Reader Tips

A couple of days ago I stumbled across an interesting YouTube channel that hosts an extensive collection of national anthems with English subtitles. Most of the anthems are remarkably similar, with common themes of pride, honour, beauty, and the duty to stand up for and defend the great nation. The Chinese national anthem, though, written in 1934 and used as the anthem since 1949, stands out from the rest by virtue of sounding entirely like a fighting song; its lyrics are more about mortal peril and unnamed enemies than about the country itself. Here, with English subtitles, is the March of the Volunteers.

Republican candidate for Congress George Demos:

“On September 11, 2001, over 3,000 Americans, including 168 residents of our community in Suffolk County, were taken from us by the evil acts of Islamic extremists bent on destroying our freedoms. Amid the thick smoke and choking ashes of (9/11), the St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church was reduced to dust.

"Since 1922, St. Nicholas Church had stood as a quiet sanctuary of prayer and reflection amidst the tumultuous and bustling crossroads of commerce. For nine years the Port Authority of New York/New Jersey has used bureaucratic obstacles and false promises to hinder the rebuilding of the St. Nicholas Church.

"What an outrage that our government has put roadblocks in the path of its own citizens trying rebuild their beloved Church destroyed by Islamic extremists, while Saudi Arabia, a nation that prohibits people from even wearing a Cross or the Star of David, now provokes the families of those who lost loved ones by apparently funneling money to build a mosque at the same location."

And that, I believe, EBD, is the crux of the issue for most Americans.

his comments i suppose could be heartfelt...i certainly hope so.

as to the ironies he offers up ?...well...to intellects of a certain sensibility they are obvious and a clear and present danger...

but will the tide of public and political opinion which is still being soft pedaled in a minor key sway the 'deciders'..

i think it will ....i think the big O is going to have to go to the people on this one...imagine HIM playing the populist !

off to make popcorn and chill some cervezas...because this is ain't going away...and it will be most amusing watching the tap dancing and the minuets by the Dems....

An interesting turn of events, right here:

Warning this is a world socialist website.

Notice how things change, now the union bosses want to cut pay of the workers to reduce cost of the company they run.

One of the best examples, in comment form, that I've read outlining the liberal/progressive mindset that identifies their blatant hypocrisy in respect to the proposed mosque at Ground Zero (bolded line is me favourite):

blackirishblonde

I love Liberals…
When it came to Healthcare Reform, we were told we were MORALLY obligated, but not legally bound to provide healthcare until they whined…and passed it in the dark of night.

When it came to immigration, we were told we are MORALLY obligated to let everyone in, despite our laws saying we’re not legally bound to let everyone in. [going so far as] Even to the point of suing one of our OWN states.

When it comes to building a mosque on the bodies of our fallen, we are told that our hands are legally tied, but now we are NOT MORALLY obligated to speak up about it.

For the liberals, every day is opposite day! Wrong is wrong. YOU ALL KNOW THIS IS WRONG!!!! I believe not one person in this Great Country will raise a hammer, or strike a nail at Ground Zero to build this mosque.

SASKATOON ONE BIG SHIT HOLE. Saskatoon has turned into a real crappy place. Everywhere you look you find SAND ANG GRAVEL on the streets. This was to be picked up during what they call the big sweep in the spring. Some industrial areas even look as if no street sweeper bothered to clean the street. Preston AVE. leading into Stonebridge has sides of the east lane not there any more. It also floods every time it rains. The streets downtown are riddled with holes and bumps and are a disgrace for a city that sells itself as "SASKATOON SHINES". It's a brilliant marketing canpaign but a bunch of BULL SHIT. River Landing is the target of daily vandallism. You can build it but animals will be animals. The city has red circled 47 percent of it's staff and there will be no wage increases for the next 6 years. I am counting on them to freeze my taxes as well. LOL. Don Atchison has been a great failure. This tax and spend Liberal along with Bev Dubois have spent all they could and then some. The city wants to spend another 2 million on social housing. This money comming from surplus revenue from the land bank. You know, buy a lot off the city for 120,000, then you are taxed at a higher rate because the city controls the land, and what do you know, more money for the poor. I pay more in land taxes than a poor person pays for his SUBSIDIZED LOW INCOME HOUSING. Meanwhile at city hall, Murray Totland, city manager will be getting annual 5 percent wage increases of 10,000, 12,000 and 10,000 over the next 3 years. Keep voting for Don you fools of Saskatoon and see what he has next for the fools of Saskatoon.

