Yesterday Sun News TV's Brian Lilley interviewed transplanted American agitator / community organizer Luam Kidane (h/t 'batb'). Warning: Severe nausea may ensue.
Just imagine for a moment if a right-wing conservative came up from America and started spouting such drivel. The Left in Canada would go absolutely apoplectic. And rightly so by the way. But because one of their own is saying such things, it's all perfectly fine.
SDA regular 'lookout' had some brilliant commentary on this matter:
Last night, watching SUN TV’s Byline with Brian Lilley, who exercised ADMIRABLE restraint, my husband and I were stunned too by Luam Kidane of the radical, brain dead group “No One’s Illegal”—well, we weren’t really surprised because this entitled, arrogant, ignorant, and stupid ninny is typical of a critical mass of the brainwashed “Whatever Generation”.
In even and silky tones, she insisted that Lilley adhere to HER definition of words—he didn’t—and she refused to answer Lilley’s main question (paraphrased), “Do you agree that Canada should have no immigration policy and no borders, so that anyone may enter Canada?”
Kidane finally admitted that, in fact, she and her group do not acknowledge Canada as a sovereign nation at all. They think it’s illegal, occupied territory, “Turtle Island”. Lilley then asked her if she ever used the services of this non-country—like the library, public transit, or the health care system. Kidane demurred. I wish that Lilley had pressed her on that one—and had asked her who was supposed to pay for services if the whole world has access to Canada and just anyone can enter any time.
Kidane’s ideas are radically and certifiably insane but there are a whole lot of other “youngsters” just like her, whose brains have been programmed by the lefties who run our education systems from kindergarten to post graduate levels. These people are dangerous. I don’t think breaking the law to achieve their revolutionary ends would bother them at all. In fact, I’ve just checked their web site and it seems they’ve probably already broken the law. Here’s part of this group’s April, 2011 blog message (note that Lilley’s question, which Kidane refused to answer, is unambiguously answered here):
“ . . . Close to one year ago, No One is Illegal joined with thousands on the streets of Toronto and dared to dream of a world without borders and fences. We marched with Indigenous people, migrants, poor people, people of colour, queer and trans people, feminists, disabled people, anarchists, anti-poverty activists, rank and file labour activists, anti-capitalists, environmental justice activists, and community organizers to confront the G20 leaders in Toronto . . . .”
Posted by Robert at May 18, 2011 6:00 PMKidane is a total nut case;
she came off
like an alien from outer space.
From a comment I made this morning:
I watched Luam Kidane with growing wonder: How could someone with such ludicrous, down-the-rabbit-hole, views take herself [so] utterly seriously. ...
... I guess she thought those pink earrings gave her alot of cred: They looked like flying saucers.
Kidane is perfectly typical and actually more sane sounding than most university students I've met in Toronto.

Posted by: Sarnia Jim at May 18, 2011 10:18 PM"Canada" supposedly belongs to everyone, yet take away the infrastructure built by generations of Canadians and all these loons aren't anymore interested than they would be moving to the Antarctic.
The same applies for all the third world freeloaders, native aboriginal complainers and granola's alike.
Apparently it all belongs to them, whitey get out! But can we take the buildings, parks, social programs, businesses et all with us? Hell no, that part of it stays, "we want the old ways but we be building no teepee villages in the middle of BF nowhere". "It's Chevy pick-up trucks, free healthcare and lots of modern bling all the way man".
The rest of the world is tripping over themselves to get to Canada/ US for what? Smoky mountain vista's and buffalo runs? The most flabbergasting thing about them, is that once they get here, they sh!t all over the country trying to change it over to the old country they just abandoned. The Aboriginals and Lefies love it, CHANGE and messing with the "white man" so all is good. Very messed up.
*of course I exclude most Asians, because they for the most part (certainly in the past) have adopted their new homes and it's societies ways. That seems to be changing more now also. At least they bloody well look after themselves by working , contributing and not complaining about it.

