Is There Nothing That Obama Can't Do?

CBS News;

Attorney General Eric Holder today will announce that self-proclaimed Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammad will be tried in a military commission, CBS News has learned. A source says the commission will be held at the Guantanamo Bay prison.

Wait. Didn't they close that a year ago?

No, Guantánamo was actually closed two years ago. Don't you follow the CBC?

Posted by: ricardo at April 4, 2011 12:22 PM

Wait. Didn't they close that a year ago?

The MSM closed the book on writing stories about Gitmo, it's mostly the same thing.
Out of sight, out of mind.

Obozo . . . channeling his inner George Bush.

He does miss him after all.

It must be closed. How else could previous detainees end up in the goings on in Libya?

How else could previous detainees end up in the goings on in Libya?
~Speedy

Several hundred former Gitmo detainees were released back into the wild while "W" was POTUS.
Some of those released detainees had been identified captured or killed fighting against our forces later in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Obama .. . as a candidate:

" All of us know what those challenges are today - a war with no end, a dependence on oil that threatens our future, schools where too many children aren't learning, and families struggling paycheck to paycheck despite working as hard as they can. We know the challenges. We've heard them. We've talked about them for years.

What's stopped us from meeting these challenges is not the absence of sound policies and sensible plans. What's stopped us is the failure of leadership, the smallness of our politics - the ease with which we're distracted by the petty and trivial, our chronic avoidance of tough decisions, our preference for scoring cheap political points instead of rolling up our sleeves and building a working consensus to tackle big problems.

For the last six years we've been told that our mounting debts don't matter, we've been told that the anxiety Americans feel about rising health care costs and stagnant wages are an illusion, we've been told that climate change is a hoax, and that tough talk and an ill-conceived war can replace diplomacy, and strategy, and foresight."

Voting "Present" was such great preparation for his tenure as POTUS.

In other news... Markos Moulitsas' head has exploded...

Thanks Oz, I really should use a sarc sign. I think I read 14% went back to the life but that is only the ones they know about dead or alive.

Posted by: Speedy at April 4, 2011 2:05 PM

Did the US 'present' forget his prompter or did the prompter change it's mind? The hollow man is just a 'player'; Sarah Palin warned Americans but they ignored her and elected a snake oil salesman. Had they chosen McCain (the other snake oil guy) they would have had a Palin halter on him. Things would have been different, probably a lot less catastrophic, IMO. Citizens are responsible for electing the less damaging of the choices...Canadians should also consider their vote for the least offensive; if good people do not vote, they will wake up on a May morning with a commi separatist driving the Canadian boat. It will be too late to re launch. Our future will be funneled into the bottomless pit of Quebec welfare.

It's deja vue all over again. Wasn't he supposed to be tried by military commission in Gitmo before bozo got in?

Posted by: Texas Canuck at April 4, 2011 2:38 PM

Before the unknown senator was inaugurated as potus I told my friends and family, who could only sing his praises and declare how he would bring a new era of peace and love and sweet free gum drops, I told them you'll regret this: "this guy is a phony, a radical out to destroy America, just look at his education, his associates, he is the Manchurian candidate".

These days most of them now say "Obummer it's Obama" but most just don't pay attention.

So 1 day after announcing the start of his $1,000,000,000 reelection bid we have Holder (even more an asshole than Obummer) reversing himself on the 9/11 Terror trials.

Look for more 'reversals' more moves to the 'center' - gotta bring that evaporating base back into the fold before long. Before Billary gets into the ring.

And the same day he officially starts his re-election campaign!

What a strange coinky dink!

Posted by: AtlanticJim at April 4, 2011 3:33 PM

He's run out of flops to flip on.

Posted by: Louise at April 4, 2011 3:34 PM

Wait, wait!

Didn't ol' Sheiky get convicted by a military tribunal (with confession), only to have that tossed by the Holder justice department? So they could give him a civ trial in New York?...

