Reader Tips

Who Do You Think You Are? is an ongoing BBC documentary television series that shows celebrities, most of them British, undertaking to trace their family trees using public archives, DNA testing, and information from tracked-down distant relatives. Sometimes the results are intriguing - one TV personality learned that he was a descendant of William the Conqueror - and sometimes the family tree is full of run-of-the-mill folk who left behind no real information about their lives save for their occupation. Tonight's amusement en route to the Tips features a spoof of the show in which writer/comedian Alexander Armstrong (who in real life is the aforementioned descendant of William the Conqueror) of the comedy team Armstrong and Miller searches, with an understated combination of pride, eagerness, and trepidation, for biographical details about his ancestors.

Come one, come all. Bring your wars with you:

"A local Surrey (England) newspaper has reported that extremists are disseminating leaflets in the local area, urging Muslims to kill the Ahmadiyya.

"From the Surrey Comet:

A police investigation was launched last month, after police saw leaflets being handed out calling on Muslims to murder Qadiyanis, a derogatory term for Ahmadiyya Muslims…
(...)
A teenage Ahmadiyya girl, who did not want to be named, said she was “shaken and scared” after being handed a leaflet written in Urdu saying: “kill a Qadiyani and doors to heaven will be open to you.”

"Surrey is home to a large Ahmadiyya community, and is also the location of the Baitul Futuh Mosque, the largest Ahmadiyya mosque in the country. It is no coincidence that extremists have targeted this area: they are attempting to sow distrust and sectarian hatred between the Ahmadiyya and other Muslim groups in the hope of creating a similar situation to that of Pakistan, where this small community is regularly persecuted..."

The whole thing here.

this article by James Delingpole is interesting. I don't agree with him directly connecting James Lee with Al Gore, Prince Charles & co. but his reminder to all of us that schoolchildren are being indoctrinated with this stuff should be a warning to all.

P.S. The front & back of the protest signs are my little contribution!

Christopher Hitchens:

"If I were to announce that I had suddenly converted to Catholicism, I know that Larry Taunton and Douglas Wilson would feel I had fallen into grievous error. On the other hand, if I were to join either of their Protestant evangelical groups, the followers of Rome would not think my soul was much safer than it is now, while a late-in-life decision to adhere to Judaism or Islam would inevitably lose me many prayers from both factions. I sympathize afresh with the mighty Voltaire, who, when badgered on his deathbed and urged to renounce the devil, murmured that this was no time to be making enemies."

Hey guys(and girls of course), if you've got nothing to do and are feeling overly optimistic about life and all that I've got a couple of mildly disturbing articles! :D

This one is just a nice moderate freedom of religion gathering in France:
http://bigpeace.com/stzu/2010/09/02/cbn-islamization-of-paris-a-warning-to-the-west/

In case you're still looking for the Islamic moderate there's a guide on where to find them (they don't exist):
http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/245415/why-islamic-moderates-are-so-scarce-joshua-gilder

On a lighter note I've discovered that you can watch all of Demolition man on YouTube so that's pretty cool.

It's not exactly news (from a 2002 article), but I came across this listing of the top ten most popular guns used in crime. Interesting that only one out of these ten bad boys is covered by Canada's ridiculous long gun registry.

While going through Mick Hartley's archives this morning I stumbled across this Rolling Stone article by a guy named Matt Taibbi about the large-scale menace known as.....the Tea Party movement:

"This summer's hate-fest is different than anything we’ve seen before. What we’re watching is a calculated campaign to demonize blacks, Mexicans, and gays and convince a plurality of economically-depressed white voters that they are under imminent legal and perhaps even physical attack by a conspiracy of leftist nonwhites. They’re telling these people that their government is illegitimate and criminal and unironically urging secession and revolution."

