Gulf Of Mexico: Not jobless enough!

Is there nothing that Obama can't do? Rigzone (from October);

All four [studies] suggest that the economic impact of the moratorium is far greater than the Obama Administration's assessment released on September 16, 2010 Estimating the Economic Effects of the Deepwater Drilling Moratorium on the Gulf Coast Economy that pegs temporary job losses impacting 8,000 to 12,000 individuals. The title of the Administration's report indentifies a glaring short-coming in that it focuses only on the "deepwater" impact. According to the SMU report, The Economic and Fiscal Consequences of the Drop in Shallow-Water Drilling Permits: Impacts on the Gulf Coast and the Nation, approximately 70% of the shallow-water drilling fleet will be idled by November without a significant uptick in permit approvals.

The BOEMRE's numbers tracking permits of new wells approved tell the story. Since the Macondo blowout and subsequent ban on deepwater drilling, shallow-water activities have also been severely impacted. Prior to the oil spill, between 10-15 new well permits were issued each month. Now the average is approximately one per month. SMU's analysis suggests that 40,000 jobs are directly related to shallow-water activities. Moreover, the wages paid by the offshore industry for one worker are 50% higher than the average combined household income in the United States. Thus, each one of these jobs lost is the equivalent of more than 2 average jobs in the United States. It is as simple as this - the current administration and legislature are being negligent to the US economy by allowing the BOEMRE to hinder the shallow-water drilling industry's normal progress. Regardless of whose estimates are chosen, the bottom line is that these jobs are evaporating while the BOEMRE is dragging its feet in issuing permits.

And best of all if we don't drill the Cubans and the Chinese buddies will - and they couldn't care less about leaks.

The impact will be far more lasting. Once the drill rigs are moved it will be very hard to get them back.

More economic devastation courtesy of Barrynomics.

The reason, as I've heard, is that Obama's mentor, George Soros, has offshore drilling interests off Brazil - and didn't want US competition.

I think ET has it right. Soros and Obama ... Dr. Evil and Mini Me ... won't be happy until America is dead, dead, dead.

Perhaps activity in the Alberta "patch" will increase. I have done one small job in Alberta since Imbecilic Ed's Royalty Review! The market place finds reasons aplenty for slow downs without any help from inept politicians.

I noticed that the initials BP and the name British Petroleum are missing from the Rigzone article, it's now the Macondo oil spill. BP was negligent big time and this time their mistake played right into the hands of the most anti-capitalist, pro-environment (or am I repeating myself) government the US has ever had. The perfect storm. Now BP has skedaddled off to piss in somebody else's back yard and Obama is still doing his best to destroy the US by all means necessary. Meanwhile the big losers are the gulf residents and off-shore oil and fisheries workers and anyone else who's income is tentatively linked to those industries. In a better world BP would be sued into penury for their disgraceful behavior and Obama would be impeached for treason. IMHO

Obama is winning the only war that he is interested in, trained in, and passionate about, the War on Prosperity.

Arty - BP was a big contributor to Barrak O's presidential campaign.

Here's the unvarnished truth that no Democrat will admit to:

U6 is the broadest measure of unemployment - it includes the traditional unemployed, those who are working part time but want full time work, and those who would like to work, but have just given up looking. At the time of Bambam's election (Nov. 2008), U6 was at 12%, a level last seen in 1994. At the time of his inauguration, it was 14%. Now, it's fair to blame those numbers, if they can be blamed on anyone, on GWB.

However, for November 2010, after nearly two full years of a Democratic president, a Democratic House, and a Democratic Senate, and over a trillion dollars of "stimulus" spending, U6 sits at.. 14%? 12%? 10%?

No, my friends. U6 is now a stunning 17%, which means almost 1 in 5 potential American workers either can't find a job, can't find a full-time job, or have lost hope so badly, they won't even look for a job.

As my buddy Occam might agree, you don't need to look at the Tea Party or Sarah to explain November's electoral rout. That one number explains it perfectly. Never mind the overseas embarrassments - the "Reset" button, the bows, the self-centered gifts - or the scandals or the promises made but not kept. It's this colossal, stupendous, massive failure on the economic front, when the Dems have held every branch of government (one might argue about the judiciary, but point to one instance where the Supremes have thwarted Bambam.. I'll wait), that's responsible.

Man, I wish I was a Republican or Tea Party ad man. "17" would go down in history as a classic.

" In a better world BP would be sued into penury.. "

I disagree; BP, should ideally not be sued into penury, but for econimic harm caused by negligence. Suing them into penury implies an unlimited liabilty will be faced by any exploration firm, which will end oil exploration in the Gulf of Mexico.

A real leader would have pointed this out; Obama, the street agitator found it convenient to try to turn the leak to his political advantage. Some leader.

Speaking at the White House after the release of the latest jobs data, Obama said he'll discuss more job-creation ideas next week and again urged Senate Republicans to stop delaying a small-business bill.

"We need to take further steps to create jobs and keep the economy growing," Obama said, such as extending middle-class tax cuts and investing in areas of the economy with the biggest job-growth potential.

And from the linked article
"At some point, we're all tied to the oilfield. Even the doctors offices we work with, they've seen a downturn," Bergeron said.

The United States needs to become an energy exporting economy, drill, mine, refine, nucleate. Bury the greenies.

"At the time of his inauguration, it was 14%. Now, it's fair to blame those numbers, if they can be blamed on anyone, on GWB."

I partially disagree. While there was much about GWB's policies inconsistent with his claim to be a conservative, I think the lion's share of blame for the economic downturn goes to the congressional Democrats and Clinton for setting the stage for the subprime housing bubble.

It's amazing that Barney Frank isn't heckled and jeered every day.

KevinS: "It's amazing that Barney Frank isn't heckled and jeered every day."

He is. We just don't hear about it, the same as we never hear about Mr. Frank's part in the proceedings.

The thing most Americans still have not understood about the Democrats, is that they are not trying to -govern- the USA. They are trying to -destroy- it. Their aim is nothing other than pure sabotage, and things like these drilling permits are the evidence for it.

More evidence will be forthcoming when the EPA releases their new round of regulations. Which are aimed at bankrupting the coal and electricity generation industies. Barry wasn't kidding when he said he was going to put Big Coal out of business.

Sabotage.

Which is going to be fun to watch, when the new Congress zeros out the EPA's budget.

ROTFL

IF the US had resources they could develop economically they wouldn't be buying from foreign sources. Even if they repealed all environmental regs they still couldn't develop their own oil unless gasoline was $5 a gallon. Oil and mining companies are international, they go where the most profitable deposits are found. "Drill baby drill" is political rhetoric not reality.

Look, there are THREE federal court rulings that the Obamatorium is illegal. Yet NOT ONE "Law Enforcment" officer has bothered to arrest ANY of those responsible. Until the filthy maggot pigs rot in hell where they belong, expect this to continue. Damn them to hell for what they've done to the US!