Obama is the methadone president - a not-very good thing that is supposed to help ease people a very-very not good thing. Sadly, he is saddled with an "stop everything!!!" opposition that can't even maintain internal coherence. Frankly, he's a little to the right of Harper on pretty much everything, and yet he keeps getting called a radical. No logic, just blind emotion that can't even cohere into ideology.

My guess he'd have an easier time closing Gitmo were it not for the pants-shitting that starts every time someone says "Muslim" in North America. And I blame Dems as well as Repubs for that. (And Obama, for not telling the pants-shitters to STFU.)

Posted by: Nathan at April 4, 2011 4:47 PM

You must be checking different diapers than me, Nathan. I don't see much poopy-pants from the oh-so-skeery "Muslim" invocation. Just lots of folks pissed off that a bunch of barbaric, misogynistic savages are accorded the status of a "world culture"... While their own government colludes.

Posted by: mojo at April 4, 2011 5:09 PM

Perhaps now they realised how politically disastrous it would be to try Khalid Sheikh Mohammad in any other court. Trust a leftist to make a mistake like trying Khalid Sheikh Mohammad in any other court.

Gord Tulk @1:28 - "In other news... Markos Moulitsas' head has exploded..."

Yes, indeed, a horrible tragedy for all who knew and loved yaddayadda; but on the plus side, a surprisingly quick and painless clean-up.

Honestly, how on earth did these clowns ever think that there was another way? I suppose the fact that some tiny concession has been made to reality is s good sign.

In this episode of "As America Burns", Barry grows up.

Slightly.

"My guess he'd have an easier time closing Gitmo were it not for the pants-shitting that starts every time someone says "Muslim" in North America." - Nathan

Nathan is right, we Americans don't deserve such a sublime being as Obama for our leader. If it weren't for us, Obama could really shine.

holder, another fool that needs to learn what his job is, it's to serve the people, not dictate to the people

Posted by: GYM at April 4, 2011 8:18 PM

Holder's not a fool, he knows exactly what he's doing. It's just that what he's doing is determined by his racist, Marxist, anti-American agenda.

Most Dangerous Animals: Which Animal is Responsible for the Most Human Deaths?

1) Enviro-nuts/Mosquito
2) Snakes
3) Muslims (about 9000)

Although commies have an impressive list of kills, they don't have the consistency.

Obamba also "fulfilled his campaign promise" by pulling the troops out of Iraq! ....and left a 50,000 strong "security force" in their place.

What about, ha ha ha - I always chuckle think about this one – “I will never sign an executive order, it’s unconstitutional, and I am a constitutional scholar”.....LOL :)

The saddest thing about this whole affair is the white liberal population still standing on the beach scanning the horizon waiting for their lost loves ship to come in. Then you have all the bewildered black people pacing their apartments wondering why they’re still paying the rent, yet realizing the “change they can believe in” was probably a cryptic metaphor for something they missed out on.

how's that hopey changy thing.

Obozo. backpeddling like a clown on a unicycle.

cgh >

"The practical question is what can be done about it..."

Why not send over troops for a few billion dollars a year and occupy them?

oh, guess we tried that already.

Well on the other hand we could just turn our backs on them and let them duke it out. Let’s call it something unique like "neutral". Sort of like Switzerland of the North (catchy, no?).

Unlike Switzerland we could simply not tolerate any aggression in our streets by immigrant Muslims who feel that we owe their homeland money for some obscure reason.

Oil & Gas? Well they have lots of it, and we have quite a bit of our own, barring hugely increased future populations. What we do have plenty of and they do not is food. We could trade, possibly? Egypt currently imports 60% of its grain from Russia. It can only produce about a third of its current food requirement from the Nile Delta, I wonder why their food resources are so out of whack to their current population of +80 million anyway? Could it be Global welfare? Last year’s Russian drought and their ban on wheat exports is a major contribution to the current uprising in Egypt today.

We could just stay out of it.
