Tim Thomas "Just Has To Be" a Racist

The Radical Left's latest Racist Poster Boy is none other than Tim Thomas, goaltender of the Boston Bruins. Why? Because he refused to go to the White House today.

Here's the statement that Thomas released:

"I believe the Federal government has grown out of control, threatening the Rights, Liberties, and Property of the People. This is being done at the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial level. This is in direct opposition to the Constitution and the Founding Fathers [ sic ] vision for the Federal government. Because I believe this, today I exercised my right as a Free Citizen, and did not visit the White House. This was not about politics or party, as in my opinion both parties are responsible for the situation we are in as a country. This was about a choice I had to make as an INDIVIDUAL."

h/t 'Snagglepuss'

Some of the comments at the Bruins Blog are priceless:

Way to put your own confused political leanings in the way of your team, your town, your fans...

You assume Thomas's absence is a political statement, but for all we know, he may have had a roll with the first lady and felt the situation would have been socially awkward.

Typical knee-jerk liberals didn't say a word when Theo skipped a Bush invite. Hypocrites.

First off, not so bad that you dissed the President of the United States, but this is a slap in the face to all the Boston Bruins fans. In case he hasn't noticed, Massachusetts is a Democratic State. Why would Thomas take this stand. Doesn't he know that Curt Schilling pretty much got run out of town for backing and working to get George W Bush elected?
Besides that, Red Sox management exercised their rights under his contract to put a stop to his foray into politics right quick. I respect most people for their political beliefs, but Glen Beck? I could see Ronald Regan, John F Buckley, Dwight D Eisenhour, but Glen Beck? The guy is a Nazi for god sake! My guess is that the Boston Fans will let their feelings known at the next home game.

And so it begins:

TimThomas_RaceBaiting.jpg

Incidentally, this photo "clearly" provides the clues that Tim Thomas is a racist:

Can't find the clues? He's using a white glove and white pads to stop a black puck from achieving its destiny. What could be more racist than that?!?

Dang it, dang it dang it - As a Habs fan I used to hate Tim Thomas, now I love him. (I guess I'll just keep hating the Bruins and Leafs a little more than before)

Hey Robert- Beat ya to it. From Reader's Tips:

Lead story on TSN: "The 2011 Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins made their visit to the White House on Monday, but without the one player whose postseason heroics got them there in the first place. Conn Smythe Trophy winning-goaltender Tim Thomas did not attend the visit hosted by U.S. President Barack Obama and the team explained that he would post a statement regarding his actions on his Facebook page on Monday night".
Thomas may be a little flakey (a goalie doncha know), but to me, indicates personal integrity, and shows himself to be an excellent judge of character. WTG TIM!

Dave Hodge should be fired from TSN for calling Thomas a racist.

Posted by: Molarmauler at January 23, 2012 9:11 PM

Listened to the Vancouver sports radio today and just had to shut it off. Idiots like Dave Hodge should stick to their jobs, I couldn't give a rat's azz about his political leanings.

Posted by: multirec at January 23, 2012 9:13 PM

No more "going along to get along".

Progressives crap all over you every chance they get but demand respect and deference from you in return? Tim is an example to be applauded and emulated (even if he doesn't play for a team I cheer for).

Send him emails of support and congratulations, he needs to know his stand is being supported.

There isn't much about this man that is not admirable. A great athlete, father and thinking human being. Good on Tim Thomas...and I sure a H am NOT a Bruins fan.

Snagglepuss, sorry but I didn't see your post!

I hope that someone at Sun News asks Dave Hodge whether implying someone is a racist without any proof whatsoever is good journalism.

Bruce: I normally watch HNIC with the sound off except when the game is actually on, so I don't know the dude's name, but I have seen one black guy do in-between period reports from time to time. Not that I pay any attention to them, regardless of who is making the report, even Cassie.

Over at ZH, comments are running about 50-1 in favour of Timmy. I haven't checked his Facebook page, but I understand it's the opposite there. Think I might swing by, and help move the needle a bit.

So now Tim Thomas will have to endure the wrath of the lefties from a State where you can find a Kennedy or one of their supporters under every rock. The US constitution guarantees him the right to freedom of speech among many other rights, but it would seem that the demoKrats in Taxechuesets would prefer to deprive Tim Thomas who is a US citizen of his Constitutional rights, because they don t happen to agree with his opinion.Karl Marx would be very proud,Thomas Jefferson not so much.

