Not Watching For The Asteroid

Back in the day, legacy media could bury an inconvenient story.

Those days are over.

Kate,

I can see the hedline for tomorrow's papers:

Jack Off message? Ooops, I mean: Jack Off Massage!

Too sticky? Perhaps.

Posted by: Private at April 30, 2011 2:49 AM

"Jack off message" is funny enough all by itself. Maybe not as good as "premature Jack Layton" but its up there.

Posted by: daryl at April 30, 2011 2:51 AM

No happy ending for Jack Layton.

Posted by: rg at April 30, 2011 2:59 AM

Hey,

Has anybody asked Jack if he claimed his massage on his City Councillor health plan?

Posted by: Private at April 30, 2011 3:22 AM

Yeah, remarkable that CBC can sit on a story for 15 years and Sun gets it out in 15 days.

Posted by: WalterF at April 30, 2011 3:24 AM

Watch Liberal Media ala CTV and CBC bury this story so deep it'll meet their moral compass in the dirt?

Posted by: Rose at April 30, 2011 3:25 AM

BOOM!

What a long way we have come from the coffee shop talk as the main medium for which political gossip is spread. Wouldn't it be funny if the social media that Jack has embraced so much (like those annoying youtube commercials) comes back to bite him in the backside?

Posted by: Kdog at April 30, 2011 4:07 AM

Re: Private@3:22 a.m.

You know, that's just the sort of thing an "entitled to my entitlements" lefty would do - submit a receipt for reimbursement. Wonder if there's anyway to check City Council records before Tuesday?

Posted by: DN at April 30, 2011 4:35 AM

The legacy media can't bury the reference to the story, but, with the notable exception of Sun, they are going heavy on the denials, and painting Layton as a victim, while comprehensively eliding the actual facts and evidence and circumstances and details that necessitated the denials in the first place. Olivia Chow, for example, is quoted just about everywhere:

"No one was more surprised than my husband when the police informed him of allegations of potential wrongdoing at this establishment."

As is Layton's lawyer:

"The facts are that Mr. Layton had obtained a massage from a massage therapist, but had no knowledge whatsoever that the therapist's location may have been used for illicit purposes."

What the legacy media isn't covering at all is the fact that even if you take every single one of the denials completely at face value, and assume that he's telling the absolute truth -- that he visited an Asian-crime-connected house of prostitution completely inadvertently -- it still leaves a very serious and troubling issue: If Jack Layton, a city councilor at the time who lived in downtown Toronto just a short distance away from the joint in question, was completely unaware of the fact that legitimate RMTs don't typically have their clients lie naked on mattresses (as opposed to massage tables) in rooms with glass panels that allow the proprietor to check on his "workers" to see if they're in danger, or whether they're performing more expensive acts and keeping the profits, on the secretive second floor of a dingy place above a bookstore, this raises very, very serious questions about his judgment, particularly in light of the fact that he's within arms length of the levers of power of a G8 nation.

This issue isn't a joke, it's about the judgement and general wherewithal of a guy who has a shot at being our PM. For that reason - and this is a side note - I really wish that a particular group of eight or ten regulars here -- all of them male -- who use this story as an opportunity to serially deliver dumb, un-funny, prurient puns would just can it.
Enough already with the "Jack off" crap. Every conceivable dumb permutation has been stated and repeated already.

COAB.

"Premature Jack Layton"

Kathy Shaidle - author of the best "Jack-off" quip of the lot - will be shocked to learn that she's no longer female, EBD.

I don't come to SDA for lectures on etiquette from on high. While you're quite correct to point out that this is indeed a very serious issue, it's also a humourous one; I, at least, laughed a great deal at many of the "Jack-off" comments from aforementioned nondescript delinquent "males".

You don't like it? I'm betting that makes you an SDA minority. Again.

Posted by: Incisor at April 30, 2011 5:25 AM

Yeah, well, Kathy also has something to say on issues, Incisor. Like Kate - or commenters Rita, or batb - she typically doesn't cover an issue by compulsively wallpapering with a series of bad puns while - and this is the key part - ignoring the real-world implications of the issue.

In this thread, for example, the topic is the fact that the legacy media can no longer completely bury an inconvenient story. I addressed the topic, and added as a *side note* - I used the phrase - that I wish certain guys would stop it with the retarded and obvious attempted puns.

