If anthropogenic global warming and sustainability are among the central pillars of environmentalism, one would think there would be unanimous opposition to open borders in the environmental community, but the situation is more complex.Roy Beck, executive director of NumbersUSA, explained that as a key part of the liberal community, many environmentalists –who understand that immigration harms the environment — are afraid to take a stand against it because it is not politically correct to do so and it will upset the liberal political establishment. [...]
Many environmentalist groups have their hands tied to do or say anything against prevailing immigration talking points due to their alliances with groups supporting immigration reform and a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants in the United States. “None of the national environmental groups want to be the first ones to stick their heads out in this cause,” Beck said. “There is an entire network set up to stifle conversation by calling groups that speak out ‘racist,’ or ‘xenophobic,’ etc. Nobody wants to step out on their own…It shows just how much ideology, political correctness, and fear controls these people.”
Or - if you believe that reducing our carbon footprint is a good thing, but that reducing third world immigration is a bad thing - you might be a liberal!

James Lee understood this quite clearly.
The sick thing was when the Lefties, who understand this too, tried to label James Lee "Rightwing" or a nut because he was anti-immigration.
The Left has many conflicting agendas, being anti-automobile and wanting to support the UAW is an example.
These are the Children of Chaos, they eat their own.
What? cognitive dissonance among liberal philosophy?
Reason and logic are just the burning cross and stars and bars of white oppression!
Posted by: Doug at September 14, 2010 9:52 AMConservatives must be curtailed. That is the other side of this pile of crazy. Pollution is ok from the left. It always was. This eco garbage is and has always been a political lever against the right. Why pick on Alberta and not Chavez?
Posted by: Alex at September 14, 2010 10:03 AMJust more proof that liberals don't believe in -any- of their causes. You dig into it just a little, and it always looks the same: lip service to a cause as long as it makes a good bat for beating up their political enemies. Its all strategic maneuvering.
The one and only thing they do believe is that most people are stupid and must be controlled by the few smart people. Smart people are by definition liberals, because to be anything else is just... stupid!
May their butt hairs go on fire.

Exactly !
I work at a small college, around 12,000 students. They laid off 80 grounds keepers, custodians, very few faculty and froze all staff positions due to the economy. They could have gotten rid of 7 of the 9 Vice Presidents (average salary around $350,000+), placed a 5% paycut on all faculty and administration jobs over $100,000 and saved those lower tier jobs.
So, now we are building a $2.5 Million Dollar State-of-the-Art Swimming Pool, a $5 Million Dollar Administrative Building, and a $15 Million Dollar Research and Development Building (all from other funds they say).
So, who is building the buildings ? Mexicans. Good Grief ! Academia World is putts in the head, instead of trying to save those lower tier jobs who are mostly worked by blacks they send them packing to collect un-employment and then farm their jobs out to Illegals. Go Fiqure.
,
Phantom - this isn't some sort of liberal plot, most liberals are just stupid. You can tell that they're stupid because they use the word "liberal" to mean "communist", and really think that is what it means.
We should stop justifying their 180 degree shift in meaning of the word liberal and not use it just because they do. It only confuses matters and lets them control the debate by defining the terms. Call them out as communists, socialists or statists, but don't call them liberal.
Posted by: minuteman at September 14, 2010 11:16 AMOz, the Left appears to have conflicting agendas, but in reality they subscribe to an over-arching agenda, which is totalitarianism. They support any cause that implies an increase in government control and a decrease in individual freedom.
That's how the environmentalists can preach carbon credits but oppose immigration laws.
Posted by: Mark Peters at September 14, 2010 11:37 AMThey can't admit out loud what they all know. They can see the contradiction, and even understand that they are wrong, but the Left has no enemies to their left, and..... *they know they need the votes*.
All we can really do is keep pointing it out hoping to convert a few to "formerly useful idiots."
Posted by: tim in vermont at September 14, 2010 11:55 AM"Call them out as communists, socialists or statists, but don't call them liberal."
They are actually fascists, hence their appeal to Soros and Buffet, but since that term is disallowed we will have to use Mussolini's term of "corporatist."
Posted by: tim in vermont at September 14, 2010 11:57 AMMark Peters, I agree mostly.
The footsoldiers of the Left are bots.
The Leftists footsoldiers don't necessarily subscribe to totalitarianism, they just subscribe to the feelgood notions that their leaders feed them.
They FEEEL but they don't reason.
Kinda like some of the people here at SDA who were against burning the Koran because it didn't "feel" right.
Anyone who puts feelings before logic is eventually going to be a tool of the Left on some important issue or another.
Schmucks.
Posted by: Oz at September 14, 2010 1:53 PMIt just shows how disingenuous the Green-tards are. They're rent seekers and nothing more. Why? Instead of going for the whole Enchilada, they pittle pattle with insignificant improvements to the west's Carbon footprint at the expense of real "progress".
The bottom line is, the environment is at least secondary, and likely of no consequence for the Green-tards; hence the well paying ineffective alliance with the Progressive(ineffective as far as tangible results).
Personally, were I American, I would prefer hard working Mexican families find the American dream, so long as for every citizenship given to a Mexican one Progressive mouth-breather has their citizenship revoked and is sent to Mexico. In fact, I'd trade two or three hard working Mexicans for each Progressive.
Now that's progress!
To be fair, liberals have all manner of cards they have to play- the race card, the gay card, the "green" card, the Hate Bush card, the illegal immigrant card. It's not always easy to figure out which one to play.

OZ you bloody nailed it!!!!
THIS is exactly what our public education system's focus is; and why I constantly am harping on the liberal public education system. Compounding the issue, is today most teachers where educated in this self-esteem orientated education system and don't know any thing else. It’s the blind leading the blind and it's literally killing us IMO.
*is today most teachers were educated*
typo sorry:(
minuteman, "liberal" is the term that liberals have co-opted to label themselves. "Progressive" is the term that Communists have co-opted.
Liberals in the classic sense are now "conservatives".
This is a battle which they have won and we have lost. It was lost a loooong time ago, and kvetching about it now doesn't get us anywhere.
On the bright side, "liberal" and "progressive" are both terms of CONTEMPT these days. Calling somebody a "friggin' liberal" is an almost guaranteed fight starter, particularly in bars where liberals hang out. Liberals HATE being called liberals.
That's why I love to do it. Liberals: SmartCar driving, latte sipping, lying cheating thieving metrosexual sons of b1tches who live solely by stealing the work of others, who maintain their increasingly tenuous grasp on power strictly by deceit, and who will shortly be -out- of power all across the Western world. HA!
You're much kinder than I Phantom.
