Conrad Black has a thing or two to say about this Bruce Carson "scandal":

Sorry, idiot here. Can somebody explain using easy-to-understand words in short sentences?

Posted by: Black Mamba at April 9, 2011 5:44 PM

"Felon" is an American legal term.

Posted by: Kate at April 9, 2011 5:47 PM

That is hilarious considering Ignatieff leads exactly the same bunch who sat on their hands while da boss and his cronies looted the treasury. They are still 'the party of thieves'.He seems to have forgotten he was an imported 3rd string pick because nobody with any ethics or morals wanted the job.Maybe one day the bootlickers Fife,Taber etc will ask where the missing millions are!

Posted by: greyburr at April 9, 2011 5:47 PM

"Felon"...Yes here in Canada they're called "victims of society"

Posted by: Dave at April 9, 2011 5:49 PM

In Canada felonies are called criminal offences, lesser offences that don't get you a criminal record are called summary offences.

Posted by: Oz at April 9, 2011 5:52 PM

Ah, thanks, I thought that might be it. My excuse is, I'm not running for P.M.

It's ex-convict Iffy and we don't have felony convictions in CANADA we have INDICTABLE Offenses. Honestly he's Americanize us so fast it shall make our heads spin. Second the Libs are campaigning on "No new prisons" rehabilitation is the answer yet they viciously attack that man who appears rehabilitated forking hypocrites.

Posted by: Rose at April 9, 2011 6:24 PM

"I didn't employ a five time convicted felon. He did," says Ig-referring to Carson

Has ex-judge Reilly heard about this?
He'll be saddened to know that his Liberal party doesn't believe in rehabilitation and giving someone who has paid their debt to society a second chance after all.

Posted by: Oz at April 9, 2011 6:27 PM

@batb

You're right on the money to point out the Conrad Black article in the National Post.

Posted by: Speedy at April 9, 2011 6:45 PM

Bruce Carson does appear to be a dishonest schmuck but, as noted, the Liberals are the champions of rehabilitation. Perhaps there is some old white guy exclusion to code of the bleeding hearts? OWGs, especially cranky, so-cons old white guys, are one of the few groups not worthy of any protection in the minds of progressives.

As Iggula, this clown-prince of the intelliduncia tries to demonize Harper he might just resort to the last clown-prince of the lieberals talking points which pretty much consisted of Steven Arper can't be trusted, I just ate Steven Arper. That worked for 75 seats for Dionky. If we wanted to start summing up "felons" there Iggula, your theiving Lieberals have an entire book written about lieberal felons cheats and liears, be warned, you will need Zhchossanna to read it to you little Iggy, it's BIGGER than War and Peace and that's just the Canadian tally.

Posted by: bartinsky at April 9, 2011 6:52 PM

If Harper could catch Iggy with one of these during the debates, oh wow. That's my prediction, there will be a rare debate turning point along these lines.

Posted by: scf at April 9, 2011 6:56 PM

Oh my God. Iggy wants to Americanize our Justice System. Can the Death Penalty be far behind?
This must be part of the Liberal hidden agenda. Or maybe he has just been out of the country too long. Maybe he really didn't come back for us after all.

Posted by: Largs at April 9, 2011 7:21 PM

IMO, this election will come down to a battle between how effectively Harper keeps the media from sabotaging his campaign and how well Ignatieff can control his self-centered elitism.

Harper has the edge because of experience; he has perfected the indifferent but slightly annoyed mode in dealing with his media antagonists. Besides, as an introvert, this comes naturally to him.

OTOH, I'll be surprised if Ignatieff makes it through the debates. It is always more difficult to suppress your nature than set it free. The stress of debates will this even more challenging.

Posted by: LC Bennett at April 9, 2011 7:23 PM

Just asking Mr. Ignatieff, but does the convicted of fraud soon to be sentenced LIBERAL Senator Raymond Lavigne reflect on your office in any way?

Yes, Mr Ignatieff, tell us now the party has reformed its ways since it looted the treasury during the tax and mispend Chretien era?

Yes, Mr Ignatieff explain how you're a better choice for PM of Canada, given you have zero executive experience?

His ignorant arrogance is quite something. Sorry, Mr Ignatieff while you were moderating seminar debates and writing books, we were here in Canada working our asses off to pay taxes to support the crony administration you think Canadians deserve. Yes, vote for Ignatieff as PM, let him choose your Canada.

Yes, Mr Ignatieff tells us more about your cap and trade platform idea and you intend to deal with the crumbling infrastructure of our prisons system, since you don't even mention, or cost it, in your red book.