Here's his take on the easily-misled idiots who have had their worldview altered by watching Fox news, and on the concomitant threat of widespread racial violence:

"The fact that Fox and co. are doing what they do for...dreary commercial reasons makes it even worse, of course; at least Hitler really hated Jewish people. But that also means there's a bright side. One of the few positives in this Tea Party phenomenon is that it's shown how quickly masses of Americans can be convinced to completely change their minds about shit. The same Americans who six or seven years ago were looking skyward in search of poison-distributing Saddam-drones and buying duct tape and bottled water to protect themselves against imminent Muslim attack are now probably not spending five minutes a week worrying about Muslim terrorists -- and instead arming themselves against the coming black-Mexican-leftist-communist state. To me that indicates that if Fox and Glenn Beck can be induced to jerk off to some perhaps similarly profitable but less toxic hate-fantasy (midgets from New Zealand are taking our jobs!), all of this – well, it maybe won’t go away, but it won’t have us steaming toward widespread racial violence like we are now."

"Standing there, unhyphenated and united, this black man has never felt more free in his life."

So ends a brilliant article entitled "A Black Man Goes To Glenn Beck's Rally", written by Jerome Hudson. You can read it here.

"In my last column, I wrongly wrote that two Russian jets strayed close to Canadian airspace. As several readers have noted, they were bombers."

"Instead of green action, we got static over the census, the gun registry, the prime minister's imperial ways, the imaginary opposition "coalition" and the latest deadlocked polls which look a lot like the previous deadlocked polls. "UM report labels Discovery Channel incident “politically inspired terrorism”"

"TOP FINDINGS

# Given the nature of James Lee’s political and social goals and his use of illegal force, this incident would qualify as a terrorist incident, according to the definition of START’s Global Terrorism Database (GTD).

# Although hostage-takings like the one in Silver Spring are extremely rare globally, representing less than one percent of all terrorist attacks worldwide since 1970, three have occurred in the District of Columbia.

# Environmentally motivated perpetrators, like the gunman in this event, have been active in the United States since the 1970s.

# Environmentally motivated attacks almost always have no casualties but have caused tens of millions of dollars in property damage.

# In the event that the Discovery Communications attacker indeed wore explosives that he intended to detonate, this would be the first recorded incident of environmentally motivated suicide terrorism in the United States, and likely the first worldwide."

"[Muslim] Cleric wants Dutch politician beheaded
By BEN BERKOWITZ, Reuters

AMSTERDAM - A well-known Australian Muslim cleric has called for the beheading of Dutch anti-Islamic politician Geert Wilders, a newspaper said on Friday.

Wilders' Freedom Party scored the biggest gains in June 9 polls and is currently negotiating to form a new minority government with the Liberals and Christian Democrats. Polls show Wilders would win a new election if one were called now.

Wilders demanded to know why he had learnt about the threat from the newspaper and not from Dutch authorities who are guarding him after a film and remarks he made angered Muslims around the world.

De Telegraaf, the Netherlands' largest newspaper, led its front page on Friday with a story on the speech by Feiz Muhammad.

The Sydney-born Muhammad has gained notoriety for, among other things, calling on young children to be radicalised and blaming rape victims for their own attacks.

The paper posted an English-language audio clip in which he refers to Wilders as "this Satan, this devil, this politician in Holland""and explains that anyone who talks about Islam like Wilders does should be executed by beheading."

Lets compare:

Glenn Beck's "restoring honor" rally:

"CBS News commissioned a crowd size estimate with aerial pictures by the company AirPhotosLive.com. The company estimated that 87,000 people attended the rally, with a margin of error of 9,000, meaning that "between 78,000 and 96,000 people attended the rally"."

Farrakhan's 1995 "Million Men March":

From Wikipedia :"Dr. Farouk El-Baz and a team of ten research associates and graduate students at the Center for Remote Sensing at Boston University released an estimate of 870,000 people with a margin of error of about 25 percent. They arrived at this figure by enlarging aerial photographs taken by the Park Service and counting crowd density.[25] They later revised that figure to 837,000 ±20% (669,600 to 1,004,400). "

TJ never ceases to amaze me

“We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds…(we will) have no time to think, no means of calling our mis-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers… And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for (another)… till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery… And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression.”

