The next time someone tells you that your small-c conservative values make you an extremist, direct them to this video by Pat Condell:
This should be mandatory watching for every American voter as it provides a roadmap for where the Democrats and Big-government Republicans wish to take the country.

Posted by: Lickmuffin at November 30, 2011 1:40 PMOne recalls another British politician who was attacked and ridiculed for his warnings of impending peril. When his predictions came true, he was called upon to fix the mess his detractors had made.
What is it about the nature of these people when shown, right in front of them, the blatant result of their miserable, failed experimentation, they completely ignore it. Or worse, the prescribe even greater doses of the snake oil that has put the patient into a coma.
Are these people so engrossed in trying to line their own pockets through the emiseration of others or are they just so monumentally stupid?
Posted by: Chris in the Bridge at November 30, 2011 1:46 PMIt is a fundamental reality that you lose much freedom, sovereignty and any other liberty-themed concept once you are bankrupt. It is the logical consequence of socialism.
They can't say they were never warned. Plenty of conservatives and libertarians have been beating this drum for decades and had been labeled as insensitive crackpots.
Posted by: Pat at November 30, 2011 1:48 PMFarage, Hannon and Condell are heroes in the cause of freedom. It is unfortunate that the vast majority of people, are too concerned about putting in a day's work, going for a beer after work, taking the kid to the ballgame or hockey game, rehashing the latest sports game, watching the latest survivor show, to see, like Condell says, the very people we entrusted with our freedoms actually taking them away bit by bit.

"...but prepare how?"
(Keep politically active).
Start with the basics and then expand on them, first is a mental attitude of survival and a willingness to accept disaster. Begin by drawing out the basics and start expanding from there - Food, shelter, clothing.
Example: (a very simplified example to start with, each should sub-group repeatedly from there)
1. Food – Research and learn how to grow some food, how to dry, pickle, can, rotate and store. Water – accessibility, storage, filtration. How & where to hunt (Requires rifle & ammunition and skill).
2. Shelter – Pay off ALL debts, insure backup heating and lighting supplies, security (requires sub groups).
3. Clothing – A generic term for all the needs thought of, from clothing to appropriate medical supplies, additional day to day requirements......
From there start looking at investments, properties, passports etcetera.......
Here is a brilliant commonsense survival podcast with nearly 800 free 1 hour shows to listen to; no doom & gloom and no outlandish conspiracy theory, simply a realistic look at self reliant living on a multitude of topics from gardening to self defence.

Posted by: Knight 99 at November 30, 2011 2:11 PMI enjoy Pat's rants but Mr. Athiest has some explaining to do.
Why?
Atheists support PC secular policy. PC Secular policy = progressive policy. Progressive policy = totalitarianism.
Have atheistic beliefs not allowed politicians to lead us to the brink of tyranny?
Thinking of Castro loving Trudeau, I say yes.
That being said, Pat has connected the dots and the picture they paint is a bleak one.
If the UN gets a Global energy tax (global governance) we will witness the greatest cull of humans in history.

Posted by: Vern at November 30, 2011 3:24 PMI have to disagree with Mr. Condell. He appears to be alluding to the coriolis effect, which for small scale things like a kitchen drain, is an urban legend.
However, on the smaller point of the failure of collectivism, collapse of the financial industry, large scale rioting, and whole downfall of western civilization thing, I must agree.

I wouldn't characterize Pat Condell as overly politically correct. In fact not at all.
He is indeed atheist, but I would think a real Christian should find that a challenge not a battle.
Conspiracy theories aside, it’s pretty much commonsense to understand that elites want to control the masses. That is a common theme, in fact “the theme” throughout history, right up until the American War of Independence and the French Revolution.
It would be pretty naive to think that the ruling classes wouldn’t have wanted their perceived inalienable god given rights back. The newer super wealth and their idealistic drones on the left are all useful idiots vying for their spot on the sun.
Posted by: Knight 99 at November 30, 2011 3:27 PMViddy well my little droogies, viddy well - this is us in 5 - 8 years time if we don't put a leash on the authoritarian statist instincts of our left wing political class elites. Any sane European will be either looking for a way out of Europe or preparing for civil upheaval and all the shortages and lawlessness that comes with it - time to cache some gold, food and buy a gun and some ammo - Regime collapse coming and the authoritarian martial law to regain control is imminent.
Posted by: Occam at November 30, 2011 3:28 PMHe is spot on. Those who cherish freedom should heed what he says be they atheist or religious. The loss of our personal freedom and liberty does not happen in one big blow over night; it happens drip by drip. Seat-belt laws, bicycle helmet laws, food bans, light bulb bans, hate speech and all hate laws, HRCs smoking bans outdoors and in one's own vehicle and much, much more are examples of the drip by drip. Each one of these were implemented by government due to special interest lobbying and without a mandate by the electors. Yet most fail to connect the dots and see it coming if it does not affect them personally at the time.
Posted by: Alain at November 30, 2011 3:54 PMPat Condell speaks from the point of the interested observer. He is rational, articulate, eloquent, logical and speaks to the higher mind instead of the emotional baser one. As such, he would never be allowed any coverage through the MSM. Thank goodness for Youtube.
But it doesn't matter. Many of the people wouldn't understand his message, the majority that do will choose to deny it anyways, and those that take heed will be called 'alarmist'
Funny how the left is more concerned about something like Climate Change which 'might' be attributed to humans where the right show concern over issues like government and economics which are directly attributed to humans.
Which one do you think we have more control over and ability to make actual change?
Sad state of affairs.
So, perhaps the much touted CETA should be reconsidered if we need to adopt EU regulatory diktats, which are so staggeringly corrupt non-whores blush when they are exposed to them.