And Dave Hodge, by the way, you know, the pencil flippin' CBC analyst with 'The Hair' who got canned from HNIC back in the 70's...? His hair tonic was some powerful stuff...roots must have pierced the skull and sucked his brain dry.

Listened to the sports guys this AM on Team 1040(Vancouver) talk about how Thomas didn't respect the office of the president. Hell, the current occupier doesn't respect the office. The jock(Matt Zacharus) then went on to talk about how he was taught at journalist school how to walk the middle of the road politically. Then he went on to diss Thomas and repulicans and how bad Glen Beck was, not to mention the Tea Party..Also how, because he was a R, Thomas wouldn't be sharing any of his wealth with the poor. Someone shouls tell Zacharus that conservatives give MUCH more to charities than do liberals. Yeas, real middle of the road stuff.

Hockey the last game you can actually watch white people play for now.

Of course that is offensive to most and won’t last forever, but how come white people are not allowed to watch something that they can culturally call their own? It’s not like anyone really wants white only colleges or news networks, newspapers, all white basketball teams and so on, like so many others or everyone else is allowed to have, and It’s not like you hate black people because you want the same rights that they enjoy. It’s just so confusing that they are allowed to enjoy all black everything and yet white people have to give everything away too them. Where’s the “social justice” in that?

Posted by: Knight 99 at January 23, 2012 10:37 PM

Okay. I stand corrected. Dave Hodge did indeed tweet most of that comment.

Everething except KKK#racist

Missed the quotation marks. It does however change the tone of the comment...tounge in cheek maybe?

I believe the KKK#racist bit is Mr. Stoppler's editorial comment.

Posted by: syncrodox at January 23, 2012 10:41 PM

Doh!

I stand corrected. Dave Hodge did twitter that comment (tongue in cheek I think) without the 3k reference or the hashtag. I believe those are Mr. Stoppler's editorial comments.

Syncrodox, in the interest of clarity, Dave Hodge originally made this comment. Then other referenced it, explaining it more fully.

If Hodge didn't mean "KKK" then what was it he implied?

I realize it was just meant as a joke but perhaps an inappropriate one given the sensitive nature of race-baiting these days.

Posted by: SolidFPlus at January 23, 2012 11:22 PM

Robert W. (Vancouver)

Agreed. 3K is definately implied. I read through his recent tweets (I don't follow Hodge) and found that his tweets infrequently (for a media type) and that a good portion of his tweets are tongue in cheek.

I don't know if he was race baiting or not. As to his insensitivity, or the inappropriatness of his comment. That's subjective...I found it wickedly snotty, but that's me.

I do know that the 3k reference and the hash tag appear to be Mr. Stoppler's editorial response to Hodge's suggestion...I think.

Anyways, thanks for the clarification.

With the gas-bags and keystone-kop routine going on down there right now, I'll bet if his name were on the ticket, he could possibly win that thing.

Should print up "Tim Thomas for President" bumper stickers and make a couple of $$$million!!!

Posted by: glacierman at January 24, 2012 1:39 AM

I largely agree with what Thomas said, although the problems certainly didn't begin on 20 Jan 09. In fact, he specifically noted that his comments were non-partisan.

But I'm leaning towards thinking he should have gone to the White House. I believe one must separate the office of President from either the current occupant or the institution of the federal government under these circumstances.

As for Dave Hodge, had he called Thomas "racist" based on nothing more than his White House no-show, that would be WAY out of line to the point of slander, but I don't believe he did. The line about the kids is tasteless and classless but does not constitute an outright accusation of racism on its own. It's marginally humorous if it comes from someone with a track record for frivolous comments of that nature. Those who respect freedom of speech may condemn it on the above grounds, but nothing more.

Main point of clarity: the "KKK" reference was inherent in the original Dave Hodge tweet. It was HIS intention to craft that association in the minds of readers, and that's why he and TSN are now taking a tremendous amount of heat. It was repugnant and, indeed, libellous.

Which is why I said (along with hundred of others on twitter) that I hope he's taken to task for writing some pretty vile things about an athlete - things of a political nature. If he's going down that road, then someone on our side should call him out and give him a taste of life on the political/media battlefield.

[aside:] Synchro, seriously, I have no idea what makes you draw those conclusions about me. It's mind boggling in fact, given the positions I've taken here. Wait, is this some kind of hazing ritual??

