Darn.
In a letter to the editor, Mark promised me that, "The government’s decision to close down SCN is going to cost the people of Saskatchewan far more in lost investment from outside the province than was being spent to run SCN, money that was used to employ Saskatchewan labour and pay for services from Saskatchewan companies."
So much for that. They're even keeping the education on.
I really wanted to pay for it out of tax dollars.
Posted by lance at January 17, 2012 3:13 PMA model for the new CBC?
The difficult part will be what bits of the current programming to keep, of course. After Rex's Cross-Country Checkup, and the Vinyl Cafe, I admit to being stumped.
The rest of the Communist Brainwashing Corp's material is better left in the dumps - unless I've missed another keeper?
Posted by: Doc at January 17, 2012 3:59 PMThe statement that SCN "brings Saskatchewan stories to ... the world" is fanciful at best.
I have never heard of it before, let alone seen or heard any material which originated with it.
Entertainment out of Hollywood and news out of Toronto, gag twice. What is wrong with something local that is cheap?
Posted by: Scar at January 17, 2012 4:30 PMCorner Gas, Little Mosque and now SCN. How will we ever know what the culture of Saskatchewan looks like. I can imagine the "artistic" community is devastated at the loss of another government teat.
Oh, it's back on you say? Pity that the private sector will run it. First SCN and before you know it healthcare will be privatized. Saint Tommy forgive them for the slippery slope they travel.
/sarc off
Any Sask SDA folks actually watch SCN? Or is that SCTV?
Posted by: Texas Canuck at January 17, 2012 4:57 PMI wonder if Rupert Murdoch would buy the CBC news division?
Posted by: marco at January 17, 2012 5:08 PMI have never heard of SCN before this article!!!
Posted by: denis at January 17, 2012 5:09 PMWhat is SCN? I guess I pay for it but I no idea what it is.
Posted by: a@c at January 17, 2012 5:11 PMDamn. All you Flatbush farmers not sucking on the people's tit anymore? Phil will be so happy!!!/sarc
Never heard of SCN before, but then we have Access here in oil land.
Looks like Mark has wasted his life at the U.of R., so far.
Posted by: David at January 17, 2012 5:35 PMNow the Sask gov't can carry on a govern, as it's out of the entertainment business
Posted by: NME666 at January 17, 2012 6:55 PM"A model for the new CBC?", exactly!
An excellent finish to SCN.
Good question a@c.
Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at January 17, 2012 7:06 PM"Corner Gas, Little Mosque and now SCN. " I had no idea "Little Mosque" was supposed to be about life in Saskabush!
And,I've never heard of SCN either. Guess I'm culturally unenlightened.

Saskatchestan.
Posted by: Black Mamba at January 17, 2012 10:02 PMI wonder how much grant money this guy slurps up? Good on the Sask gov't divesting itself of garbage that a government should not be spending money on. Yep, some people will be out of work, and I feel bad for those people, but how bad did people feel when we cut the military from 75,000 to 60,000 back in the '90s?
Posted by: Dwayne at January 17, 2012 10:25 PMI, for one, will miss SCN. But given the current political climate, I suppose it had to go. The only way it could survive would be as a US-style public TV station, but we don't have the population for that. Those that are trying to make points by saying that private enterprise has taken over and rescued SCN are full of it. It was the stuff they are not keeping that was the good stuff.
Having said that, I'm still looking forward to more City TV. After all, I only get CBC and CTV now, anything has got to be an improvement.
City TV coming to the rectangle province?
such good fortune for y'all, partaking of the National Enquirer of broadcasting.
but that's what right wingers do, pander to the lowest common denominator.
