Canadian Media Polls You'll Never See

If the Liberals fail to form government after May 2nd, how long will Michael Ignatieff remain in Canada?
As long as it takes to say "pahk the cah in Hahvahd yahd"
Long enough for the next leadership convention
Until he thinks nobody's watching
He will not leave Canada. He will die here as a Martyr.

For a wonder I was in the majority.

Posted by: Revnant Dream at April 18, 2011 12:40 AM

Is he going to succeed in landing a UN post, or will he return to Harvard just in time to be obliterated by an ascending Tea Party Movement?

Posted by: WalterF at April 18, 2011 12:47 AM

I wonder how Iggy's polling numbers compare to Dions from last time around.

Posted by: farmer joe at April 18, 2011 12:49 AM

Well, we know he won't die here as a martyr...

Posted by: EBD at April 18, 2011 12:54 AM

His luggage has been moved from the basement to his closet.

Posted by: a different bob at April 18, 2011 1:00 AM

If he fails, will Shoshzana bother filling in the rest of her citizenship forms?

Will Iggy vote in subsequent Canadian elections, assuming he's not running personally (which he won't be)?

If he were forced to choose between his title and the Prime Ministership, how would he jump?

Posted by: Black Mamba at April 18, 2011 1:01 AM

The proper Arabic word you're looking for is "shaheed/shahid". Just FYI.

Posted by: jwkozak91 at April 18, 2011 1:08 AM

I suppose it depends on your definition of "in" and "Canada".

Posted by: ∞² at April 18, 2011 1:10 AM

If Iggy loses his seat ...he'll be gone by fri may 6th.
If he wins his seat but fails to form government,
he'll resign 1 day after becoming eligable for that golden pension plan.!
Either way ...classes don't start at Harvard until Sept.

Posted by: William in Ajax at April 18, 2011 1:21 AM

Folks will be lining up to register for his next class in Sept. 2012

He'll visit a bit until then, a few speeches, a wine tour, and step aside to give the new leader a chance to solidify his base.

The trouble with this, (for the Liberals) is that they've traditionally alternated between anglophone and francophone for a leader, and I don't see a lot to choose from on the other side of the aisle. Ask "the prince" Justin if he plans on being just a backbencher, his dad was a backbencher for only a few months prior to his assent to cabinet ... Don't pretend you don't know who I'm talkin' 'bout Willis....

Posted by: marc in calgary at April 18, 2011 1:28 AM

I'm with William in Ajax (hey, I used to live there!). Iggy will stick around until he gets his pension but only as long as he holds onto his seat; lose the seat and he'll be gone overnight. After all, he is the one who admitted that he had no investments or pension plan - he only came back so we could fund his retirement years.

So, my answer is "none of the above".

Posted by: Aviator at April 18, 2011 1:49 AM

Dear conservatives take a chill pill please. Why your communities split into NDP vs Conservative signs? Is shallow mind goes one extreme or another? You grew up in this great country, so what's your problem, why hatred for institutions that sustain this civil democratic society? Cut taxes to cash rich companies. You can't be serious saying that they will hire because of 3% tax cut not the market conditions. Ireland tried this and now is in shambles. Actually societies with well balanced taxation and strong public institutions (like Sweden, I have friends there who can vouch) came out best out of economic crisis, not that i suggest we have the answer - the system could be improved, but civic programs should be maintained. Do you Aviator make not enough money to hate poor so much? Or perhaps you, the blogger? What is you vision for the country? Ok. Low taxes or preferably none. Ok, so that poor sucker dies because he can't afford health care, or this single moms kids grow into future criminals you will keep in the brand new jail, because your lousy tax cut did not provide a daycare to that poor messed up soul. Ok you don't believe in CBC and Fox news canada will broadcast your message, like Berlusconi's money controlled media. Do really need more? is it just greed? or is Alberta winter sucks the soul out of you?

Posted by: russian at April 18, 2011 2:27 AM

Well, this should be fun. Be sure to pop back tomorrow, "russian".

Posted by: Black Mamba at April 18, 2011 2:32 AM

Harvard likes losers ? doubt it.
Affirmative action route ??? but,but !!!

Posted by: jalcalgary at April 18, 2011 4:38 AM

Remember, He only found Canada worthy to come back to when he was conned into thinking the Prime Ministers job was his for the taking. After May 2 , any other position he will deem to be beneath him. He'll be outta here like a scalded rabbit, back to the states or Europe, places that he feels are more intellectually compatible. Yet ironically, it'll be Canada that exposes him as the shallow phoney that he is.

