Now is the Time at SDA When We Juxtapose

February 22nd, 2011 ... Palin:

...Gaddafi is a brutal killer and Libya – not to mention the world – would be better off if he were out of power. Now is the time to speak out. Speak out for the long-suffering Libyan people. Speak out for the victims of Gaddafi’s terror. NATO and our allies should look at establishing a no-fly zone so Libyan air forces cannot continue slaughtering the Libyan people. We should not be afraid of freedom, especially when it comes to people suffering under a brutal enemy of America.

February 28th, 2011 ... Cameron:

British Prime Minister David Cameron has announced he is working on plans for a no-fly zone over Libya.

February 28th, 2011 ... Obama:

Obama is loyal. He doesn't like to bad mouth his role models and heroes.

He bows to tyrants and dictators as though they were royalty. He would be one of the worst tyrants in history if he ever manages to get hold of country of willing supplicants. Wait a minute .. He has done that ... He is already crapping on the constitution.

Don't let his recent anti constitutional declaration regarding allowing gay marriage. Two reasons for that ...

1. He needs the gay $$ support in 2012. The union cash may have dried up by then.

2. It will be easier for the Jihadis to find and murder gays when they take over from Obama since their marriage records will all be on file. No guess work required.

When will the concentration camps open is the question.

I know this sounds tongue in cheek ... well it's not!

I'm sure some wag will dismiss Mrs. Palin's words as un-nuanced folly. What, then, are Obama's words (or lack of them)?

One phone call from Barry would get this done my friends. One frickin' phone call. Unlike the Brits who have to move their aircraft carrier battle group from somewhere else, the Americans have boats in the Med right now that can shoot down any aircraft flying over Libya. Don't even need aircraft to do it, just missiles and Predator drones.

Its worse than crickets from Obama. He came out and said "We're doing all we can...". Yep, all he can short of picking up a telephone.

And so it goes on,,,from Facebook to the White House.
Heh

U.S. military repositions forces near North Africa as Obama administration confers with European and NATO allies about creating a no-fly zone that would prevent Qaddafi from launching air attacks on protesters and a growing resistance army.

Unless Canadians want our gov't to contribute CF-18s to enforce a no-fly zone, if one is set up, Canadians should not be urging others to set up such a zone. And it's a good question whether our gov't would be willing to contribute. See:

Palin: "That's what I said and moved your hands around, like this"

Ogabe: "No, I did this"..."Makes all the difference"

Obama doesn't like to move before he gets word from Gadaffys buddies: Louis Farakan & Rev. Wright, then Dorn, Trumka ...

it takes time to develop just the right mix of fake foreign policy in the new America.

POTUS has finally figured something out. Shut up until the media finds out the right thing.
The US is condemned when they get involved and condemned when they don't. The President is always right and always wrong.
No fly zones risk lives, cost money and require a commitment that may lead to somewhere you don't want to go. I can understand not wanting to be first on the block. The US used to have friends to help...now not so sure.
I wonder how the left deals with agreeing with Sarah?

Mark, you mean... we might have to send -both- of them?

For this to be a success as far as Obama is concerned, GS in NYC has to make a profit.

I imagine that's already happened but perhaps not often enough to declare victory.

The Phantom: The Canadian Air Force actually has 79 Hornets (some are trainers) and two operational squadrons. Deploying say eight or twelve should be quite feasible.

Granted, Khadaffi is a turd, and an exquisitely smelly one at that. But if he goes down, what will float to the top, save another turd?

If Canada were to participate in a military enforcement of a Libya no-fly zone, there are several possible land basing options with NATO allies. These are Greece (Crete), Italy (Sicily, s. Italy), France (Corsica), and Spain (Mallorca). (This is presuming tanker support also. See Mediterranean map, note distances.)

I say possible, as Italy has already indicated it'd have to be pursuant to a UN Sec. Council resolution. The other NATO allies listed above are more or less equally gutless.

Given the attitudes and probable responses of our "friends" Russia and China, I don't see any Sec. Council resolution getting passed. Another interesting speculative possibility is land-basing in next-door Egypt. Historically, there's no love lost between Egypt and Libya but whether or not the Islamist faction could prevent this is another question.

As so often in history, this brings us back to sea power.

In any case, for anything to happen to protect and support the revolutionaries in Libya, it would require leadership from a President of the United States with moral and intellectual clarity and courage. That rules out The Empty Suit currently in residence in 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

It is NOT the duty of the American or British government to protect the rights of Libyans. A No Fly Zone is a terrible idea it was an absolute tar baby in Iraq.

Don't forget that "unsinkable" WW2 aircraft carrier, also known as 'Malta'

I guess if we have these swell CF 18's we really don't need the proposed F35's - I mean when would we use them, as I understand it, a handfull of drones should do if you listen to the left and save the money for swell things like a national daycare program

@Malkewa: better yet, we could just not spend the money at all.
