Malaysia, and another based in Indian. If you're going to spend your personal time putting together a blog post that serves no higher purpose than to rally your anonymous online pals together so that you all can mock a bunch of idealistic young American college students behind their backs, at least get your targets right.
Posted by: Davenport at January 27, 2012 3:08 PMNot everyone has the aptitude to be in STEM fields. All sorts of people that are otherwise useless can be beneficial to have around from time to time. Like economists. For example.
Posted by: slaw at January 27, 2012 3:32 PMDear Lord forgive me but I'm agreeing with Davenport. The great Captain has wasted time and bandwidth writing in his blog that others have blogs that do not meet his exacting standards in writing. Give me a break please, these folks may not be rocket scientists but they don't claim to be. That is the joy of the internet. In parts of the world anyone is free to create a blog. They are also free to ridicule others but then again this is more a reflection of the person ridiculing than the target. Sad Captain, sad.
Posted by: Texas Canuck at January 27, 2012 4:10 PMAh, actually Davenport, B Sci in Finance. Currently employed in banking. Purposely making little money as possible to pay taxes. Sorry to burst your bubble.
Posted by: Cpt. Capitalism at January 27, 2012 4:40 PM"Dear Lord forgive me but I'm agreeing with Davenport..."
Posted by: Texas Canuck at January 27, 2012 4:10 PM
I know, I know - the shame of it all! I even had to agree with Iberia once or twice.
Just don't take the pledge.
Posted by: Jamie MacMaster at January 27, 2012 4:43 PMMy little whiz kid is in that boat. I damn near died when she came home and announced she had dumped the sciences for fine arts. Then she announced she was gay. I didn't get up again after taking that pie in the face.
Of course I was the only one in the family with a problem with her life decisions, but I was told I was an ignoramus and that my opinion was worthless and to please shut the hell up. We have to love and support our children in everything they do, right? Right???
Now my creative daughter is slinging coffee at Starbucks, her artsy-fartsy 'life partner' is bagging groceries - and it's all Steven Harper's fault - him and those eeeeevil bankers.
I remain an ignoramus but a silent one who laughs to himself quietly from time to time. What else are you gonna do?
Posted by: Big Bad Jim at January 27, 2012 4:44 PMGood response to Davenport, Cpt. Capitalism.
Maybe Davenport is angry because he has a degree in Ethnic Puppetry.
Posted by: Joey at January 27, 2012 4:52 PMAnd Big Bad Jim, your daughter's sexual orientation has exactly what to do with her economic circumstances? I can't argue on the science vs. arts thing though. Nope, definitely can't argue there.

The Wet One at January 27, 2012 4:56 PM
Well, BBJ didn't say. But in certain places it would definitely be considered an asset. Pretty close to mandatory, actually.
Posted by: Jamie MacMaster at January 27, 2012 5:11 PMWell Wet One, suffice it to say that I though I am a politically incorrect ignoramus - I know enough about when to keep silent.
Rest assured I will act as shocked and outraged when certain economic and social realities kick my daughter squarely in the butt.
I am sure that the proliferation of men that wear tutus and women with mustaches in the Fine Arts programs is purely coincidental too.
Posted by: Big Bad Jim at January 27, 2012 5:21 PMAtlantic Jim, just please don't start singing the "International".
Big Bad Jim, my sympathies to you.
Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at January 27, 2012 6:29 PMSpeaking of "Elementary Education". I just got this link in an email.
ACT! for America was formed by Brigitte Gabriel, a Christian immigrant from Lebanon. She is probably the most dynamic women I have ever heard on this topic.
Students in North America are being propagandized with mis-information about Islam and its history in a lot of our nation's 7th grade social studies classes. Brigitte speaks about this in a recent speech in Colorado. I hope you will take the time to watch it at:

I have a niece who has been straight and lesbian twice now. We have given up. They are tought not to pick their own gender now until they think they are mature enough.

Posted by: peterj at January 27, 2012 8:04 PMSorry, Captain. These old eyes just can't handle horrible colour schemes any more. Anything on a black background hurts my brain much too much for me to read it. Your site is, for me, simply painful to view.
Posted by: djb at January 27, 2012 9:19 PMBig Bad Jim- A little ways to go before we get to this: ...or maybe not.

Posted by: snagglepuss at January 27, 2012 9:28 PMthey all write like Dr. Kylie sounds.
Posted by: cal2 at January 27, 2012 9:28 PMI'm with Texaas Canuck on this one. Captain Capitalism may be great with economics, but when it comes to understanding humanity and the freedoms we have in our society to just be ourselves, he's out of his league. These people aren't Occupiers, complainers nor trying to drag us anywhere. They're just expressing themselves on-line for friends and family. Leave them alone.
But first, the Captain could take a few lessons from them on web design.
Posted by: Rick in BC at January 28, 2012 2:19 AMMy take on this isn't that anyone really thinks that most of the silly people with the silly websites ought to be taking engineering or biochemistry. I doubt most of them could handle it. It's really more that the degrees they are taking are costing them time and money and are utterly worthless. Far too many people go to university. It's a scam, really. And I'll spare you my rant about teachers (there are too many of them, they are stupid and uneducated, you can't fire them, why are they all women?, they're a pack of commies etc.).
Over the summer I wasted some time hanging out on a lefty blog. I wound up begging one of the girls to stop with her degree in Women's Studies. Not only useless, but unspeakably boring. But no, she's going to be a lawyer specializing in... women, I guess. After all, there's such a dearth of lawyers. Ca-ching.
Posted by: Black Mamba at January 28, 2012 11:03 AMNot all. My daughter is pursuing her PhD in a STEM discipline. Her peers are getting jobs. She's getting paid to go to school and do research.
That makes her part of the 1 percent. Well, somebody's got to pay for all the drones we're churning out.
