CBC, July 13th, 2010 - Michael Ignatieff says the Liberals must "reconnect to Canadians" over the summer [...] the Liberal leader also dismissed polls that suggest many Canadians perceive the author and former academic as arrogant.
Toronto Sun, Sept 12th, 2010 - Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff's former chief of staff, Ian Davey, hit Sun Media readers below the belt Sunday, saying they're all illiterate.
Posted by Kate at September 13, 2010 10:29 AMThis comment by Ian Davey confirms the Liberal view that if you do not support Liberal values, you are a bad Canadian.

Exactly Sasq, it's not just the Liberal party; it's Progressives in general.

You have to love the way these myopic Liberal elitists keep suiciding themselves in the rural and small town Canada. They just can;t hide their hatred of real people.
Genetic liberal arrogance has always held a deep contempt for middle Canada (or anyone outside their smug little network).
Elitism is tyranny just waiting to happen.

Interesting that Davey was sparring with Tim Powers at the time.
the viral mouth blurp is at the 406 mark of the clip, And actually the whole clip is pretty good.
As a beer and popcorn, knuckle-dragger, I like the Sun because it has pictures.
I’ll bet Ian Davey gets Gentlemen’s Quarterly for the same reason.
Being a Liberal, I'll bet dollars to donuts, that Davey bought Playboy when he was a young adult "for the articles"!!!
How else could he have such a great edumakashun!

An aside -- I remain unconvinced that Ignatieff actually entered a Tim Hortons during his "tour".
Posted by: BJG at September 13, 2010 12:31 PMIan Davey's real problem is that WE CAN READ
It would be better for him and his elitist ilk if we were all truly illiterate peasants. Then he and his would have more control.
As it is, we are presenting him with more than he and his can handle or he wouldn't be lamenting about us in the first place.
Posted by: Abe Froman at September 13, 2010 12:48 PMDavey Boy was really unfair to his former boss Iggy who went around the country on a bus all summer trying to convince us he had the common touch, I mean he likes the smell of barns, how common is that?
Posted by: Liz J at September 13, 2010 12:54 PMIgnatieff has shown himself to be a total failure, completely disconnected from the average Canadian. His cronies, such as Mr. Davey, hurl insults at the "beer and popcorn" crowd and look upon non-Liberals as nothing more than uneducated, red-necked boors. In the meantime, PMSH continues to provide stellar leadership and Canada remains economically stable in very troubling times.
Yet the Liberals remain neck and neck with the Conservatives ... according to the pollsters anyway. What am I missing here? Do that many people watch CBC and absorb the Liberal propaganda?
In a perfect world, the Conservatives should have a 2-1 lead on the Liberals with a majority government in the bag after the next election.

Posted by: grok at September 13, 2010 1:30 PMWell you see, folks, the reason you're all illiterate is because when our anointed betters (Leftists) were learning how to read, you all were dragging your knuckles around, striving every day to oppress & harm more and more people.
Fast forward to today, this is why all of your views are now unequivocally wrong and not worth listening to.
Posted by: Robert W. (Vancouver) at September 13, 2010 1:35 PMThe basic reason why we don't have a conservative majority is because Canadian culture in the main is far too collectivist. Too many people in this nation believe that they are entitled to something for nothing and get quite upset when anyone suggests the opposite. Just look at the reaction to the proposal to build a hockey stadium in Quebec city with tax dollars. Most Canadian taxpayers appear to have treated this news with a shrug.
The crucial problem is not how Canadians vote; it is how they perceive reality and their thinking processes regarding it. If this process is a scrambled mess of conflicting premises, as it is for all too many people, this is bound to be reflected in governments full of politicians who share these same conflicting premises and scrambled thought patterns.
Posted by: Dennis at September 13, 2010 1:41 PMWatching that vid, I had only one persistent thought throughout the whole thing: Mr. Davey = Mr. Bobble-Head.
Posted by: Louise at September 13, 2010 1:42 PMIsn't social progression in schools intended to do just that? Don't think social progression is something demanded by the right. We use tutors when the teachers can't.
Posted by: Speedy at September 13, 2010 1:59 PMbiffjr “What am I missing here?”
That the majority in the country is progressive.
Actually it’s amazing that conservatives are doing as well as we are after half a century of the MSM and academia being hijacking by progressives and considering we still don’t have a Fox with images to counter surge their polar bears choking in industrial smog.
We need to bring our military home to handle the Greek behaviour when we eventually get to the point of dismantling the entitlements to the CUPE “enemy within” that the private sector can no longer carry on their backs. Ian Davey and the whole Librano$ machine assume that anyone who thinks like this is illiterate and must not be encouraged by having our own media outlet.
Posted by: nomdeblog at September 13, 2010 2:07 PMScratch a Liberal, find an elitist.

