About That Apology...

Bumped for random non-partisan student update: "Awish Alam, UWO student from Harper rally fame, confirms she was an NDP volunteer in the last election."

Smelled like a rat right from the beginning.

But won't make it to the evening news.

Posted by: mj at April 7, 2011 4:49 PM

Awish was a wish come true for the lefty media cheerleaders. We all suspected she was a plant, now it's confirmed. No surprise.

Posted by: Ghost of Ed at April 7, 2011 4:50 PM

huh. that would make her what 16 years old when this email was written. NDP insider??

Posted by: Daryl at April 7, 2011 4:59 PM

Yip Daryl almost old enough to be a Liberal candidate in Port Moody!

Posted by: wnmc at April 7, 2011 5:03 PM

So there is only one Awish Aslam in the world? Weird.

Posted by: Daryl at April 7, 2011 5:07 PM

When the mainstream media appoints a Victim De Jour (several jours, actually),they had better be certain that person is who they say they are, and as politically unaffiliated as they claim to be.

They didn't do this. Just as they failed to note the Green Party's role role in the votemobs.

Every one of those party leaders know that if a heckler gets through security, that's the clip that will make it to national news. So, yes, it's relevant that this girl has a history with the NDP signficant enough to be included in an NDP mailing list.

Posted by: Kate at April 7, 2011 5:11 PM

Someone should also send that to some MSM reporters see if it gets any traction, Ones that may for sure are QMI & National Post
Akin always likes getting these types of story's
(I would, but on the fly)

Ever wonder why the Dippers want to lower the voting age?

Posted by: Louise at April 7, 2011 5:18 PM

The truth is irrelevant to MSM, I said from the beginning this story was contrived but the media is still accusing Harper of being a goon. I hope the RCMP file a complaint against those media outlets that are slurring their name.

Awash Islam...somethings just misspell themselves.

Posted by: wallyj at April 7, 2011 5:25 PM

knew it....and they are going to try to make this a racial profiling incident, as Izzy (The Green Plant LOL) did....

so predictable, only a matter of time before this would come out....I would also suggest that the MSM WANTS to be played by the Dippers/Greens....the means justify the ends of trying to get rid of Harper...

Posted by: Soccermom at April 7, 2011 5:26 PM

We know she's a plant everyone with half a brain knows that and that's all that matters. All the lefties can cry in their milk all they want about how it's undemocratic that people are not allowed into private functions all they want who cares. All that matters is our voters show up on election day. That is what should be focused on and that alone. Let the press talk about this and other stupid hair dos and nails on twitter and what ever.

Posted by: james at April 7, 2011 5:29 PM

Here's an example of the stuff they focus on :

@CBCTerry (Terry Milewski)

My bid is in for most succinct #elxn41 interview: Scene: Harper rally, Hamilton. Q: Why you here? Man in chicken suit: Cluck! Cluck!

How timely.

Posted by: james at April 7, 2011 5:33 PM

Unless she threatened the P.M., even jokingly, like the other doofus, there is no reason she should be barred from any public event. That said, at least she wasn't throttled like the guy who tried to talk to Chretien. Canadian P.M.s have too much power and are unanswerable to all except those they appoint and the public at the polls, regardless of party affiliation.

Posted by: Thomas_L..... at April 7, 2011 5:33 PM

This story just moved to the back pages of history.

Posted by: the bear at April 7, 2011 5:34 PM

Well, a quick look at the email address, awish_91@hotmail.com, leads me to believe that this is the correct Awish Aslam. Please note the “91″ in the address which when printed as “1991″ and subtracted from “2011″ equals 20. Hmmm, 20? That’s pretty close to 19 and if this innocent babe was born later in the year she could still be a mere 19 years old if “91″ was the year of Awish Aslam’s birth. Yeah, she may have been young in 2008, still, that is roughly the level of maturity one expects from people that supports NDP policies.

Posted by: The Rat at April 7, 2011 5:39 PM

Thomas, these are not public events. They are paid for by the CPC for the leader of the party and the invited guests. It's not a public event.

Posted by: james at April 7, 2011 5:42 PM

"So there is only one Awish Aslam in the world?"

The world? Unlikely. But how likely is it that southern Ontario is awash in Awishes? We're not Pakistan... yet.

Posted by: Ellie in T.O. at April 7, 2011 5:44 PM

After all is said, the PM is the Prime Minister.

As he is NOT just another 'candidate' his security is overseen by an agency other than his CPC party organisers.

In other words it is handled by professionals not answerable to the party or election event organisers.

Anybody with an ounce of smarts knows this..especially the MSM smurfs.