If the NDP had any brains they would come after Ignatieff instead of running idiotic attack ads against the Tories, where they likely can't swing a single vote. Then, Ignatieff would drop like a stone. Go for it Mr Layton given you're the senior statesman of the group (well sort of, Mr Harper was first elected an MP in 1993).

OOOH, but the evil Harper might get a majority if you do that. Better to give Mr Ignatieff a free ride, and in the process dismantle the NDP once and for all, right?

Excellent comment Shamrock. You can also ask Iggy when they will name the dirty MP's and Liberal Candidates from Quebec who took dirty adscam money as revealed in the Gomery Commission.

O.M.G.

'Just watched Craig Oliver whore himself out for the Liberal$. He kept talking about Iggy, about how he was gaining popularity with the public, about how doing better was necessary to defeat Harper -- if that's what some people want, he added.

In relation to the upcoming debates, he talked only about Iggy and how this would be his first debate as leader of the LPC and how it might change perceptions -- obviously, going with his meme, for the better. Not one word about PM Harper or Jack Layton.

Don't they say that one sure proof of someone's lying is their eyes constantly shifting to the left, looking down? During the whole interview with the young CTV anchor, that's all Owl Eyes did. His eyes fluttered and he kept looking down to his left.

The only good news about this Liberal shill is that he looks spooked; I think it's dawning on him that the Liberal$ might not be forming the next government -- and that the Harper CPC might just be able to pull off a majority. When shown the latest polls, with the CPC polling over 10% above the Liberal$, he tried to sluff off the obvious, stuttering about how polls change all the time.

Canadians aren't stupid. They're aware that the Canadian media are pulling out all the stops to elect the Liberal$ as the next government -- and we don't like it. We don't like being manipulated and lied to, especially about a party that's robbed us blind, has never admitted it, and has never paid back all of the money in brown paper bags that came from our pockets to re-elect them when Jean Chretien was PM.

Judge Gomery was right when he said that the LPC operates within "a culture of corruption." It did then and it still does, with the Canadian media aiding and abetting it.

That's the scandal. 'Too bad the lamestream media are either too blind or too stupid to see it.

Posted by: batb at April 9, 2011 8:04 PM

Can you imagine if that were a Tory who uttered those words?? Wow. Good to know he still thinks about "his" country.

Posted by: The Trusty Tory at April 9, 2011 8:18 PM

O.M.G. Again.

At a rally today, Iggy said that Lester B. Pearson was a Canadian who also spent years outside of Canada.

But wait! Didn't Pearson spend time outside of Canada as a Canadian diplomat? Isn't that different than being a free agent, as Iggy was, swanning around the world as a writer, journalist, and sometime-professor, unaware of what was happening in Canada and calling himself an American into the bargain?

Ignatieff is stretching his credibility to its limits. What an idiot. What a puppet, simply mouthing the lying nonsense his handlers write for him. Despite the rah-rahs Craig Oliver's shouting out for him, Ignatieff's revealing how shallow his claims about his party are. It's difficult to make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, especially when your party's been robbing the purse blind.

Posted by: batb at April 9, 2011 8:22 PM

Regarding the latest polls: Interesting that NDP supporters would be willing to switch their allegiances, knowing that is really going to hurt the NDPs pockets as they lose vote subsidy dollars, seats and any parliamentary influence.

Also interesting that any support the NDP is gaining is in Quebec. Quebeckers have not yet forgiven the Libs ADSCAM.

I guess it's true, the Libs have become the NDP. Layton rarely attacks Iggy or the Libs. Yet he knows he's not going to attract the "right" vote. So, what's up?

Posted by: anne (not from cornwall) at April 9, 2011 8:23 PM

Tweet of the day goes to columnist Don Macpherson fr.Que.to Andrew Coyne in regards to Iggy being a 'Pearson/Trudeau/Martin/Chretien Liberal:

The debates. PMSH would be wise to follow GWB's stratery in his first debate with Al Gore. I will never forget that moment where Al Gore crossed the floor to make his point and GWB just ignored him. It said hit me you p*ssy.

Now, PMSH, if you read this blog...get your family out there more. We know you are a regular guy but sadly, a lot of Canadians get their news from the (dark) Star, the CBC and whoever that fool Bob Fife is working for.

Posted by: albertaclipper at April 9, 2011 9:58 PM

Yes, you have to laugh at the old Trudeau groupie, better known as Craig Oliver. On Friday on Power Play he was saying voters are not listening, they are not paying attention, they are not engaged and they won't be until after the debates. What else is a Liberal going to say when Harper has a 10 point lead on Ignatieff! Now if the Libs had the 10 point lead...well that would be different...then the voters would be astute, involved, understanding, informed of all policies and platforms and willing to pay higher taxes to create the just society, and not just for Canada, but for all of mankind.