Look at all of Kate's posts on this "incident": every single one of them has POV, and an incisive point to make. Prurient, un-funny, senseless, compulsive, serial "bar-har-har" punning is ultimately off-topic and supplants the issue at hand.

One more thing: if a pun is both obvious and dumb, it's not actually a pun.

"Jean Chretien and the Sidewinder Report

By Ann Jane Gray

In this WatchDog article, I will examine Prime minister Jean Chretien's connections to those companies and individuals mentioned in the Sidewinder Report. The Sidewinder Report, as readers recall, examined links of Chinese-triads and the Chinese government to Canadian-based corporations.

Jean Chretien's employment by Gordon Capital from 1986-1990 was his first public association with individuals identified by the Sidewinder Report as a threat to Canada's public security. Chretien's position as an advisor was a lucrative one and left him a wealthy man.

Chretien's ties to Gordon Capital continue to this day, in the person of Marc Fung, son of Gordon Capital's former vice-president during Chretien's tenure, Robert Fung. Marc Fung travelled with the federal Liberals on Team Canada trips to Asia and was, as of May 2002, an aide in the Prime Minister's Office.

Gordon Capital is one of the financial companies used in the Sidewinder Report as a case study on the links between China, Hong Kong billionaires and Canadian financial institutions that are "clearly worrying for Canada's national security". The RCMP's concern arose over Li Ka-Shing, the father of the owner of the company, Richard Li."

EBD has just had his Damascene moment! Next thing he'll be asking us to give absolution to Layton. After all the man is basically an atheist, how can we hold him to the same standards we as Christians hold? By the way, EBD, I'm a Catholic, not a Puritan! Just what did you expect, an essay on the Fall of Man and the meaning of sin?

The g-search in the videos first result says that JL denies the allegations. That is not what he says in the video statement he gave. Nowhere in the statement HE gave in BC does he deny the incident happened. He just claims it to be old time politics.

Posted by: Gord Tulk at April 30, 2011 7:24 AM

Well, Jack can't deny something if he's pictured caught in the act now can he? That would mean he'd have to give up his mantra as an honest politician.

Posted by: Liz J at April 30, 2011 7:34 AM

I would probably have given him the benefit of the doubt if it were not for the fact that he's a professional politician, for whom lying (no pun intended) comes (again, no pun intended) naturally.

Google seems to have switched their allegiance to the NDP. Last week there was a large number of Liberal party ads embedded on their news site. In the past few days, since the orange crush meme started, the ads appear to have switched in favour of the NDP.

It also seems, to me, that there is an inordinate frequency of embedded ads for the NDP within misc YouTube videos.

Why would Google embed a political endorsement by a trades union on their news site? Or any other form of advocacy?

Posted by: signaller222 at April 30, 2011 7:51 AM

It could all be settled if the "regestered massage therapist" came forward and said it was a legatimate massage. I am sure a "professional" would have his name on record, address, time, date, area of treatment, number of visits etc.... and a business licance in building regestered in city hall.

There; now it is up to Jack to get that information public as soon as possable. If he can not, then let the press have its way. He might become "religious" right now, "praying" that she come forward and tell what happened. I am quite sure the police have her name on record in the same police report.

These are the questions that must be answered - yet the MSM will not ask one of these questions - except perhaps Sun TV.

Posted by: Clown Party at April 30, 2011 7:52 AM

For those here -- and in the media, ahem, Andrew Coyne (who's too closely allied to the Trudeau thing, vis a vis his niece, Sarah Elisabeth Trudeau-Coyne, to be in any way objective) -- who think that it's lewd and rude of SunTV to break this story, there's a lot more here than meets the eye.

IMO, SunTV's breaking this story isn't chiefly about Jack's moral "lapse" by exposing himself in a "massage parlour." It's actually about his and Olivia's troubling connections to dubious outfits which, I suspect, have the potential of compromising Canada's security. The whole Layton-Chow Chinese Connection, CSIS's concerns about foreign government interference in Canadian politics, Sidewinder, etc., etc. should raise a few eyebrows -- and an urge by members of the Canadian media to investigate a little deeper.

'Only problem is, with the exception of Lord Black and his National Post, investigative reporting is as dead as a doornail in the legacy media in Canada except when it comes to the CPC.

Thank God for SunTV that's willing to do the necessary dirty work. And who cares if Andrew Coyne's offended?

There are a lot of unanswered questions raised that I do hope that Sun News will start to ask over the weekend and into next week or for as long as it takes to peel back the layers of jack Layton and the NDP in this country.

