Reader Tips

Sitting in a stationary position for excessive periods of time, such as when one spends too much time online, is known to significantly increase the risk of blood clots, strokes, and heart attacks. Tonight, in the interest of public health, we present a simple exercise routine that will get the blood flowing in your limbs and help obviate the risk of these serious health problems. So, grab yourself an inflatable ball, clear some space in front of your computer, and follow along at home. (h/t David Thompson)

This is a *huge* story: a pregnant Mom in Britain tripped on a pothole. On a private road. And she's right miffed about it:

"We need to get something sorted….Nobody is doing anything about it. I'm not sure if somebody owns (the road) or not, but nobody is coming forward."

The story gets even more disturbing: earlier this year, according to the intrepid reporters at the Sunderland Echo, two girls fell from their bikes on the same road.

Where's the outrage? Where? Where?

For my own part, I’d bet that many parts of mid-century Britain will be a violent, brutish, Balkanized ruin. Let’s meet for lunch circa 2035 and see who’s right.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada would like to invite you to participate in an online consultation on Immigration Levels and Mix.

This past July, Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney, along with Parliamentary Secretaries Rick Dykstra and Chungsen Leung, launched a series of cross-country consultations on immigration issues. As part of this process, an online consultation is currently underway.

You are invited to submit feedback through an online questionnaire, which will be available until September 19, 2011. We are asking for your input on the right level of immigration to Canada – how many – and the right mix between the three immigrant classes to Canada – economic, family and protected persons.

Prior to completing the questionnaire, please read the following background document. This serves to give you a sense of some of the challenges and realities we face as we strive to best answer the difficult questions involved in managing Canada’s immigration system. The full questionnaire is available attached if you wish to view and/or print the document to plan your responses before submitting your feedback online. Please note that this is for reference purposes only; responses must be submitted using the online questionnaire.

A report on the consultations, including a summary of responses to the online consultation questionnaire, will be available on our website in fall 2011 or winter 2012.

The on-line consultation will be available at http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/consultations/index.asp from August 29 to September 19, 2011.

Thank you in advance for your input.

The tide is rolling in. The leftists are determined to turn out children into pedobait. This past month has seen a scourge of stories on this topic. The toddler lingerie line, the 10 year posing seductively for vogue, the pole dancing classes for children and the recent conference for "minor attracted children" and now this:

http://pajamasmedia.com/zombie/2011/08/26/brave-new-world-arrives-ahead-of-schedule-sex-indoctrination-for-toddlers/

Kathy (FFoF) had a translated page link to a swiss site that was difficult to understand, but the gist was discernible about this a few days ago, the blogosphere has picked it up and the details are now in along with some excellent commentary at a number of sites.

Correction: the post at 11:45 should read "minor attracted persons" not "minor attracted children". The euphemisms are becoming ever more creative.

"The City: Beijing"

"Ai Weiwei finds China’s capital is a prison where people go mad."

"Beijing is two cities. One is of power and of money. People don’t care who their neighbors are; they don’t trust you. The other city is one of desperation. I see people on public buses, and I see their eyes, and I see they hold no hope. They can’t even imagine that they’ll be able to buy a house. They come from very poor villages where they’ve never seen electricity or toilet paper.

Every year millions come to Beijing to build its bridges, roads, and houses. Each year they build a Beijing equal to the size of the city in 1949. They are Beijing’s slaves. They squat in illegal structures, which Beijing destroys as it keeps expanding. Who owns houses? Those who belong to the government, the coal bosses, the heads of big enterprises. They come to Beijing to give gifts—and the restaurants and karaoke parlors and saunas are very rich as a result.

Beijing tells foreigners that they can understand the city, that we have the same sort of buildings: the Bird’s Nest, the CCTV tower. Officials who wear a suit and tie like you say we are the same and we can do business. But they deny us basic rights. You will see migrants’ schools closed. You will see hospitals where they give patients stitches—and when they find the patients don’t have any money, they pull the stitches out. It’s a city of violence."

"Ai Weiwei attacks injustices in China in magazine article"

"World-famous artist accuses officials of denying people their basic rights and describes Beijing as a 'city of violence'"

"Ai Weiwei, the Chinese artist held by the authorities for almost three months earlier this year, has attacked injustice in China in a passionate article fuelled by his own experiences of detention.

He accused officials of "deny[ing] us basic rights" and compared migrant workers to slaves, describing Beijing as "a city of violence" and "a constant nightmare".

But one of the most powerful passages describes how people "become like mad" as they are held in isolation and how detainees "truly believe [captors] can do anything to you".

His remarks, in an article about Beijing published on the website of Newsweek magazine, are certain to anger Chinese security officials. They come days after it emerged that China is reportedly planning to give police legal powers to hold some suspects for up to six months without telling their families. Campaigners say the move would legitimise and potentially increase the number of secret detentions."

"China calls online rumors a 'social malady'"

"The Chinese government can't stand online rumors, and in a commentary today from state-run media organization, Xinhua, it made that abundantly clear.

According to Xinhua, a mouthpiece for the country's ruling party, the growth of microblogging services, like Twitter, as well as blogs, is helping to fuel "toxic rumors" that the government says, could lead to the rapid disintegration of the quality of the Internet.

"The rapid advance of this flood has also brought 'mud and sand'--the spread of rumors--and to nurture a healthy Internet, we must thoroughly eradicate the soil in which rumors grow," Xinhua wrote in a story published today in China, and translated by Reuters. "Concocting rumors is itself a social malady, and the spread of rumors across the Internet presents a massive social threat."

In an attempt to address the issue, the news agency called for "stronger Internet administration from the responsible agencies, raising the intensity of attacks on rumors.""