"The Tree Ring Circus

John Dawson

The Hockey Stick Illusion is the shocking story of a graph called the Hockey Stick. It is also a textbook of tree ring analysis, a code-breaking adventure, an intriguing detective story, an exposé of a scientific and political travesty, and the tale of a herculean struggle between a self-funded sceptic and a publicly funded hydra, all presented in the measured style of an analytical treatise. The hero of the story is Steve McIntyre, honourably assisted by fellow sceptics, especially by Ross McKitrick. The villain is Michael Mann, dishonourably assisted by global warming alarmists, especially by his “Hockey Team”. The bare bones of the Hockey Stick story are as follows." (more)

Power Line has reported that Nancy Pelosi thinks there should be an investigation into the opposition to the Ground Zero Mosque: if all left-wingers aren’t crazy, she certainly is. Here’s what she said on a radio show:

"There is no question there is a concerted effort to make this a political issue by some. And I join those who have called for looking into how is this opposition to the mosque being funded, How is this being ginned up that here we are talking about Treasure Island, something we've been working on for decades, something of great interest to our community as we go forward to an election about the future of our country and two of the first three questions are about a zoning issue in New York City."

The tyranny of white left-liberal guilt.

Liberal Ziffy/Rae, et al, are self-anointed members of the white left-liberal guilt-ridden intellectuals.

“The indisputable failure of “regimes thought to incarnate the new revolutionary Eden,” Bruckner notes, has resulted in a nihilistic turning inward by many Western intellectuals. “We hate ourselves much more than we love others,” he observes. “The malaise, ceasing to be supported by a political project, gnaws away at Western consciousness from within.” This remorse, almost completely disconnected from historical reality, “has become a dogma, a spiritual commodity, almost a form of currency.” Bruckner anatomizes the malaise with precision, condemns it as a “moral decay” sickening the West (Europe especially), and proposes an intellectual remedy.”

No to white left-liberal guilt.

A Review of the Tyranny ofGuilt: An Essay on Western Masochism

by Pascal Bruckner,Steven Rendall

Shortly after taking office in 2009, President Barack Obama declared America’s need to “restore” good relations with Muslims, forging a new way forward “based on mutual interest and mutual respect.” Many critics, including the columnist Charles Krauthammer, read the president’s comments as an unwarranted apology for American actions in the struggle against Islamic radicalism. The United States was at least partly to blame for the Islamic world’s anger, Obama seemed to imply; the rage and threats of obliteration directed at Americans, the death-dealing terror—our actions must have provoked them. When President Obama later bowed before the Saudi King Abdullah (among other world leaders), it reinforced the impression: we needed to change our ways.”

Batb- @6:37. That was a good vid.
Of course, none of PMSH's appearances ever make the 6 o'clock newscasts, barring some alleged trumped up scandal, but Iggy's bus stop at some ten-seat diner in Podunk will get a two minute blurb (whether the patrons like it or not- some look a tad foolish feigning the hype); and Jacko, well, he'll somehow get his mug into the frame if there's a camera within a city block.
MSM complicity, duplicity? How dare I even suggest such a thing!

From the Claire Berlinski article linked by Robert W. @ 12:33 p.m.:

"Today, the mildly redistributive welfare state liberalism of the 1960s, which accepted the corporate dominance of economic decision-making, can no longer be the programmatic basis for a majoritarian progressive politics. New Deal and Great Society liberalism depended upon redistribution at the margins of an ever-expanding economic pie. But today corporations no longer aspire to expand production and consumption by raising global living standards; rather, global capital engages in a race to increase profits by 'downsizing' and lowering wages."

This is blaming the victims. The "mildly redistributive" welfare state is distortive enough to erode the middle class and to cause real wages to stagnate. Corporations react to economic inputs the same way they always do. The "democratic socialists" are advocating a full dose of the poison that is killing us.

This is my favorite anthem,

Oceania

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S6psBoDDJUo

'Strong and peaceful, wise and brave,
Fighting the fight for the whole world to save,
We the people will ceaselessly strive
To keep our great revolution alive!
Unfurl the banners! Look at the screen!
Never before has such glory been seen!
Oceania! Oceania! Oceania, tis for thee!
Every deed, every thought, tis for thee!
Every deed, every thought, tis for thee!
Every deed, every thought, tis for thee!'

Says it all really.

The Chinese anthem is apropos for the timeframe it was written. Very much like the US anthem, especially the verses not sung at football games:

on the shore dimly seen, through the mist of the deep, where the foes haughty host in silence reposes.....

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slaveFrom the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave.

DJ, agreed much on the city, although the street conditions is mostly due to the 40+ inches of rain that we've had, with rain every day it has been difficult to get the sweepers out consistently, and moisture breeds potholes.

As for Atch, well they said this AM on CKOM that his new art gallery Icon was not balooning upwards of $65,000,000. $65m for an art gallery. $325 for every man woman and child in the city. Enough is enough, the problem is there really anyone standing to oppose him.

Wouldn't it be more accurate to say that the Liberal$ whole agenda (when we can figure out what it is) is embarrassing Canadians?

Forget "the world," Mr. Garneau. Credibility begins at home, and that would be Canada.
