The First American Prime Minister, Inspired

When Howard Dean appeared as keynote speaker at the 2006 Liberal convention, little did we know what an inspiration he'd turn out to be...

Iggy’s Viagra 2011 Campaign Rise Up! Rise Up! Rise Up!

Not too long ago another Liberal Leader told us, government had no business in the bedrooms of Canadians, but I suspect Canadians were brought as close to the sounds of Iggy’s boudoir, as they are ever going to get, at a campaign rally in Sudbury, where he made the rafters ring with his arousing screech to a crescendo of Rise Up – Rise Up – Rise Up.

Can we be forgiven if our instinct tells us that sounds eerily like someone waiting in overwrought anticipation of results, after ingesting a small purple pill . The line was delivered with such artistry, who could not believe that the line was not rehearsed many times.

It is also a reminder of another time at a Liberal leadership convention when Ignatieff attacked Dion for his failure to deliver as environment minister “You didn’t get the job done” ( little did we know then that these were also boudoir lines maybe rehearsed many times as well)

Dion’s reply then, which appeared to be just some mumble jumble of words at the time, maybe had a ring of truth and familiarity, when he said “you think it is easy being hard” or words to that effect.

Our only fears are that if Count Ignatieff ever gets in a position of power, that he addresses taxes for Canadians with the same invigorating command of Rise Up Rise Up . Fortunately that is unlikely to happen, purple pill or no purple pill, and the Count’s loyal subjects don’t appear to be responding to his command from on high, according to the polls.

Why did you think Iggy is channelling Jesus of Nazareth with his "Rise up, rise up Canada" the day before Palm Sunday in Kate's previous post?
The First American Prime Minister, Aroused but now inspired...

Isaiah 51:17

Arise, arise! Rise up, O Jerusalem

Steal your money, steal your VOTES, steal your country.

Pretty shabby campaign thus far if we are going to go ballot box stuffing.

When do they hand out flat screen TVs for your vote?

"Tell the daughter of Zion, Behold, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on an ass, and on a colt, the foal of an ass."

So if you behave like an ass, the correct response is to be a bigger donkey...

I think we all get that Iggy would be a disaster, the finer-tuned question for thinking conservatives is this -- how can we get both a majority government and a commitment to change course away from centrist and lawfare-tolerating policies? What incentive will there be for a triumphalist Harper and his inner circle to make these changes? Or do you even care?

Posted by: Peter O'Donnell at April 17, 2011 1:43 PM

The silent majority is finally rising up in Canada, Iggy...That's why Harper is 11 points ahead of you and your obsolete 1970's Trudeau big nanny state Liberalism.

Rise up to what? To complain it's not fair Harper is winning? That's a given from lefties and that's all we hear from the MSM...Which brings me to this:

Has anyone ever heard in the past the MSM warn the viewers about a potential Liberal MAJORITY that needed to be stopped?

Didn't think so

Posted by: Right Honourable Terry Tory at April 17, 2011 1:51 PM

Giggles and the almost dead guy showed the rise up clip and mocked the Cons for trying to turn this into a Howard Dean moment. They showed about 5 seconds and it was at the end as the people in attendance finally stood. Anyone seeing the clip for the first time would really be wondering what the hell the Cons were talking about. Deceit by omission once again by the MSM.

Posted by: RITFW at April 17, 2011 2:19 PM

Oh, how I love these precious moments. Too bad we didn't have longer to watch the Iggster stick his foot in his moouth. You know its bad when they drag Paul Martin and Jean C. out of the archives.
This must be truely painful to watch if your a Liberal supporter............Counting down the days for Iggy's exodus back to Harvard.

Posted by: MaryM at April 17, 2011 2:25 PM

At least Dean looked very much alive in his moment. Iggy not so much. He seems a bit like those 1st generation Disney animatronics.

Posted by: Woodporter at April 17, 2011 2:39 PM

Iggy is like his friend Barry: Completely out of their element. They are both trying to appeal to adults.

They should go back to Harvard where they mostly appealed to immature kids with some success.

Posted by: Right Honourable Terry Tory at April 17, 2011 2:55 PM

Too bad he didn't "rise up" to vote in the house more often, but he was never there.

"Rise up". David Duke would be so proud of Iggy

Posted by: Ownshook at April 17, 2011 4:12 PM

Check out that one old fella there Iggula, seems like he had a woodie when he finally rose up. I think the Iggster is mixing his meds. The red one during daylight Ig, not the blue ones in the daytime. One Iggula pill, for those who want to be ready to fail "anytime".

Posted by: bartinsky at April 17, 2011 4:27 PM

Ignatieff:

"Rise up!"
"Stuff ballot boxes at Universities!"
"Illegally display Liberal campaign material at polling stations!"
"Prevent Elections Canada from making sure it's a fair election!".
"When students cheat, blame Harper for not allowing students the right to cheat!"