Here's a quote of how Jack! thinks:

"...What about the legitimacy of the democratic process, yeah, what about it?..."

http://www.stephentaylor.ca/2008/11/transcript-of-ndp-conference-call/

Read it all if you want an inside look at Jack Layton in action, while he attempts to do a back-door take over of a legitimately elected government. Ask yourself what he's sold you out for to get Quebec votes for his Party this time around, to do it all over again.

Tell yourself that "he's a nice guy". Yeah, Layton and Mulcair - Dr Jekyl and Mr Hyde.

EDB is right of course, but that didn't stop me from yukking it up last night on twitter (@chadvector). It was immature but extremely fun just watching the hatred in the responses from NDP supporters.

But in the harsh light of day, this is much more than an embarrassing scandal. Organized crime, extortion, lack of character and judgement -- it's all in play against Layton.

The champion of the downtown Toronto poor didn't know about rub and tugs while on city council? Baloney. I was a naive farm kid in Winnipeg at the time, and I heard whispered tales about going "shiatsus", wink-wink.

Let me see if I have this straight.

Jack, who together with his wife, make 150K per year and is so concerned with spending money that he lives in subsidised low income housing, goes for a legitimate massage where he can't get a receipt that his insurance company reimburse the fee.

Perhaps that is the question SUN should be asking - "Mr. Layton, did you get receipts from this massage parlour and if so, did your medical insurance cover the cost."

If the answer is no, there is proof he knew what kind of place it was.

Posted by: mrtisaduffer at April 30, 2011 10:12 AM

I must respectfully disagree with EBD regarding the numerous puns and slightly off color comments. I think it is fairly well ackowledged that any legitimate event that causes ridicule undermines the persons credibility. Jack has handled this thing badly. Any time a scandal rears its head the first thing to do is ackowledge your mistake, context it (this happened a long, long time ago and has never happened since) and then apologize. To not take ownership like he did, issue an accusation of a smear through his wife and then have his water carriers in the media provide cover is exactly the best way to make sure it will not die and give license to everyone to ridicule him. And that is what is happening.

Posted by: bocanut at April 30, 2011 10:37 AM

Let me get this straight.
Jack layton was a Toronto councillor in 1982.
Jack Layton went to a rub and tug in 1986.
Jack Layton says he did not know that the establishment was of ill repute.

Jack Layton is a liar.
It is the job of a city councillor to know the zoning bylaws/areas of the city.
And ALL city councillors know EXACTLY where the rubby dub areas of any city are because city councils are always trying to clean them up.

But the really mind-boggling thing to me about the self-made socialist, Layton, is that such a large number of voters appear to want a guy who lived in subsidized housing a good part of life as PM.
Truly bizarre!
Has this country really fallen that far?

Posted by: rockyt at April 30, 2011 10:41 AM

EBD, Yukon Gold and Brian Mallard all make good points.

Jack's indiscretion has possibly very serious implications in him being compromised from a security and criminal standpoint.

However this story is just too sweet about the hypocritical moral busybody "social justice" mouthpiece being exposed for his hypocrisy for some of us on the right not to take a few little literal jabs. His people have dished it out for years and he has it coming.

Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at April 30, 2011 10:42 AM

The issue is extremely serious, as EBD has outlined, Layton is compromised and open to undue influence and pressure from sources which affect the decisions he makes if he were leader of this country.
If Layton had a shred of honor he would resign. Belittling this issue and trying to shrug it off merely show the shallowness of his character and that he does not have the integrity required to be the leader of this country and represent us on the world stage.

Posted by: Observer at April 30, 2011 10:50 AM

The issue here is one of honesty and integrity.
Being on Council, he must have been aware of he establishment's reputation. He must have been aware that they employed illegal immigrant women, and he must have been aware that there was a suspicion that some of the women were minors. In spite of that, he patrionized the place and found himself lying on a bed, nude and under the watchful eyes of two police officers who were conducting a raid. Furthermore, by patronizing them, he was exploiting illegal immigrant women, one of the most vulnerable groups in our society.
I have nothing but utter disdain for people like that.

This is a most interesting revelation about Jack,(albeit a non surprising one).
Just who is Jack...and Olivia for that matter, remains to be seen and should be uncovered prior to election day.
However and as many have pointed out already, Jack has displayed grossly inept judgement and by doing so has left himself wide open to being unsavourily coerced.
I'm sure its not his first indiscretion!