Posted by: John Salt at January 24, 2012 2:41 AM

Well if they trade him, that team would be looking good for the Stanley Cup, seeing as how he pretty much won it by himself last time. Imagine what the guy could do behind Vancouver's defence, why even Luongo almost won and his idea of puck-stopping is to dive headfirst at the skates of the shooter.

It's perfectly logical for Obama supporters to assume those that disagree with 'the one' are racist. After all, that was precisely the reason many voted for him in the first place. Having no clue of his political policies leaves them empty headed as to any possible reasoning why someone would dare disagree.

nv53:

"It's the office you respect"

See, that's the problem with the American imperial presidency. You can't separate the office from the holder, and no one has done it much justice lately.

Here, we have a much saner system - the head of State is the Queen, and her representative, the G-G. That office is above politics, and worthy of enduring respect. The PM? Not so much.

Not that I was ever in any danger of having to choose, but if I'd been invited to meet Cretin, I would have had to wash my hair. Martin? Maybe - there were times I almost felt sorry for the guy. PMSH? Sure, any time. However, should the G-G have requested my presence for a ceremony, I'd have gone, even if it was la Clarkson, or Mme. Jean. Not to have done so would have exhibited disrespect for the country; snubbing a PM is merely insulting a celebrity.

And the rest of the team went to see 'bama?

Time for a name change: The Boston Pooh Bears

Thanks for clarifying, John Salt. His comment is indeed missing from the feed, but it's glowing in red lights on his tweet sheet. :)

FYI Dave Hodge has posted a clarifying tweet. Apparently yesterday's tweet was tongue-in-cheek sarcasm......

Could have used a '/sarc' tag or something....

University of Vermont does turn out the occasional good egg.

John Salt @12:16 - the filter is a dark, ravenous force of unfathomable mystery, but we have been repeatedly assured that its comment-devouring decisions are never personal. It hates us all. The only thing we really know about it other than that is that it has no tolerance for anyone peddling onl*ne V*agra ins*rance.

By the way, as a casual Bruins fan, I was not insulted, but rather delighted, and wish leftard commenters would not presume to speak for me.

Curt Bloody Sock Schilling the Yankee Slayer will ever be a hero to Red Sox fans.

What is that guy smoking? Don't tell me, I don't care.

BTW, it will be interesting to see what happens to his endorsements. He was starting to show up in commercials nationally. My bet is that that is all over.

Tim, I'm betting his jersey sales go through the roof.

The rhetoric on team 1040 radio sports in Vancouver this morning angered me to the point I was yelling at the radio. If Dave Hodge tweeted that "Thomas is a racist" he should be suspended and should have to formally opologize.

Posted by: mot at January 25, 2012 1:02 AM

Remember when Dave Hodge called Michael Jordan a racist when he snubbed George H. Bush? Me either.

nold @ 9:50 a.m.: Just to clarify, I didn't say Thomas or another athlete or entertainer shouldn't take a stand; what I said was that he was meeting with the "office of the leader of the country", rather than with "Barack Obama" or "the American federal government". I think people should take a stand.

KevinB @ 12:59 p.m.: That's another way of looking at it, I suppose.

I quit taking TSN serious many years ago when they had a feature running prior to one of the olympic games that focussed on Beach Volleyball and the amount of sand that happened to enter the upper 'uniform' of the female participants.
Good solid reporting in my view!
Happened to be on a flight last nite and TSN was on 2 channels on the aircraft. One channel featured ladies tennis - love the grunting!
The other TSN channel was carrying a Raptors game - good Canadian sport eh!
A'holes!

" they had a feature running prior to one of the olympic games that focussed on Beach Volleyball and the amount of sand that happened to enter the upper 'uniform' of the female participants. "

Sounds like they were right on top of things.

If you don't think the women's curling craze last olympics was due to the fetching ladies playing, then you better figure out who put the saltpeter in your diet ;·)

On John Gormley's Wednesday edition of Heroes & Zeroes, he had Thomas pencilled in as today's zero.

I agree with Gormley on most things, however, I think he missed the boat on this one.

It is TRUE!
I have heard this Tim fellow is trying change his team name to the "White Hawks". This is to match his white gloves.
But he loves stopping that black puck!
If he played in Montreal, we would force him to undergo much therapy, before he got on the ice!
