Likening Hitler's rise in the thirties to the Islamic world in general (or to the repulsive zealots in the story cited above) is not, in my opinion at least, very accurate. Hitler led a state that was systematically organizing German society for conquest. With the probable exception of Iran, nothing like that exists in the Islamic world. Yes, lots and lots of Muslims have some pretty barbaric notions of justice, and lots of them can be mobilized on any given day to shout "Death to America". But they are, by and large, no threat to us.

Iran is a different matter, and as someone who reveres Judaism and its contribution to western culture, I am deeply concerned about Iran's obvious nuclear ambitions and its talk of eliminating "the Zionist entity". Abe, one of the things in fighting a war is that you have to know who the enemy is and what his tactics are. You also need to know yourself, so as to have a reason for fighting, because when the bullets start to fly, you have to believe in what you are doing is right, otherwise you will drop your weapons and run.

Islam is a religion. It has spiritual roots, but we only get to see what is above ground. If you don't go after the roots, then the tree just keeps coming back. The imams and spiritual leaders who are really in touch with the spirit behind Islam are controlled or in control of the "jin" (where we get genie) who are the spirits formed with fire but without smoke. It is written of in their texts, but not known of by most Muslims, where we get the moderates who don't use them and just follow the laws of Islam. The ones who know about the spirits use them (or are used by them) to control the physical realm which you and I walk in. You can shoot all the bullets and detonate all the bombs you like, but you cannot defeat the spirit of Islam with these types of weapons. (Note: This from a book written by the grandson of a Muslim imam who was well on his way to becoming an imam himself before his conversion to Christianity- he had the Quaran memorized by 12 and was being groomed for this, then radicalized during the war in Iran in the early '70's) You can only fight the spirits behind Islam with spiritual weapons! I believe it is Edmund Burke who is credited with coming up with the maxim of all it takes for evil to succeed is for good men to do nothing. When the Second Temple in Jerusalem was destroyed the Jewish religion was transformed into a home-based family centred religion. Perhaps, instead of wholesale massacre of people what needs to be done is to destroy the black rock that the muslims worship and see what happens. Give them plenty of warning to evacuate the site and then destroy their primary holy place with a minimum of casualties and make it totally radioactive so that it cannot be used for several hundred years. Then maybe, just maybe, they may stop this silly business of praying doggie style in the direction of Mecca. I've flown with a number of middle eastern airlines and found it amusing that even on their aircraft they have devices that constantly point out the direction of Mecca in real time. If Mecca is just a field of black glowing glass maybe they will rethink things and stop wasting countless dollars on the Hadj and drop this obsession with their black rock.