We had a premier here in BC who came out of the gate looking pretty impressive and showing promise.Unfortunately for him and Us he ended up with a drunk driving charge while vacationing.

He came home in tears, his ego shattered, and talking about resigning.
He SHOULD have.
The province and his party started a long downward spiral into political corruption and scandal never to recover under his watch.
So the unanswered questions that any jounalist worth their paycheck Should have asked were:

1) What happened to get this guy (in a position of tangible power) charged and not have it hushed up or be able to have his political machine quash it in its tracks? Money doesn't talk...it swears!
2) Why was he so devastated by this event.
3)Why did his policies and public transparency take such an unprecedented 180 turnaround?
4) and of course,What Really happened that night?

Number 4 is the real question .The changes in the man were of a Dr Jekyll/Mr Hyde proportion.

Personally I think this man was set up and compromised...perhaps more than a friendly evening and a few drinks with friends occured...perhaps visual proof of some indiscretion on the part of the victim.

Who knows and does it matter all these years later? I as a citizen of this province feel cheated as my vote and trust I feel were abused.

So something to consiser MSM when you so glibbly and giddily give these public figures who have or may have a rein on public policy and purse,a free pass.
MSM you have a job...a very important job acting as the watchdog of our proud way of life.

I believe it was President Reagan that said that Democracy could be lost in a generation and I believe that truer words were never said.

So to the MSM I say, Get out there and do your job with due diligence.

And to the electorate at large I say, Get out there and vote with due diligence.

Honestly, EBD, it’s almost impossible to talk about this story and not make fun of/a pun about Mr. Layton. (His name’s almost as malleable for nefarious purposes as Obama’s is.)

E.g., Off the cuff, I said to my husband this morning, “This couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy: Jack’s revelling in being king of the castle, so to see his balloon being so thoroughly pricked is really delightful.” Then I realized what I'd done: whoops!

I don’t think the fact that this is an extremely serious issue—as in Jack being open to blackmail and extortion, etc.—and making fun of the main player, an arch hypocrite, who could end up as our PM, are in any way mutually exclusive.

I know my efforts are futile, but I submitted complaints to both CBC and CTV's website. Both had articles on the Layton Massage story that only reported on Layton's response to the issue and included NONE of the (sordid) details in the police report.

How do they call this journalism?

The left-biased media are falling over themselves to detune this career ending revelation. Never have I seen so many news reports using the word 'alleged'. The incident did happen, it is not 'alleged', it has been acknowledged by Mrs. Layton!
The hypocrisy of the media knows no bounds- over the last decade and beyond, I have watched the media relentlessly pursue and persecute right-wing politicians with smears based on dubious information and innuendo. Now we are seeing how the media ignores or omits information to protect one of their compromised champions.

This new information is important to Canadians as it reveals a character flaw in Jack Layton that makes him unworthy of a position of power.

Prime Minister Jack Layton? Somebody needs to turn the herd!

Posted by: Grant at April 30, 2011 11:46 AM

Yeah, those days might be over, but I guarantee that this will not hurt Jack. In fact, it'll likely make voters cynical about the other parties who probably fed this story to SUN.

Get ready for the NDP as the official opposition and perhaps the government on May 2nd! :) Oh and Harper keeps his minority if he wins...in which case he resigns. YES!

The story came from a former cop who was on the scene and who filed the report.

I don't think the story will have much of an effect.
If you are voting for Jack IMO you have already gone off the edge of reality. It will be a conspiracy of the CONS-CRAP-CONBOT and Fox News North. Throw in anti-immigrant and misogynistic for good measure.
The only problem I see is it may make some Liberals stay at home rather than switch.

Funny how something that was shoved down the memory hole cab come back.

This story is not new.

This story was mentioned in a blog posting that I am searching for ... it was posted sometime in the last 5yrs and came from a story written in a Toronto paper about the raids and the Layton connection.

The re-appearance is only new in the manner of its being precipitated by the release of the police notes to SunNews.

My question is .... how did this remain in the memory hole until now?

It happened in 1996, not 1986.

The puns and jokes at JL's expense don't bother me,he deserves the ridicule. It IS a serious charge, though, and speaks to the moral character of the guy, especially having his wife, whom he was obviously cheating on, do the explanations.

She probably wouldn't have been quite so forgiving if he'd brought home a special present from the whore house, like syphillis or AIDS,but you never know,if Olivia's anything like Jack, the end may justify the etc....