Who wins the numbskull prize for this debauchery in election reporting is said MSM teat suckers who need to learn that the public is not that stupid and doesn't make its decisions based on the infantile crap these folks try to pass off as meaningful news.

Posted by: old duffer at April 7, 2011 5:44 PM

http://www.westernstandard.ca/website/article.php?id=2333&start=0

No wonder SH was reluctant to go along with the story and apologize. He knew she was a plant. Only Libs, Dippers and the MSM rush to defend a so called victim before the facts are out.

Posted by: banya at April 7, 2011 5:46 PM

From the Winnipeg Free Press:

"Layton said Awish Aslam, 19, a political science student, is an NDP supporter who just wanted to check out what the other parties were saying."

Really. Do tell us more, Taliban Jack.

Posted by: Ellie in T.O. at April 7, 2011 5:49 PM

Someone doesn't know understand why bcc was invented. If you check it out you can see what happened:

1. Bourque ran some polls including:

"What should the GG do ? Prorogue Parliament. Hand government to the Coalition. Dissolve Parliament, call an election"

http://bourque.freepolls.com/cgi-bin/pollresults/121

2. Brad Field sent a note about that to about 35 email address. Most of which were to the multiple email addresses of individual NDP MPs. Awish Aslam was one of the addressees. So was Cowachin NDP MP Jean Crowder. The Crowder email forwarded this to a Cowachin NDP mailing list with the orginal addresses still in:

http://ml.islandnet.com/pipermail/ncannounce/2008-December/001033.html

3. Got found today because the Cowachin list server archive is open to the internet:

http://ml.islandnet.com/pipermail/ncannounce/

So it all started with a poll about the coaliton?

Does this mean John McCallum gets his old job back; going to Conservative functions to heckle the PM.

Posted by: nold at April 7, 2011 6:15 PM

I have four comments in moderation at Leo's blog underlining the same essential misconception that Thomas_L has.

The CPC election rally in Guelph was not a public event. It was a private event, which means the CPC could allow/disallow whomever they damn well wanted to. And they did not and do not need to provide any sort of justification to anybody.

Weird, really weird. There may only be one Izzy Hirgi in the world (or not),but Izzy is defending Awish in the lead story on the CBC website. Weird, just really f'en weird. It almost seems like there is some sort of 'hidden agenda' conspiracy thing out there that the media have fallen prone to.

Things that make you go hmmm. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2011/04/07/cv-election-harper-apology-1239.html

Louise, I actually feel the same way but I'm talking about giving the trolls ammunition. Mr. Harper could run a smarter campaign. Heck, I want him to win.

Posted by: andycanuck at April 7, 2011 7:26 PM

Why is it that Harper should apologise?

There should be a time when the conservatives should stop apologising because some "journalis" refers to the sentiment.

Posted by: Lev at April 7, 2011 7:50 PM

Sadly, Harper is running the only campaign he can. When for five years, everything you say or do - shaking hands with your son for instance, is heaped upon with scorn by the media and your opponents, the best strategy is to give them as little ammunition as possible and wait for a mistake.

Harper has a strong base and his poll numbers show that.

I heard a radio commentator today lament how this campaign is not focused on real issues and then spend his entire program talking about Carson, the student girl etc. etc.

When it comes to the real issues Harper is strong and hopefully he will bring this to the debates. Iggy reminds me of an Archdeacon invited to a parish church to preach and Jack of that high school guidance counsellor you had no respect for.

Have faith and make sure you vote.

From the official NDP website: "Jack Layton let Awish Aslam come to HIS London Rally"

From the Winnipeg Free Press: "Layton said Awish Aslam, 19, a political science student, is an NDP supporter"

Gee, Mr Layton let his own supporter attend his rally? How awfully big of him!

Posted by: Ellie in T.O. at April 7, 2011 8:00 PM

Looks like the press party's awishes are coming true. Now Harper gets to host hecklers and flash mobs:

http://blog.decisioncanada.ca/conservatives/steel-worker-union-rep-crashes-harper-rally/

“What about the jobs at U.S. Steel?” Wayne Rae shouted out while Harper was addressing a rally here Thursday night...A Conservative official rushed in Rae after he started shouting. “Don’t put your hands on me,” Rae said. He was eventually allowed to stay at the rally.

Posted by: mikey at April 7, 2011 8:23 PM

If anyone looks closely at the whole mess it's clear that an NDP staffer (Brad Field) inviting about 35 email addresses (almost all of which belonged to NDP MPs) to push a Borque poll about the coalition.

Someone should ask the obvious question. Was Brad Field altering the MP's by replying to an email from Awish Aslam about this coalition poll?