Posted by: Bill Williams at April 9, 2011 9:59 PM

This is Craig's last shot at being named a Senator so he has to shill for the Liberals in order to be named to the house of the dead and near dead and all the slop at the trough that comes with an appointment.

Batb @8:04 pm: Canadians aren't stupid. They're aware that the Canadian media are pulling out all the stops to elect the Liberal$ as the next government -- and we don't like it.

You see it, and I see it, but you're being way too generous. I happen to think that maybe about half of Canadians actually are stupid!

I contend, that of this group, nearly half of them are so dis-engauged intellectually, that they wholly accept and totally rely on vacuous sentiment eminating from the media, or their own sphere of like-minded shallow thinkers. ( oxymoron, or what?) to steer their way.

The other half plus, are those caught up in the environmental/socialist/collective doctrine, blinded by idealogy, and so unable or unwilling to see the destructive ecomomic consequence of their position. (Stalin would be proud). But if it advances the cause...

Lord help us.

Posted by: Snagglepuss at April 9, 2011 11:31 PM

We used to call Craig 'ginger' because he used certain over the counter products to make his hair look well shall we say, more youthful. The problem was, it did not work too well.

I admire the man but he should retire. Him and Count Lloyd.

Posted by: wnmc at April 9, 2011 11:32 PM

I think the PM has the right idea. The media is going to go after him anyway and he knows it. They are putting no effort into Jack saying he is not up to it. Jack is doing as much campaigning as he ever did. The more the Igster talks the more he digs a deeper hole.
I have been abasing myself hanging out at the CBC disputing lies and telling truths. They are under the impression Ig will whip him in the debate. I get he is internationally recognized and a great author. I respond he writes fiction when he knows people will fact check and he doesn't have a real good grasp of what is real.
I think letting him hang himself is a good strategy. The media will savage the PM for anything or nothing he says. Lurk in the bushes then come out full bore. Ig is just providing ammo.

Snagglepuss and Ken (K): I know where you're coming from and, yeah, I've got a bunch of left-lib family members and friends (fewer by the day) who belong to the group of disengaged, almost-beyond-hope, leftie maroons; however look at the last two elections: Despite the MSM's best efforts to defeat the CPC, they won, granted, minority governments, but with the Bloc winning 50 seats, will any party be able to win a majority in Canada?

I really believe that the CPC can pull off a majority, albeit with a lot of blood, sweat, and tears, not to mention prayer, with absolutely no thanks to the lying lamestream media. However, their lies and shilling for the Liberal$ may galvanize enough voters to put the CPC over the top. That's my hope, that's my prayer – and miracles still happen. Our God is a mighty God – with whom nothing is impossible!

CTV has sunk very low in my estimation, with its shameless lack of objectivity and its unprofessional tactics to try to influence the vote. I'm going to be switching from cable TV to a satellite dish starting next week.

This election campaign has been lacklustre. The Liberals and NDP were very slow off the mark in getting their signs up in my riding, and I've seen no campaign signs attached to residences yet. PMSH harping away about the fact that the Dippers/Liberanos and the Blocheads still have a 'living' coalition arrangement is the ticket, IMO.

Like you Ken (Kulak) and you, Snagglepuss; I know a lot of fool lefties that really like to view themselves as progressives and 'enlightened' beyond the scope of the money grubbers (people that the parasites like to call 'rednecks' and who have money, sometimes more than the 'enlightened
ones'!) who want to cling to bibles, guns and freedom. The snobs do not 'tolerate' the thought of anyone but themselves having power or money - they feel that money is wasted on people who do not think as a progressive BUT the parasite progressive cannot live without the money generated by the entrepreneur who produces and thus fills the gument coffers. Many boomer progressives (mostly gument workers) are retiring in the next few years and they really want the pensions to be in high gear doling out big $$ for their warm bodies being 'present' for a few years. IF the Troika takes over with Ducippee in the drivers seat all of the rest of Canada will be shoveling money into the bottomless pit of Quebec. Ducippee will see to that! This will frighten the pant wetting progressive and will knock the first ever known bit of sense into the head vacuum that they carry around on their shoulders. They will vote CPC to save themselves and inadvertently maybe save Canada and the next generation from abject poverty.

This happened in Sask. during the election won by Brad Wall and the Sask Party. If the gument spends all it's money, pensions are meaningless. Just ask some of the old Commis in Russia who lost their souls in a quest for a big fat gument pension. They are out sweeping sidewalks and not for fun - there are no cheques in the mail.