Spot on.
Be mentally ready for the worst, the aggressor depends on shock and awe.
Don't be shocked or cowed into inaction.
Be prepared to reject the arsonist when he dons the cap of the fireman and pretends that he is now your saviour after burning down your way of life and hoped-for future around your ears.

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at November 30, 2011 8:26 PMEverything the Europeans adopted for the sake of ease has bitten them in the collective bum. I'm afraid, Ken, that it is a fundamental truth of human nature that people do not care about politics until they believe that it is or will impact their daily lives. That's why it is important for us all to be town criers for freedom - educate ourselves about issues and take every opportunity as we go through our daily lives to alert others to the loss of liberty. The tricky thing is not to try to do so by lecturing, but by speaking to them in a way that gradually introduces them to the problem of lost liberty. It is particularly important to impart the message not just to the like-minded, but also to the apathetic.

Are these people so engrossed in trying to line their own pockets through the emiseration of others or are they just so monumentally stupid?
I like to think of it in terms of two groups of people.
1) The true-believer progressives. Their commitment to their ideals is so firm that they ignore the failures of progressive policies no matter how obvious those failures are. Generally, the true-believers are tools of the next group.
2) The cynical progressive. Most progressives in high political office fall into this category. The cynical progressive knows, but does not care that progressive policies don't work since they see progressive ideology not as an end in itself, but as a vehicle for promoting their own political agenda which may involve anything from common self-interest to violent revolution.
I don't think stupidity ever has much to do with it, unless you classify self-delusion as stupidity.
Posted by: Sadistic Eristic at November 30, 2011 11:36 PMEmpire building.
It is said, quite rightly, that there are no new ideas in politics. Most of the ideas, strategies and tactics that one sees used today were used hundreds or even thousands of years ago. But there is one modern idea that may not have an historical precedent. I'm no historian and I would love it if someone could provide an historical example of what I describe below being used.
As I see it, the ruling classes of the West figured out in the early to mid 20th century that, in the age of popularly elected governments, it was impossible to create an empire the old-fashioned way, namely by building a powerful military and conquering other countries. Voters simply didn't want to pay the cost in blood, money and moral conscience to satisfy the empire building ambitions of their political leaders. So the ruling classes devised an alternate strategy: They would build their empires by conspiring with the ruling classes in other countries, and against their own citizenry, to merge countries together into larger political blocks. The EU is the most advanced example of this tactic. For a while, there seemed to be an effort to bind Canada, the U.S. and Mexico together in a manner similar to what was done in Europe. There also seemed to be some buzz about eventually merging such a North American Union to the EU. The ongoing troubles in Mexico and the clamor by U.S. voters to control the border with Mexico has killed that talk for now, but, for a while, the effort by the political class to bind together a NA Union seemed vibrant.
Facile immigration, multiculturalism and the notion that nation states have become obsolete and will fade away all seem to be ideas that are associated with this new tactic for empire building being pushed by the ruling classes.
I find these ideas incredibly dangerous. Does any sane person really believe that the rulers of non-Western nations will cooperate in building a post-national world?
Posted by: Sadistic Eristic at December 1, 2011 12:02 AMCondell is an atheist, but why must he keep blaming everything on religious believers? He's like Hitchens, always angry and miserable, with no hope seemingly. I really think some of these people actually believe in God, but they hate Him! So in fact they are not atheists, just haters of God.