Posted by: pkuster at April 18, 2011 6:25 AM

'Thought so, with Szuzsanna pushing the car all the way. I'm sure five years in Canada has been hell on earth for her, especially seeing Iggy in an entirely different light: 40 watts.

'Must be humiliating.

Bon voyage, dahlings!

Posted by: batb at April 18, 2011 6:58 AM

I don't know why we are so pleased that Ignatief will be booted out. He was our best friend for the last couple of years.

If a more formidable or at least likeable leader for the Liberals emerges, which seems probable, then we will yearn for the good old Iggy days when the CPC got a relatively free ride no matter what mistakes it made.

I have blind contempt for Liberals, but I don't have blind love for the CPC. The last couple of years have been disappointing (cue the excuses and whining about media bias and governing in a minority).

Posted by: old Lori at April 18, 2011 7:32 AM

I don't know if you are "russian" or not, but worked there for 3 years, and got to see first hand work of socialism. Not pretty. The key is less waste, less taxes, more for everybody.

PET Cemetery Survey Result.

9 out of 10 Liberals say,

>>> Recall Citoyen Kyoto Dionky.

“Thomlinson agrees that the Liberals have a case of what used to be called “great man syndrome.”

“Maioni says the Liberal Party has a tendency to look to its leader as a “white knight,” a leader who will guide the party to victory. “And when that white knight doesn’t materialize or deliver the gold, there’s not much room for that person anymore in the party,” she says.”

…-

“If Ignatieff can’t deliver win, will he stay chief?”

This says it all, he is just worried about "me" factor. I wonder if he will lose his own seat - that would be poetic-justice. Who is running against him anyway? Wish he/she would let us know how things are going in his ridding. I would love to see somebody replace him.

russian:

"Ok. Low taxes or preferably none” it will not be none, yet the Cons are the only political party that has lowered taxes - and all opposition parties would raise them and throw in Cap and Trade just to be sure they would get max. dollars from Canadians.

I Canada we have a free education system up to grade 12. I suggest you go back to about grade six [in Canada] and learn to write a complete sentence.

“Oh, those Russians….”

I watched Iggy's campain show yesterday in BC, he acted like a stand up comic, disparging the Prime Minister with lame remarks and then some Dork of a Liberal Clown came on and did a Hip swing and DOOT DOO Doodlle with Iggy and I thought how juvenile,, The Prime Minister takes all his campiagn announcements seriously and Iggy is having a good time at the Liberal Circus, according to the PPG.

Just saying

Posted by: Steven at April 18, 2011 8:30 AM

If the Liberals thought the Steffi legacy was bad for the party, the Iggy legacy will be far worse, far more toxic.

As of this morning, the NDP & Liberals are tied. Even if this doesn't hold until voting day, the liberal back room power brokers must already be apoplectic.

Till his MP's pension vests in January 2012.

Posted by: godot10 at April 18, 2011 9:03 AM

I enjoyed the article by US diplomat D Jones when he suggested that if an American who had lived the bulk of his adult life in another country had tried to return home to "the land he loves" and tried to run for president, he'd be laughed out of town.
If Iggy really loved Canada as he suggests, why did he stay away so long?

Well one guy that's probably 'rising up' (And screaming) is spooky dude himself, George Soros, the anti jew, jew.

He might be brilliant at making money but his planting of traitors like Barry and Idiotieff to destroy sovereign Nations is not as successful it seems.

Posted by: Right Honourable Terry Tory at April 18, 2011 9:06 AM

Here you go, russian. Kelly McParland explains the blaggard and bloviator Liberals’ nanny-state, big spending, butting into everyone’s business, big bucks for lefty interest groups, hug-a-thug agenda—and the Conservatives much more constructive plan for Canada.

NO HIDDEN AGENDAS by Kelly McParland at the National Post:

“Though neither could be called a fun read, the platforms recently released by the Liberals and Conservatives are deeply revealing. Nobody could work their way through these two documents and claim not to know what the parties are about. . . .

“Health care is just one of many areas where the Liberals want to do more, while the Tories want to concentrate on responsibilities they already have. The Liberal platform is absolutely jammed with ideas for more government.