"Fight for democracy now, by doing everything you possibly can do to subvert democracy!"

"I, Michael Ignatieff will teach you how -- I am first unelected leader of the Liberal Party of Canada and the first to endorse an undemocratic coup against a duly-elected government!"

"Fight for democracy -- the way the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea does!"

Maybe this is the game changer the Librano$ have been waiting for.

I hope so! ('Cause I don't think it's going to have the effect they have in mind ...)

I find it rather amusing to hear now, for the third week in a row, the glowing and gushy reports of how well the Igantieff campaign is performing, from the usual suspect horde of political pundits. Today again on Question Period, Jane Taber was giddy to report, another good week for Ignatieff, "running a good campaign". These same pundits (cheer leaders) are at a loss, or as Craig Oliver says "puzzled how Ignatieff is running a winning campaign" but the paradox is that it is going nowhere, or seems to be strangling itself, as substantiated by all the polls. Why are these pundits not able to detect the obvious flaws and glitches in the Liberal campaign, or are they just reluctant to report them?

Is this not reminiscent, and can we not draw the analogy with the old medical nugget where the surgical team slapped each other with congratulatory high fives, but their report was

"the operation was an awesome success but the patient died"

I am genuinely concerned, that if the Liberals have a bad week, their numbers may fall below the Green Party, and they will be in danger of losing a position in any future debates.
Is it time to turn off the pundits and just listen to the politicians without the adulterated benefit of pundit's partisan spin?

Thing is, Iggy is doing things that he is told to do, but are very un-Iggy to his personality.

Iggy just bend the needle on my cringe-ometer.

Posted by: Andy at April 17, 2011 6:07 PM

Peterb,

There isa Charlottetown -like disconnect between the punditocracy and the electorate. They keep pushing what they tink is the right thing, what they believe is the right thing and what they think they see.....thinking well, the people will get it.

There will be shock and slack jaws when the results roll in. Some will abandon ship in the days leading up to the vote in the hopes of maintaining some level of objectivity.

However, you would think that even though the Liberal campaign is largely gaffe free, at least to appearances, it is clearly missing he boat strategically and the message is wrong. Normally they would ask these questions. But the Liberal campaign is aligned with their own thoughts....Steve Harper is a big meanie and he doesnt deserve to be Prime Minister. Michael I is nice guy and an intellectual, just like us, and he deserves to be in power.

Just like Charlottetown, just like Fords election, the "elite" wont understand what happened, and quite frankly wont accept it. You see, none of their friends vote conservative so they cant figure it what is about to happen.

If, as hoped for, PMSH does get a majority of at least 10 seats, who will be the first media person to retire to spend time with their family. Sure hope that have lots of ems teams in those studios to handle the possible strokes, heart attacks, panic attacks and other health issues.
I usually got upset when coverage started here and the election was decided, but this time I hope they have to admit a majority for the PM with votes to be counted in AB and BC. still to come.

Robert of Ottawa at 2011 5:58 PM: "Thing is, Iggy is doing things that he is told to do, but are very un-Iggy to his personality"
==========================
You nailed it, Robert. He's just not comfortable in a politician's skin. That the Liberal Party simply anointed him as their leader, rather than letting the rank and file party membership choose a leader was a big mistake. Too bad for them and for Iggy. Thems that can, do. Thems that can't teach. He needs to go back to teaching and the Libs need to spend the next forty years figuring our how to shake off their elitist snobbery and make their party more in touch with ordinary people.

Stephen, I've been thinking about the Charlottetown Accord referendum often lately. The Canadian elite, and that includes union leaders and activists such as Maude Barlow and Margaret Atwood, think their views matter more than those of lower profile Canadian citizens. They think they can tell the rest of us what's what and how to vote. As with the referendum re. the Charlottetown Accord, they're about to get their comeuppance.

Thanks "lookout" for that link to blazing cat fur.
That was the funny of the day for sure. Iggy just keeps on giving. A comedians dream for sure.

I fear I'm finally forced to conclude he has lost it and is quite mad.

This is Canada, friends, not pre-Revolutionary France.

There are no issues in our fat, comfortable, self-indulgent middle-class nation that require anyone to "rise up".

Unless you think the abolition of the long-form census has dealt a crushing blow to all our aspirations and dreams of a brighter future for our children.

Nope
Doofus. Plain and simple

Is it just me or does anyone else find Iggy looks just like the Grinch when the Count does that extended pencil neck/lipless smile of his?

Rise up! And leave the room!

And the cigar goes to JJM...Exactly.

Apart from lacking jobs, which PM Harper has made his central election platform on, not much is urgent for Canucks to rise up for, except maybe warmer weather but the Liberals, NDP, Bloc and Greens all are again'st global warming...Losers!

Idiotieff!

Iggy's just lookin' ahead. he's got things figured out.

In a few weeks from now he can attach this little clip to his e-resume and apply for an acting job with Viagra.