– Thomas Jefferson

The CBC's hidden agenda?
--------------------------

CBC may demand accountability from the government but Canada’s taxpayer-funded broadcaster is going to court once again in order to keep its own affairs secret.

...close to 900 complaints have been filed. While some of those cases were resolved and a small number were found to be without merit, as of June the information commissioner had 498 active complaints against CBC.

Re Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor rally in Washington last weekend, that hundreds of thousands attended, Timothy Dalrymple has written a fine article, “Have We Squandered Our Cultural Inheritance?”

“. . . The deep concern across the United States appears to be that we have squandered our cultural inheritance. We have exchanged the extraordinary treasury of Judeo-Christian stories, values, and wisdom that sustained us for generations in favor of the cheap culture of corruption, indolence, and dissolution that has swiftly bankrupted our economy and our government. . . .

“What is clear is this: Something has changed. Alongside the political Tea Party movement there has arisen a predominantly moral and spiritual movement. Christians were always over-represented at Tea Party rallies, yet now they are sensing that this present darkness over our once-shining city is caused by an enduring national neglect of the wisdom that made this nation shine in the first place. ‘Something beyond imagination is happening,’ as Beck himself said from the stage. ‘Something that is beyond man is happening.’ The devil will be in the details, but for now let us hope it is true that ‘America today begins to turn back to God.’

notes for vits trip

the US ferry service from prince rupert to Haines has either cabins of you can camp on the upper deck

the road to the coast from Fairbanks along the pipleline beats the crap out of the shale road to Inuvik , which will cost you two tires going and two a year later. the road north of Fairbanks even has paved sections way up in the middle of nowhere.

Ive driven every road on that map and some.

I rode much of that route. Not shown: cross Yukon River on free ferry and do Top of the World Highway; paved up to the border. Gravel road at border, arcs back to Alaska Highway, passing through Chicken.

You must do Chicken.

Michael J. Totten quotes from Pascal Bruckner's book The Tyranny of Guilt: An Essay on Western Masochism:

From existentialism to deconstructionism, all of modern thought can be reduced to a mechanical denunciation of the West, emphasizing the latter's hypocrisy, violence, and abomination. In this enterprise the best minds have lost much of their substance. Few of them have avoided succumbing to this spiritual routine: one applauds a religious revolution, another goes into ecstasies over the beauty of terrorist acts or supports a guerrilla movement because it challenges our imperialist project. Indulgence toward foreign dictatorships, intransigence toward our democracies. An eternal movement: critical thought, at first subversive, turns against itself and becomes a new conformism, but one that is sanctified by the memory of its former rebellion…This repeated use of the scalpel against ourselves we call the duty of repentance…

"First of all, the duty to repent forbids the Western bloc, which is eternally guilty, to judge or combat other systems, other states, other religions. Our past crimes command us to keep our mouths closed. Our only right is to remain silent."

(via Mick Hartley)

Posted by: Me No Dhimmi at September 3, 2010 6:24 PM

To go along with EBD's Guilt theme, I have resurrected an old column by J.Kay White and Guilty :

"The central theme of the course was that this twinned combination of capitalism and racism has produced a cult of “white privilege,” which permeates every aspect of our lives. “Canada is a white supremacist country, so I assume that I’m racist,” one of the students said matter-of-factly during our first session. “It’s not about not being racist. Because I know I am. It’s about becoming less racist.”

Lately I have been watching some old BBC documentaries like "Civilization" and "Ascent of Man". They are a good antidote to the constant trashing of western culture. Its hard to believe that UK academics were not always the bunch of statist, PC whiners that they are today.

I don't feel the least bit guilty for the riches of the Judeo-Christian dispensation. Actually, about that, I'm distinctly proud.

EBD @ 3:49 and LC Bennett @ 7:38:

The left's attempts to induce unearned guilt in the average man is indeed part of its attempt to destroy western civilization. Ayn Rand noticed this trend and discussed it in her essay "Altruism as Appeasement".
