1998 Warmest Ever?

So says one of four data sets:

Dr. Hansen thinks that warming has continued unabated since 1998, while HadCrut, RSS and UAH think it has stopped or slowed to a crawl.

Is the climate favorable to talk about the weather? ;-)

1998? NO! 1932 was the hottest...Read this article from 2005:

You think data for social engineering causes just happens? It has to be manufactured!

Looking for clarification - The NYT just released an article on the warmest years and the 30s wasn't even in the top ten. Was the article mentioned by Right Honourable Terry Tory found to be incorrect or are they now blantantly lying to us... ok, we all knew they always were lying but now they are not even trying to hide it. Its as if the factual record has just disappeared for them or something.

Climate Scientology . . . . the alchemy of our generation, exploited by the eco-gfifters, all for huge profits.

The 30's warming and MWP didn't happen. Nowadays, time is divided into two eras - Before Baby Boomers (BBB) & After Baby Boomers (ABB). The importance of BBB politics, climate and economics are judged by its conformity to the "progressive" ABB era. If ancient BBB observations agree with progressive ABB ideology then it is accepted. If BBB historical facts deviated from The Truth then they must disappear or be revised. Unfortunately, not much can be done to restore sanity until a Post Baby Boom(PBB) recovery.

My lyin' eyes tell me its cooler these days than 1998. Better skiing, longer winter, 100 Year Maximum ice damn and flood on the Grand River last year...

I'm going to buy me an F-250 crew cab, see if I can slow down the glaciers' return by doing donuts in the driveway.

"Russian heat wave dents hopes of climate 'winners'
By Alister Doyle, Reuters

OSLO - Russia’s summer heat wave has dimmed prospects that northern countries will “win””from climate change thanks to factors such as longer crop-growing seasons or fewer deaths from winter cold, experts say.

Canada, Nordic countries and Russia have been portrayed as among a lucky few chilly nations where moderate climate change will mean net benefits such as lower winter heating bills, more forest and crop growth and perhaps more summer tourism.

Russia’s two-month heat wave — blamed on global warming by President Dmitry Medvedev even though many experts say it is impossible to link individual weather events to climate change — is likely to shift the perceptions of risks.

“There ought to be, coming out of this, a greater awareness that many hazards come with climate change,” said Kevin Trenberth, head of climate analysis at the U.S. National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado.

“It’s not a matter of a benign shift to a longer growing season””for northern nations, he said. Russia’s heat wave doubled death rates in Moscow, wrecked a quarter of Russia’s grain crop and may cut $14 billion from gross domestic product.

Many people in Nordic nations and Canada have grown aware of possible damaging side-effects of less chill weather, including the risk to forests and crops of insect pests normally kept in check by winter frosts.

Russia's heat wave was due to a static jet stream pattern that allowed heat to build up over Russia and dumped loads of rain on Pakistan.

JMD: Exactly ... a "blocking high".

I sure get tired of all the talk about stopping climate change. Why can`t people do a little research and make the mind altering discovery that mankind can not do anything about climate except bitch about it or glory in it depending on the weather at that particular time. Those that think mankind has the power to alter the climate are suffering a severe case of Delusions of Grandeur.

Those that think mankind has the power to alter the climate are suffering a severe case of Delusions of Grandeur.

How do you define "alter" in this context?

Posted by: John Galt at August 20, 2010 5:31 PM

John Galt
Your fraternal socialist allies had this occur in the '30's and late '60's.
Stalin blamed the kulocs and wrechers and pruged murdered thousands.....Khruschev was overthrown by Breznov.
A good-ol-boy said ya do what they do in Georgia when it rains....let it.

"Those that think mankind has the power to alter the climate are suffering a severe case of Delusions of Grandeur."

that nails it....
Like the "humungous, disasterous, long term effects of the Gulf oil spill.....literally a drop in the ocean....mankind has as much influence on global weather as the cry of a curlew....
The warmongers denial of Urban Heat Island Effect illustrates that Anthpogenic effects are very localised and minor. It has been established that the observed warming of the 20th century was UHI effects and cherrying picking to emphacise urban/airport reading and to drop rural, high altitude and high latitude readings

"BTW...the COLD WAR is over and your side lost"

yes but communists and their nasty little socialist cousins never give up; the puzzling thing is even seeing the evil of their chosen system there always seem to be more willing acolytes; guess they don't realize that only a chosen few get to be part of the party elite and it won't be them

Posted by: x2para at August 21, 2010 12:38 AM

Cut the crap sasquatch. The personal attacks directed at me are pointless. I don't believe in AGW so you're barking up the wrong tree. Just focus on trying to express your own views clearly instead of trying to interpret what you think others are implying. It's obvious you don't have a clue. All you're doing is making yourself look more foolish.

I think some folks take great comfort in being afraid of something abstract and out of their control. This allows them to think of themselves as brave and courageous while they are wetting their pants over the possibilities of a change in the climate. Courage is off the hook if the bogeyman is fearsome enough! Thirdbase

Patience science takes time. Lies travel halfway... Look at the hockey stick. Hansen will get his.

Can't believe I agree w JG. To a point. Up to the personal stuff, which he would do better to avoid.

2010 is shaping up to be the hottest year ever at this rate. But that's all been faked right?

The good news is that we don't need to send Predator drones into the Swat Valley to blow up people's houses anymore.

"BTW...the COLD WAR is over and your side lost."

True enough, but the communists flocked en masse to the "environmental movement", which is highly marxist in nature, and completely anti-capitalism, anti-property rights, and anti-liberty. It's the perfect place for them to continue their fight against western values, as the opposition to "the environment" is much less vocal than that towards communism. They've made appalling gains against the West, without so much as firing a shot. Old commie hardliners such as kruschev and brezhnev must be spinning in jealousy. Vaclav Klaus, ex-president of the Czech Republic, noted that the shift of the communists to the so-called "green" movement was the biggest threat to liberty and freedom we face. And it's true: come out against the eco-watermeloners (green on the outside, red on the inside) and often you speak alone: there is nearly a social faux pas associated with challenging the current script on the environment, as set by the Left.

But as has been noted in this blog, more recently... we're catching up and getting the message out.

And Fred, the term "climate scientology" is a gem; I'm gonna borrow that one.