I've researched JL many times on the 'net, and could never find out much about WHO he is or where he came from. His history seems to start when he became a Toronto city councillor,so I assume he was a student until then.Never a mention of even a Summer job.

So, the Nation contemplates handing the highest office in the land to a man who's never earned a non-taxpayer provided dollar in his entire life, never had to budget, never known the adversity of a job loss or layoff.

He's another "Count" without the fancy title or lineage.

Canada doesn't need this fool in the PM's office.

Sadly, I have to agree. Anyone with his/her head screwed on straight had Layton pegged as a lying sleazeball long before this sordid crap came into play. Those who planned to vote NDP are life-long socialists afflicted with terminal stupidity or relative newcomers to the game intoxicated by the promise of something for nothing.

Layton could be caught on tape setting fire to a basket of kittens and it wouldn't affect his political career one iota.

Potential prime minister gets handjob from underage prostitute, where's the story?

Posted by: bob at April 30, 2011 12:10 PM

I really hope that this wasn't a one-shot *ahem* story from Sun News. Though I find it wildly amusing to read and add to the smart remarks, this story isn't significant enough to make it through the day on its own without additional information.

If this is to be considered a 'real' news story Sun News needs to publish...

1). The name of the girl in the room with Layton. Her citizenship status, age, and criminal record. Innuendo doesn't cut it. If she had multiple charges for prostitution this is considerably more damning. And that's probably in the cop's notes that Sun News has.

2). If there were prostitution charges brought against this establishment. It is suggested in the story, but not stated. Did the place have any legit massage therapy staff? The place looks pretty dodgy, but you'll notice, it's now home to a dentist. The story changes dramatically if there were RMT certificates on the wall. Presumably there is a board that certifies legit massage therapy businesses, and can verify the status of this establishment.

3). Did the place issue receipts? I.E., did Layton claim it on his medical expenses?

4). They need to get the original police reports. Was anyone else busted on prostitution charges in this particular raid? A photo of the inside of the establishment should also be in the original reports. A photo of this place will either confirm or invalidate much of the speculation.

5). They need to troll though the ads in the back of local papers looking for escort/massage ads for this place. If they ran a salacious ad in the local rag every week, that says something.

6). Is it credible that Layton didn't know this was a whorehouse (if indeed it was) ? Is there any documentation that suggests otherwise? Things brought up at council, etc.

7). The cop should probably go on camera. I understand his not wanting to, but it does look a little dodgy to not appear publicly.

8). What links between gang activity and this business were proven in court? Similarly, were other people extorted at this particular site?

9). Where does the story originate from? Was this a rumour in Ottawa that several people had repeated and someone finally looked in to, or did someone from a particular party bring it to Sun News' attention. Given the timing of this story, that's significant.

and finally, I'd ask CSIS, off the record, if this is a concern to them and if they knew about it.

IMHO the story of this election will be the exposure of the legacy media and the role twitter played in their downfall.

I have thoroughly enjoyed watching as @katewerk has destroyed the feeble arguments of all the usual suspects.

It has gotten so bad that this a.m. @kady is reaching out to Halifax hookers to discount the police account of events. This despite the copious notes the officer provided Sun News.

As far as journalism goes, the average commenter here at SDA seems to have a better grasp of the implications of this story than the whole PPG combined.

As in, guestions of judgment, potential exposure to blackmail, supporting the exploitation of vulnerable immigrant women, the hypocrisy of publicly championing immigrant and womens rights while behaving quite differently privately, the apparent inability to distinguish between a therapeutic massage clinic and a sleazy rub-n-tug...

Meanwhile, lord journalist on high, @acoyne himself, bashfully ponders if this is any of our business.

Just watch when they start losing their jobs. A hue and cry will go up bemoaning the loss of all this investigative journalistic talent...except these assholes haven't truly investigated anything in years.

Turning a self-important, bombastic, bag-of-wind into a figure of fun is very satisfying. If there was time for a more thorough evaluation of his character and past dealings to make it to the media, with the same prominence accorded to Mr. Harper and Mr. Ignatieff, this story might have the desired effect. But I fear that there will not be time to get much beyond the joke stage.

He got a mostly free pass for most of the campaign because until recently, it was accepted that the NDP would come in third as usual. Plus he had a cane and this prostate thing, it would have been shabby to knock the politician that people of all political persuasions "would most enjoy having a beer with".

So we'll see how it plays out.