Posted by: mikey at April 7, 2011 8:49 PM

For all the dirty tricks, slimy tactics, and low-grade 'issues' the nattering class keeps throwing at the Conservatives, it is not having an impact, no traction to any of these manufactured issues of the left.

They will get more shrill and sneaky towards election day, as it appears to all that it ain't working.

Typical activist tactics, and the public sees right thru it.

Posted by: DanBC at April 7, 2011 11:05 PM

Either the CBC has a death wish, or it thinks it really can decide the election by pumping out its filthy propaganda. Its current WEB front page shows the depths to which it can sink. "Biased" would be a compliment: Joe Goebbels would be green with envy.

Turn off your TV. Cancel your newspaper. Hide in a dark closet, put your hands over your ears and say "lalala I can't hear you!!!" You will be better informed.

Bourque has a severe crush on Iggy. Won't click that link...

Posted by: Miguel at April 8, 2011 4:08 PM

It's a bad old world. Of course this was a setup.
If the two had gotten in, they would have caused a disruption; they would have been escorted out, or
carried out, with all sorts of nice photos and accusations of brutality. Let's not forget how several public talks,
notably that of Ann Coulter, have been shut down by infiltrators.

I was surprised at how light the security was at PMSH's St. John's rally.

In this day of political violence it is better to take precautions pre-emptively than to be sorry.

Posted by: John Lewis at April 8, 2011 6:03 PM

These people like Izzy ands Awish need far more scrutiny than the average Mo, good on Harpers people to vet these 3 little piggies. Wail on Craig Oliver, the hemororoids you have are courtesy of Iggula no doubt.

Posted by: bartinsky at April 8, 2011 6:34 PM

What was that word Layton's been using in one of the NDP ad's? Deceitful? Odd turn of events isn't it.

Posted by: the bear at April 8, 2011 6:55 PM

Volunteered and knew Brad Field. Closer to the full story. But when asked to send something out to a list of MP's not many people add in a volunteer teen.

So the $1 million dollar question is simply did she start the ball rolling on that poll pushing? Was Brad Field's office alerted to the only poll by the teen? Is that how she made it into an email addressed mostly to MPs and staff?

Posted by: mikey at April 8, 2011 6:57 PM

Aslam claims she's no longer an NDP member, yet Layton is on record saying she "is" an NDP supporter. They really need better coordination on their official storyline...

Posted by: Ellie in T.O. at April 8, 2011 7:27 PM

I suppose Jeese you're also so concerned about democracy in Canada that you've been demanding Jack Layton and Michael Ignatieff explain why they blocked Bill C-12 which would have provided BC, Alberta and Ontario with their fair share of seats? Oh right, you're only interested in a watered down version of democracy.

Posted by: anselm at April 8, 2011 7:42 PM

It seems odd that she would be included in an email with NDP MPs at only 16 or 17. Is there any confirmation, other than MSM reporters, that she is just 19 years old?

Posted by: Rick at April 8, 2011 8:39 PM

The media keeps going on about the story, saying that she was going to the meeting with a friend who's father was a Conservative. The implication is that she also had Conservative leanings and therefore, the officials at the meeting made a serious error and "proof" that the CPC is too tightly controlled.

Not so.

No one with Conservative ties would have gone to the media with the story, especially during an election. One might have been miffed with the local officials, but they would never hurt the party nationally for 15 minutes of fame.

This alone should have tipped off the so-called "journalists" to a scam.

It was a setup from the beginning and it was obvious.

Posted by: Frank Q. at April 8, 2011 8:47 PM

Oh, Never mind. Just re-read your 7:20 post! Sorry...As you were... Oh look. a shiny thing!...

Posted by: Snagglepuss at April 8, 2011 9:48 PM

Does anyone find the fact the people turned away were both visible minorities? The unstated conclusion was the PM is a racist and they should stick to the Liberals? CBC isn't letting the truth be told in the discussion threads and I don't think the NDP has a hope with immigrants. They are closer to what most left behind.
But if they want to play that game the ratings on Iggy at Kennedy SOG also said he disliked Ukranians, Mexicans and a few other ethnic groups.
The Iggy big white tent with the eyeholes isn't far from reality. Right Senor Iggy?

Posted by: Speedy at April 8, 2011 10:07 PM

I remember a time when heckling was an acceptable part of elections. The trouble we have now is how a heckling event is reported. Optics over substance wins everytime. I have been to a political event where heckling was present and the hecklers were deftly handled by the politician. But surprise, surprise, by the next day the media had focused on the heckler and completely left out the politician's witty response. I don't blame politicians who try to prevent it from starting.