Posted by: Osumashi Kinyobe at May 18, 2011 11:14 PMI could only watch about 2 minutes of this. HTF does someone become this stupid? Where does this idiotic mindset come from? My ancestors expanded into territories where they killed off the indigenous inhabitants and took over the land for themselves. They didn't lose any sleep over it. The first settlers in N. America came here, claimed the land for themselves and they won the various wars involved in settling land ownership issues. Unlike the Spanish, the British colonials didn't kill off all the Indians and they're far better off now than they were 200 years ago. I've yet to have a Native Indian tell me they want to give up their pickup truck and rifle and go hunting on foot with a primitive bow and arrow.
I think the interviewed moron should leave "turtle island" out of respect for the indigenous people and go to the eastern part of Congo to preach her message of open borders and "no one is illegal". Hell, I'd even support the Canadian government paying for a first class one way ticket for her to get to Congo.

Well... I'd like to engage you in a conversation here Chris, but you make it difficult with your distorted definitions of "redefinition", "language", "terminology" and "annoying", as they are based on a false dichotomy of systematic hegemonic oppression.
Posted by: badmax at May 19, 2011 12:16 AMChrisinMB: Agreed. The deliberate obfuscation of language is a standard leftist tactic. It's really a "knock over the chess board" approach. Things like, "Capitalism is murder" etc are simply ways of making any coherent, meaningful discussion impossible thereby allowing them to preserve the illusion in their own minds of having "won" the argument. It's also the argumentative equivalent of sticking their fingers in their ears, closing their eyes and saying, "la, la, la, I can't hear you." It's only frustrating if one makes the false assumption that the perpetrator of this nonsense actually wants a rational discussion. When the lefties try this rubbish on me, I call them on it and label the tactics for exactly what they are -- intellectual laziness.

She is ludicrous.
I used to point out, disparagingly, to my wife that so many women wore earrings that looked like fishing lures, but this is the first woman that I have ever seen who has earrings that look like they were beer mats filched from a Disco.
The terminology thing?
We all have a right to free speech.
She doesn't have a right to redefine the definitions of words to limit the questions of someone who is interviewing her so that she can feel comfortable with a society she rejects who share the interviewers word definitions without drawing ridicule.
Either she learns to make her point within the widely agreed upon definition of the terminology or there is no conversation.
I wouldn't worry about her and her ilk making many converts, what I would worry about is that her and her ilk will become frustrated with their lack of progress(with their cultish terminology) and take radical actions to advance the ideas behind that radical terminology.
(if I were the Director of CSIS I'd find out who defines their terms and get real close)
eg. Weather Underground, Baader-Meinhoff, Red Brigades, Simbanese Liberation Army
A quick search revealed that in 2008 Luam Kidane was part of a Radical Feminist Soccer League. Apparently their exclusionary founding principles saw the league fold in 2009. :-(

Posted by: Robert W. at May 19, 2011 1:34 AMYou laugh at the radical feminist soccer league, but take a look at olympic women's hockey for a minute. We're the only country that can put together a credible team, for cultural reasons, and it shows in the scores and in abysmal attendance. So our answer isn't to accept that fans simply aren't interested in watching high-school level sport and move on, but instead we lobby internationally to shoehorn this one-sided debacle that makes a mockery of faster, higher, stronger.
Unless the teams are wearing bikinis, they will need seatbelts to sell out women's hockey in Sochi.

This is standard political correctness agenda stuff -- recruiting all these "victim" groups as a substitute working class for the purpose of attempting to overthrow capitalism. It won't necessarily work, because even the supposely disadvantaged have their pride and generally prefer not to allow themselves to be used as cannon fodder by deranged Marxist thugs.
I'm not particularly concerned about the gays, immigrants, indigenous, "people of colour", etc., who are big boys and girls and quite capable of looking after themselves.
The frigging problem is the parasitical anti-poverty activists, labour activists, anti-capitalists and related riff-raff. They're the ones with no productive purpose in life who therefore set out to make life miserable for the rest of us. They're the ones who need to be informed once and for all that laissez-faire capitalism is founded on the principles of justice while their own system is the epitome of evil -- as both the theory and the history prove.
This is all further evidence as to why governments should cut off all funding for all activist groups immediately.