I've just sent the following to the CBC Ombudsman:
__________________________

I’m writing to file a complaint about CBC’s coverage of the Jack Layton/Massage story.

I’ve just listened to the noon news on CBC Radio2: it was altogether slanted in Mr. Layton’s favour. Not only were the most damaging details omitted—typical CBC strategy—but only Layton and his wife, Olivia Chow’s, responses—in full spin—were featured. And the CBC considers this professional journalism?

Here’s the SUN story: [I included the full text to the CBC. SDA readers may see the full text on the thread below this one.]

"By SAM PAZZANO ,Toronto Sun

"FIRST POSTED: FRIDAY, APRIL 29, 2011 9:18:44 EDT PM

"TORONTO - Jack Layton was found laying [sic] naked on a bed by Toronto Police at a suspected Chinatown bawdy house in 1996, a retired Toronto police officer told the Toronto Sun.

"The stunning revelation about the current leader of the New Democratic Party comes days before the federal election at a time when his popularity is soaring. . . ."

If this report is true, wouldn’t this situation put Mr. Layton in an extremely compromised position, security-wise? At the very least, it is the CBC’s obligation to check out the facts of the case—not deep six them. If this unsavoury revelation had anything remotely to do with Stephen Harper—whom the CBC treats with an utterly disrespectful and shameful disdain, as in persecution—this story would have legs—as on an octopus.

What else is new? I’ve been in contact with several CBC Ombudsmen over the decades: “Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose”. Could it be that things might be different this time? I’m hoping for change!

There was another 15 year old incident by an MP that made the news, back in 2008.

Tom Lukiwskis drunken private video of him making disparaging remarks about a political opponent.

Anyone remember Tom Lukiwski being dragged through the mud with wall to wall coverage for weeks, until he tearfully begged for absolution from the media?

So there is a bit of a media template for old news by sitting members of Parliament - and considering that Lukiwski was not a party leader and potentially the next PM, perhaps this deserves even a bit more coverage than the old Lukiwski news

I'm crossing my fingers that they'll be something new this morning and something else this evening.

Right now, it's kinda easy for the rest of the media to just blow this off *ahem* as smear tactics, etc. Sun News needs to go above and beyond on this story (which I think they already have to some extent) and the best way they can do that is dominate the news cycle this weekend with ever more bits of the story.

Besides Handjobs by illegal immigrants Jack's Other Hidden Agenda...Apr 29, 2011 – 8:28 PM ET | Last Updated: Apr 29, 2011 8:35 PM ET

NDP’s hidden constitution opposes profits, backs ‘social ownership’

With the NDP’s public election platform already packed with more than 200 extreme, unworkable, radical and mostly undesirable promises, it might surprise some to learn that Jack Layton’s current power trip packs at lot more baggage under the floorboards.

How much more can there be? They’ve got plans for what amounts to a 10¢-a-litre cap-and-trade tax on gasoline, doubled pension plan contributions, corporate tax increases, plus a long list of plans and schemes to newly regulate pharmaceuticals, banking, oil, food, telecom, railways and many other industries. As for monetary policy, not mentioned in the platform but recently the subject of comment, Mr. Layton says that he wants to maintain an “arm’s length” relationship with the Bank of Canada, although he apparently at the same time intends to jawbone the bank over interest rates and the value of the dollar.

This is all bad enough, but now let’s have a rummage through the baggage rack and under the floorboards. We’re looking for plans Mr. Layton didn’t mention in the platform, long-standing NDP agenda items, ideological positions they don’t talk much about but which underlie everything the party does. Does the NDP have any “hidden agendas”?

The CBC’s Leslie MacKinnon recently reported on the NDP’s official constitution, a 2003 document that specifies why the NDP exists. It turns out the NDP constitution is itself a hidden agenda.

First, here’s a core statement from the preamble outlining the “principles of democratic socialism” that guide the party:

That the production and distribution of goods and services shall be directed to meeting the social and individual needs of people within a sustainable environment and economy and not to the making of profit;
To modify and control the operations of the monopolistic productive and distributive organizations through economic and social planning. Towards these ends and where necessary, the extension of the principle of social ownership….
The New Democratic Party is proud to be associated with the democratic socialist parties of the world and to share the struggle for peace, international co-operation and the abolition of poverty.

This story really isn't a shocker, as Jack gave most people the creeps, this just confirms he's a creep.