I understand a new word has been coined for folks like Mr.Davey. If you are both stupid AND an asshole that makes you an "ignoranus".

Posted by: Justthinkin at September 13, 2010 2:26 PMAre these insults effective? Canadian newspapers and magazines have been using variations of this theme since at least the Reform era. What happened? The evil knuckle-dragging Reformers ended up being the party in power, they generate more donations and are moving further into LPC turf. So, please let the progressives scream "Illiterate! Knuckle-dragger! Beer and Popcorn!" and whatever other nuanced insults they can think of. The US experience shows that it certainly hasn't stopped the rise of Fox News. Hicks have this annoying and persistent habit of ignoring their social betters.

Posted by: Agent Smith at September 13, 2010 3:17 PMWell said Dennis @ 1:41!! A big block of Canadians feel 'entitled' to a luxury life and they do not want to lift a finger to get that life. The sterling example, along with Quebec, is the Yukon Territory. The territory is rich in minerals, has 30,000 residents and is building a BIG cultural centre on the riverfrount and numerous old people's housing units (luxury units); all this is free from all of you tax payers down south; as everyone either works for the gument or survives from spin offs from the gument. Yukon residents over 65 don't pay for prescriptions, dentists, eyeglasses or housing (if they don't have savings), if they do pay for housing they get huge grants to help pay taxes and heat bills. The Yukon produces nothing but greenies and land treaties. We have a huge HIV/AIDS infected population because the territory pays for their meds on your dime. The Yukon residents feel very smug about living 'north of 60'! Did I mention that the Francaphonies have a huge budget and control much of the agenda.

The Mom Song with lyrics
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXgoJ0f5EsQ&feature=related
Get up now
Get up now
Get up out of bed
Wash your face
Brush your teeth
Comb your sleepy head
Here's your clothes
And your shoes
Hear the words I said
Get up now
Get up and make your bed
Are you hot?
Are you cold?
Are you wearing that?
Where's your books and your lunch and your homework at?
Grab your coat and your gloves and your scarf and hat
Don't forget you gotta feed the cat
Eat your breakfast
The experts tell us it's the most important meal of all
Take your vitamins so you will grow up one day to be big and tall
Please remember the orthodon'tist will be seeing you at three today?
Don't forget your piano lesson is this afternoon
So you must play
Don't shovel
Chew slowly
But hurry
The bus is here
Be careful
Come back here
Did you wash behind your ears?
Play outside
Don't play rough
Would you just play fair?
Be polite
Make a friend
Don't forget to share
Work it out
Wait your turn
Never take a dare
Get along
Don't make me come down there
Clean your room
Fold your clothes
Put your stuff away
Make your bed
Do it now
Do we have all day?
Were you born in a barn?
Would you like some hay
Can you even hear a word I say?
Answer the phone
Get Off the phone
Don't sit so close
Turn it down
No texting at the table
No more computer time tonight
Your iPod's my iPod if you don't listen up
Where you going and with whom and what time do you think you're coming home?
Saying thank you, please, excuse me
Makes you welcome everywhere you roam
You'll appreciate my wisdom
Someday when you're older and you're grown
Can't wait 'til you have a couple little children of your own
You'll thank me for the counsel I gave you so willingly
But right now
I thank you NOT to roll your eyes at me
Close your mouth when you chew
Would appreciate
Take a bite
Maybe two
Of the stuff you hate
Use your fork
Do not you burp
Or I'll set you straight
Eat the food I put upon your plate
Get an A, Get the door
Don't get smart with me
Get a Grip
Get in here I'll count to 3
Get a job
Get a life
Get a PhD
Get a dose of...
I don't care who started it
You're grounded until your 36
Get your story straight
And tell the truth for once for heaven's sake
And if all your friends jumped off a cliff
Would you jump too?
If I've said it once, I've said at least a thousand times before that
You're too old to act this way
It must be your father's DNA
Look at me when I am talking
Stand up straight when you walk
A place for everything
And everything must be in place
Stop crying or I'll give you something real to cry about
Oh!
Brush your teeth
Wash your face
Get your PJs on
Get in bed
Get a hug
Say a prayer with Mom
Don't forget
I love you
**KISS**
And tomorrow we will do this all again because a mom's work never ends
You don't need the reason why
Because
Because
Because
Because
I said so
I said so
I said so
I said so
I'm the Mom
The mom
The mom
The mom
The mom
Ta-da
Cheers

Some of them must still have common touch....okay it would be a difficult search to find one but I'm sure they must exist.
The point is
The elites are the ones in charge of the LPC, and right now they don't feel too good, matter of fact they must be down right po'd to go around insulting everyone that doesn't think like them, (sort of like how militant islamic terrorists do, but without the killing or threats of harm) rather than offer up policy of what they would do differently.