“There will be access for the Internet for all Canadians; training for ‘digital life skills’ for the elderly and those with lower incomes; a new daycare plan; refinancing for the troubled First Nations University in Saskatchewan; a Canadian Clean Energy Partnership with the provinces; a cap-and trade system for greenhouse gas emissions; $1-billion in incentives for renewable power entrepreneurs; a Canadian Freshwater Strategy, more protection for marine areas; a ‘world-leading oil spill contingency plan’; a ban on new oil exploration in the arctic and oil tanker transport off northern B.C.; a ‘poverty reduction plan’ (that includes ‘a renewed focus on volunteerism’); a 100% budget increase for the Canada Council for the Arts; the restoration of two little-used arts programs ended under the Tories; the reinstatement of the Court Challenges Program, which finances [only left-wing] activist groups to sue the government; elevation of civil service pay equity to a human right; the revival of rural mail services curtailed for budget reasons; more aid money for Africa (and less for whoever the Tories are giving it to); and more. . . .

“It’s two very different views. The Conservatives believe Ottawa has a specific role in well defined areas of responsibility and should stick to them; the Liberals see themselves ranging broadly over Canada, putting their hand in where they think there’s a need. The Conservatives believe budget certainty is key to providing other services, the Liberals see it as important but not a game breaker. The Tories see Canada playing a strong, high-profile role in the world, the Liberals prefer a more muted, collectivist approach. Mr. Harper’s government sees plenty more areas to come down hard on law-breaking, Mr. Ignatieff ’s Liberals think the Tories are paranoid.

“You didn’t need a debate to figure out what these parties are about. It’s right there in black and white. It’s a distinct choice, and an important one.”

Thanks Terry, finally there are more noticing what is happenning. This creep of a man is using his billions to ruin countries where ever he wants, presently Canada is his object with his unleashing Avazz Tides etal around the gullible universities. This is scary people, if your one of the to lazy to vote crowd, you might be sorry this time. Anyone wh thinks Iggula is just a dope who can't finish a stupid jingle better wake up to his connections to Harvard and all the dirt that that institution has given us.

Great column by Kelly McParland, lookout.
Describes the Liberals perfectly.

The Liberal Party of Meddling and Muddling in people's lives for no good whatsoever, except to hear themselves yapping as self-important, pompous asses.

Go Harper go.

So, Sun News airs today and Rogers is not carrying it. They have no trouble airing Al Jazeera, but Sun News, a no go. Is there anything wrong this this picture?

Russian:

You are right, Ireland is a shambles economically, but that is a result of the banking system and incredibly lax housing planning.

Apart from that, you've got Ireland completely wrong in attributing its woes to low corporate taxes. The Irish are fighting to keep low corporate taxes because that is the only thing that has kept the economy afloat, by attracting the major IT, pharmaceutical and other multinationals. In the first ten months of 2010, Ireland had the second highest level of exports in the EU, only just behind might Germany and far ahead of everyone else, including much bigger countries like Britain, France and Italy (which also happen to have much higher corporate taxes than Ireland). Why do you think countries like Germany and France are so keen to see Ireland's corporate tax raised?

The only reason the Count got involved in calling an election was because he originally thought he'd have the job in one week, and then realized it was going to take a tad longer than that. He presumed that after being parachuted in to a Liberal riding without having to do any work, Canadians would just hand him the keys to Sussex drive. What a disappointment it must have been for him to realize that things didn't work like that.

So the Count eventually got impatient, and decided to give it a go. He has nothing to lose. If liberals win he is PM, if they don't, he heads back to academia. I suspect that in the end he got bored of the whole thing, hence the reason we have an election.

Next up sniffing for the job will be son-of-Trudeau, which is the last thing Canada needs if we are to be a modern successful country in this new century.

Posted by: TJ at April 18, 2011 11:16 AM

Being a true Liberal, he won't resign until his parliamentary pension kicks in.

Posted by: Burpnrun at April 18, 2011 11:32 AM

Judging by the polls the real question is not Iggy or Harper, its Conservative minority or Conservative majority.

What is you vision for the country?

Let me tell you what it isn't, Yakov. It isn't having my government intruding in my life on such a scale that it tells me what kind of light bulbs I can buy. "Civic institutions" sounds so much nicer than "bloated inefficient government bureaucracy", but when your precious "civic institutions" get that intrusive, it's well past time to call a halt to their eternal, inexorable expansion.

A. Coyne is a 'spoiler' in that he speaks out of both sides of his mouth - he is not to be trusted.