As far as whether or not it will hurt the NDP at the polls, it will. Only the most dedicated socialist will be able to vote for a sex addict, and this incident definitely proves that Jack Layton is a depraved sex addict.

One last thought; ask yourself if you could vote for your preferred party - whether it be Conservative, Liberal or Bloc - if the leader of that party was found to be a depraved sex addict who takes advantage of desperate young immigrant women? I know I couldn't.

The Metro free newspaper's front page of their weekend edition (last one before the election) is an NDP ad. It says in small letters that it is a paid political ad, but it comes across, to me at least, as part of the Metro campaign for the NDP. I'm sure it was planned that way weeks ago. Metro has a left-wing slant, just like the Edmonton Journal and other papers in that chain, and this really amounts to an endorsement by them of the NDP. The left-wing media is really pulling out all the stops for the NDP.

Brief to NDP supporters: "When commenting in news threads/blogs, identify yourself first as a "Conservative/Liberal" and then add the NDP talking point... example: "I'm a conservative but I don't believe that the media should be exposing the private lives of politicians even though they were cheating on their wives in illegal "rub-and-tug" establishments with Asian girls who were busted for prostitution only a week before... It's believed that the girl in question was a union member and that Jack submitted receipts for his "massage" to OHIP through his civic benefit provider. After that, state how you're voting for the NDP. Use some righteous indignation in your comments. Criticize the media for bringing the topic up."

Posted by: syncrodox at April 30, 2011 2:50 PM

The timing on this thing was bad. It was a given that the legacy media was going to ignore this, but one weekend isn't enough time for this to really percolate through the social media. Climategate did have a longlasting effect, but it took a few months for the news to get out. I'm guessing there are plenty of left-wing blogs written by people of colour who would be interested in exploring this further. It's the story of an old white man who preaches morality and racial harmony who is caught apparently exploiting a young immigrant woman of colour while a white police force turns a blind eye, the white legacy media tries to cover things up, and largely white feminist groups pretend the whole thing never happened. It's a good story, but these things take a while to develop on the blogs.

'To be fair, what's the truth on Mr. Harper's wife having an affair with an RCMP officer/bodyguard/driver?'
WTF!
to be fair??--to be fair?? Did you just make this up? Are you at home sobbing? Yes, your leader has frailties!
To be fair- you have all the attributes of a dipper.

This massage parlour is located in the riding of Trinity-Spadina. The MP for this riding must be fuming. Her name,Olivia Chow.

If I was Jack my main concern would be her,not what the public thinks.

Who says the NDP is a party with no new ideas?

From Ed Broadbent's "ordinary working Canadians", to E. Jack's "ordinary jerking Canadians".

That's progressivism!

Posted by: Observer at April 30, 2011 3:32 PM

Jack did not just stumble into this parlour. He must have been aware of the illicit activities. The Mackenzie Institute did a research paper in 1995 concerning prostitution,strippers,lap-dancing,etc. Jack was mentioned as working closely with the club owners, and also having an unusual relationship with a former dancer. This may well have been above board and professional (no,not that way). However,it does indicate that Jack wss knowledgable about the sex trade at that time.

I contend that Jack went into that parlour under the cover of darkness with his eyes wide open. He was a married city councillor. Anyone in his position should have not come with-in a 100 yards of the place. This transgression shows an alarming lack of judgement and integrity, and likely some issues with women and his own pride.

Jack should do the right thing and resign to spare his family and his party any further public humiliation. I truly feel sorry for Olivia. Sun Media did not put a naked Jack in that bed. Jack did it on his own.

No one with functioning synapses could believe that everything was legitimate. However, one might call Jack "Teflon Jack" (aside from some rather rude titles) because nothing is allowed to stick to him. This man came from a well-off politically oriented family, rode to work on a bike while he used a limo to transport his paperwork, lived in subsidized housing and his policies will bankrupt (morally and financially) the average citizen. People should be mortified this crook was even allowed to run.

Amazing when you google search Jack L ... As soon as you hit the L, how fast 'massage' comes up.

Layton was in a Triad Whorehouse getting a hand job from an immigrant prostitute at 9:30 at night. One of the same whorehouses that was part of an organized crime crackdown by Metro Vice.

How much influence does the tape of this hooker/client sex act have on Layton? How many times has it been used to leverage his cooperation? What will the government of China do with it? How badly will this tarnish the professional reputation and judgement of Canada's elected officials?

Cut his security clearances and restrict his travel until CSIS has done a complete investigation.