You have said what has needed to be said for a very long time in this nation. The whiners don't want the land, they all want the money and the infrastructure built by our very courageous, very determined ancestors. Our ancestors built for the good of the country that their kin would live in; not for the likes of this whining sniveler. Most of the native north American Indian people liked the improved live styles that our ancestors shared with them.
This gal does not strike me as the type of person who would build a sod shack on 40 acres, out in the middle of nowhere, live in it and do without until the first crop she planted matured and was sold. Not much 'pioneer' in her genes if I know anything about character.

Incredible.
I'll agree to open borders when Kidane's group agrees with no gun regulation and no social assistance programs.
Which, incidentally, is the central flaw at the core of Kidane's group: They have complete and utter contempt for the wealth of the working people of all nations. Their concept of human respect is one-way only; from the citizen to the immigrant, always.
Lilley's question about whether or not Kidane avails of services was pure gold.

Posted by: UofT Student at May 20, 2011 10:05 AMSUN NEWS READS SDA!
Last night, Brian Lilley gave an on-air hat tip to Small Dead Animals during his show, Byline. He mentioned that he'd received a gigantic amount of feedback to this No One Is Illegal story, and that, thanks to Small Dead Animals [h/t batb two days ago] he’d learned that Kidane is American.
(I think Lilley’s show is excellent and it’s fast becoming one of our favourites—but I think his researchers need to be more on the ball. E.g., How could they have missed that Kidane isn’t even Canadian? This info is easily found on the internet. Likewise, re the Insite story: its own web site admits that, despite nursing supervision, there are 200 OVERDOSES a year. Huh? I also think that the fact that the addicts supply their own, illegal “medication” should have been really emphasized. It was mentioned only in passing and the implications could easily have been overlooked: many, if not most, of the ILLEGAL substances taken into Insite have been acquired by THEFT. All it takes is one good anecdote—like Jack Layton mentioning Iggy’s 70% absence rate—to severely wound, if not obliterate one’s opponent! Thorough research provides the ammunition.)
lookout - as someone who hangs around SDA a lot I do find that flattering (the idea that someone who knows someone who knows Mark Steyn might have read one of my comments sends my heart a-flutter), but the fact is that a very simple Google search reveals the fact that Lou-Anne (she'll always be Lou-Anne to me) is a yank. So you're right, that's slightly weird.
Anyway, I have to get Sun. If I could get Sun and the Turner Classic Movie Network I might start watching TV again.
Posted by: Black Mamba at May 20, 2011 3:51 PMYes, despite not being perfect (!), SUN’s a breath of fresh air: they cover topics straight up—they call it “straight talk”—and they don’t give the Conservatives an easy time. Ezra was really tough—and rightly so—with “I’m James Moore and You’re Not”. I guarantee SUN will be worth your while. We haven’t watched TV news, except for FOX, for years: the “all left, all the time” news is very bad for one’s blood pressure.
Since I posted in this thread the other day, I actually watched the entire interview with Luam Kidane.
Her most obvious contradiction -- that if you believe no one is illegal then you can't argue at the same time that "Turtle Island" is "occupied" -- was pointed out by Sarnia Jim on May 18 @ 10:18 p.m.
The other thing that struck me was that, in response to any question from Brian Lilley, Kidane would always answer that she wanted him to define or clarify his terms. However, she herself would throw around the usual left-wing nonsense like "dignity", "exploitation", and even "race" without any clarification at all.
It is a standard leftist tactic to use vague and undefinable terms like "dignity" when pushing their irrational agenda.
And as always, opposition to capitalism is biting the hand that feeds.
The Marxists' goal (to use a religious reference) is to rule in Hell rather than work productively and be happy in Heaven.
