"Only when you get to the seventh paragraph do you learn ...."
Posted by Kate at August 31, 2010 12:46 PMThis is why we should have had a referendum on same-sex marriage, as one example of something that was probably not as popular as the pundits would have us believe after the fact.
And if we could have decided as a country rather than a minister's bureaucracy about the scale of immigration 20-30 years ago, that would have been a good thing too.
We say we live in a democracy, but it looks a lot more like an oligarchy of special interest groups from where I sit.
What's needed is a whole different attitude in the CPC towards the media, let the conservative people of Canada have their say through their party, and when the media pundits start in on us, instead of going all soft and accommodating, we should just say this -- you know what, Sparky, we really don't give a **** what you think a "Canadian" should do, but since you're in that mode of thinking, why don't you take a --
Oh well, I can dream, right?
Posted by: Peter O'Donnell at August 31, 2010 1:01 PMJust like here. The entitled Elites are at war with the people.
They are the wise ones. The rest just stupid peons.
Of course the official press is on the side of the Elites against even their own readership.

Well this should assuage the Left's concerns about the Arizona immigration law; after all, Europe is doing it!
Posted by: Indiana Homez at August 31, 2010 1:33 PMMost people bail after the third paragraph anyways, so it's like it was never said.
Posted by: Indiana Homez at August 31, 2010 1:35 PMHaving lived in Europe I can speak from an objective viewpoint. I smashed an umbrella on one of these lovable gypsies when he had his hand in my pocket. This culture, which thrives on thievery, was kicked out of India because even the Untouchables were held in greater esteem.
That's not racism, that's reality - keep them out of Canada; picking pockets is not grounds for refugee status.
Posted by: Aviator at August 31, 2010 1:39 PMWherever they turn up in France the crime wave goes through the roof.
Go into any Police Building and they have a sheet of gypsy code symbols they use to chalk on people's fences/doors etc so that they know if it is safe to rob the place - they use "advance parties" that move into a territory, before the main gang of families, to scout out the crime opportunities.
They have a symbol for "angry dog" and many people mark this on their property to deter the thieves.
Gypsy/Roma = Organized Crime.
Maybe France has backbone after all.
One person's intolerance is another person's glimpse at sanity. We have taken tolerance to a point of outright stupidity.
This tolerance thing is no longer tolerable. We need to be adults and call a spade a spade.
Some people don't deserve to be welcomed and those numbers are huge.
Good on Sarkozy and good on Arizona.
We want our peaceful co operative society back and as in the past we will need to get mean and nasty to get it.
That is reality and that is sanity.
Posted by: Abe 'Swine' Froman at August 31, 2010 2:01 PMFrom France, another example of the media whistling past the graveyard.
So whats up? Simple. For centuries now, the Ruling Elite has got away with their undemocratic rule even though they make up a very small portion of the total population.
The Ruling Elites impose their! will, not the will of the people. They have got away with it so far because they hold the critical cards. Politicians (of all stripes). Judiciary. "Higher" Education. Hollywood. Celebrities. Idols. And, especially, the Media.
In days gone by, the Ruling Class imposed their ways through Kings & Queens and the Clergy and the media. (Obey! or the sun will go black next Tuesday - an eclipse that only the Elite knew was coming)
It is no different now but we know about it because of the Internet. The Elites will try tooth and nail to control it. Be aware - B.Hoax Aware.
The media is whistling because they believe their! good times will never end.
Posted by: ron in kelowna ∴ at August 31, 2010 2:11 PMAh, but it was only 2/3s of those queried. Of course the rest of the population, those that weren't part of the sample, are all opposed to it.
Posted by: Louise at August 31, 2010 2:31 PMHey, at least they printed the stat. In Canada, it might never see the light of day.
Case in point: the gun registry, which has been propped up as necessary and good for WEEKS now by CBC, G&M and The Star despite some two-thirds of Canadians approving of its dismantling.

Like this story about Ignatieff and the gun registry. CTV reports the pro side's political talking points and fails to mention that over 90% of front line police indicated they oppose the registry in a recent survey. Not waiting for the asteroid.

Posted by: Smitherenzes at August 31, 2010 3:33 PM"Former prime minister Dominique de Villepin, once Sarkozy’s boss and now his adversary, said the president’s actions have stained the French flag." Now won't that be an improvement, instead of white it's going to have some coloured stain on it.
Posted by: Antenor at August 31, 2010 3:41 PM***sigh***
you know how hard it is for us gypsies to make a decent living stealing now that we have to contend with Chinese junk:-)))
Slanted story by slanted story by shrill column, the MSM is steadily losing its reputation as the reliable, impartial source of news and information with more and more people.
Viewer/Readership ratings don't lie. And prospective and current advertisers are blind or ignorant of them. To stay in business the MSM needs customers to have advertisers. They seem blind to that fact. They will persish if they do not pull off the scales...

Apparently the first lady of France is prostitute according to this recent Iranian news story...

Carla Bruni-Sarkozy 'a prostitute', claims Iranian media
Keyhan daily attacked French first lady after she condemned stoning sentence against woman convicted of adultery.
One wonders if the 1st Lady of France is a prostituée what pray tell is the President of France?
Perhaps the Iranian media can explain how President Sarkozy has become a 'pimp' or "maquereau" of 'Arizona on the Seine'?
We like to take this time to thank Monsieur Villepin and the Iranian media for the alleged "staining of the French flag."
And what was it about hurling stones:
And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst."
"When Jesus had lifted up Himself, and saw none but the woman, He said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Hath no man condemned thee?"
"She said, No man, Lord."
"And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more." (John 8:2-11 KJV)