Posted by: Patsplace at April 30, 2011 4:33 PM

what's the truth on Mr. Harper's wife having an affair with an RCMP officer/bodyguard/driver?

Even IF that were true, since when are affairs illegal?

Being found to be in a common body house is illegal,(it's a summary offence) clothes on or not.

Posted by: Oz at April 30, 2011 4:35 PM

"Mr. Harper's wife having an affair with an RCMP officer/bodyguard/driver?"

This is not a rumour. This is one of your sticky night time fantasies about a woman far better looking than anyone you'll ever get your clammy, hairy little palms on.
Although for sheer stupidity, I have to hand it to Ted's comment about how this might help Layton. Yes, indeed, right now politicians are bugging their cop buddies to get something like this in their files to help them on to victory. What a maroon.

Happy Birthday to our honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Stephen Harper.

How many bags of cash to get the Liberal Leaders framed pictures to hang in a strip joint?

All politicians need not worry about black mail. Just come clean. Cannot be worse than the Italian PM talking point.

CP24's news-crawl mini-reports are saying a criminal investigation has started into how the police notes came into the Sun's possession. It doesn't say who's launching/running the investigation whether city or province.

As Kathy Shaidle mentioned, isn't being caught in a bawdy-house even when not caught in the act a criminal offence? So shouldn't there also be a criminal investigation over why charges weren't laid then against Councillor Layton? I think it's also fair to ask if the Councillor used city funds or insurer funds for what was, obviously, not a genuine medical massage even if he didn't receive a sexual favour in its course.

He won't get burnt again.
I'm sure his i's are dotted and his t's are crossed.

Gord Tulk: "Batb: deb coyne had pet donate his sperm - they were not lovers - at least that is the public story as I remember it."

You could be right, Gord. OTOH, Wikipedia says, "For years, [Coyne] dated former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau."

Wow. If PET donated his sperm rather than impregnate a woman he dated for years in the usual way, I'd say he's even more of a wimp than I thought.

I love how the trolls are on here trying to fling poo at Harper, Ford, anybody at all to deflect attention from Jack-o.

Hey retards. Everybody -doesn't- do it. Seeking entertainment from hookers is morally unacceptable behavior in single men, twice as unacceptable in married men, and as for politicians who are privy to state secrets, well that's a whole new level of dark and dangerous isn't it?

Your guy is no good, Lefties. He's -massively- unfit for the office he seeks due to sheer stupidity, AND he's a moral cripple.

Chew on it. Tastes gooood, eh? Now swallow.

Maybe he didn't inhale?

And don't be too hard on the media, after all it's not like he didn't eat a fictional communion wafer.

Every time I see the media try to bury one of these stories I compare it to their intense coverage of the fictional Wafergate story.
I don't recall any of them worrying about facts during that fiasco or running Harper's response.
It was just wall to wall smears from the poor MSM saps.

There has to be a joke in there about an NDP Rub and Tug Tax to pay for the NDP promises.
Forget the GST and the HST, how about a R&TST?

Or an HEST?

"Any buried inconvenient stories involving Nettie Wiebe? www.Electionprediction.org is giving her the nod for some reason."

In 2004, Wiebe was picked to get rid of Brad Trost in Saskatoon-Humboldt. Trost administered a severe spanking.

In 2006, Wiebe was dispatched to the more NDP friendly constituency of Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar to unseat uncumbent Carol Skelton. Wiebe was picked by the "experts" to beat Skelton, but fell far short.

In 2008, Wiebe was once again picked by those in the know to give a good trouncing to rookie Kelly Block. Guess what ... Wiebe loses for the third election in a row despite being hailed by the media as a "star" candidate.

Kelly Block has proven to be an excellent representative for her riding and Wiebe has her hands full despite the fact that there are many factors in her favour. The media conveniently neglects to make mention of Block's numerous accomplishments during her short time in Ottawa yet obsesses about her reluctance to attend so-called "candidates' forums" (NDP orchestrated shouting matches). The riding is made up of a number of poor neighbourhoods where the NDP promises of handouts and increased entitlements trump the Conservative approach of a strong economy to battle poverty.

Block's high visibility, especially in the rural areas should help her retain the seat.

I forgot to mention that in the riding of Saskatoon-Rosetown-Biggar, the Liberals and Greens have been totally non-existent. They usually run a half-a**ed campaign but, this time around, it's worse than pathetic.
