"I wish to resign from the House of Representatives effective immediately, and to discontinue my re-election campaign for Strafford County District 7," the letter says. "I apologize for thoughtless remarks I made which have brought this House into disrepute. I enjoyed my time in the House and I thank you personally for your support over the years."Posted by Kate at August 15, 2010 9:37 AMHorrigan also sent a statement to the New Hampshire Union Leader, which read, "I would like to offer a specific apology for making comments about Sarah Palin which could be--- and were--- misconstrued. She is, as far as I know, not a bad person at all--- and certainly she deserves to live a long and happy life."
hey - how about that mealy mouthed reference to Palin of ''as far as I know, not a bad person at all'. That's the 'passive-agressive' mode of insulting someone. After all, he's actually saying that with a little more knowledge, he could actually come to the more 'accurate' conclusion that she is indeed, a 'bad person'.
Posted by: ET at August 15, 2010 9:52 AMI don't see why these fine, upstanding DemocRats should have to resign. Its the Republicans who have all the hate and bile and murder/death/kill-iness right?
Ask any Liberal, they'll tell you.
Misconstrued, sure it was.
No doubt this fellow and his leftist pals have no problem seeing Havana and Caracas from their house.
Hope it works our for Sarah Palin to give these pseudo-commies a comeuppance.
Posted by: Ken (Kulak) at August 15, 2010 9:55 AMHow, exactly, do you misconstrue “I don’t wish Sarah Palin dead … but not merely for compassionate reasons…Well a dead Palin wd be even more dangerous than a live one…she is all about her myth & if she was dead she cldn’t commit any more gaffes,” ?
Is there something else than vile hatered to be read into this?
Posted by: AtlanticJim at August 15, 2010 9:56 AMWhy is he allowed to resign? Uteering death threats is a felony. Why isn't he fighting felony charges to stay out of jail?
Again we see the us 'n them justice system. The political class never pay for their crimes.
Posted by: Bill at August 15, 2010 10:19 AMNH voters empowered this man to make their laws?
No, Tim Horrigan's words were not misconstrued, they were understood.
The question is, how many other leftists had the same thought?
Posted by: David at August 15, 2010 10:20 AMBill is right, it is us and them. The politicians are the ruling class, and we are their subjects, bound to obey them.
Posted by: David at August 15, 2010 10:27 AMBill - I like Palin as much as the next neocon - and I really like how crazy she makes people I don't like - but that was not a death threat. It was ugly speculation, but he didn't threaten her.

Posted by: Phillip G. Shaw at August 15, 2010 10:58 AMPalin isn't even running in New Hampshire and she beat this guy. Not only did he lose his race, but he probably just shot his entire political career.
This is all sooooo entertaining.
It's almost slapstick the way these dems are tripping over their big mouths and lack of morals, not to mention their felonious behavior in the case of those crooked black caucus members and every democrat in the Chicago area.
Looks like we are winning these current battles, but I think the overwhelming numbers of collectivists world wide will eventually swallow us up.
Then it will be a long long war with the Yangs vs Comms. Member that old Star Trek gem. In that episode the point was made the "Freedom" is a holy word. And it is folks.
Posted by: Abe Froman at August 15, 2010 11:07 AMYes, what I also find so entertaining is how Sarah drives the Ruling Class utterly crazy.
Why is that? Because they see a threat to their "fascism by chaos' ways? Deep down they know most Americans are on her wavelenght? She is everything an Elitist is not? A threat to their "right" of not responsible for one's actions? The realization that BJC fresh tail era has pitfalls?

My headstone may have these words:
"Born Free. Lived Free. Died Free. Slave to none."
The alternate may be a "Trudeau Salute".

Mealy mouthed indeed. Why is it that these politicians can never issue an unqualified apology? They're always misunderstood, misconstrued, or taken out of context.
And, I love his comment that "she is not a bad person." Heh, love the way he frames the context in which he wants us to view her, that she MAY be a bad person by suggesting the opposite. Sort of like when Nixon said, "I am not a crook," after which, everybody saw him as a crook.

[........Actually, I'm surprised that making a tasteless joke is a firing offense, sometimes for a Republican, never for a Democrat. I think something else is going on. What were his chances of re-election?......]
NIL!! Whatever else the Democrats like our LIBRANOs are adept but totally unprincipled politicians. They seem to have an instinct about these things...this guy goofed bigtime and had to be thrown beneath the bus.
Lefties, like pigs, can see the wind....and it's blowing up a storm for November....
They also genuinely dread a civil war....unarmed without the support of the military.
ron in kelowna @11:47 - She's a woman*, she's a conservative, she didn't go to an Ivy League school. And she hunts, which is frightfully vulgar. And her accent - quelle horreur! She's Not Quite Our Class, Dear; therefore obviously a moron and a pervert.
And I suspect certain women are turning guilt into hatred and projecting it onto her for refusing to abort her child; a child with Down Syndrome, no less!
Then there's envy; she's beautiful, successful, apparently happy, and she has a large family. That's pretty uppity for a dumb chillbilly.
There is something surreal about seeing snobbery ratcheted up to the point of obsession and hysteria.
* lefty "progressive" men are almost invariably misogynists.
Curious @ 11:49
That wasn't a note of surrender.
I understand, and agree with your sentiment, but the ugly fact remains that liberals are thugs, and thugs willingly use force on anyone in their way.
They use armtwisting ( such as political correctness), when that is sufficient to achieve their ends, but criminalizing non-compliance with their agenda, so that the police batons and threat of prison can be employed to INSURE they are obeyed, shows where there hearts are, versus the people.
To retain ( or regain ) our liberties, liberals, to the last man, must be shown the door. Their goal is domination.
Black Mamba @ 1:22 and ron in kelowna @ 11:47
That's the left's hatred of Sarah Palin in a nutshell.
Particularly, re: " lefty "progressive" men are almost invariably misogynists ". Sarah doesn't submit to her " betters ", while at the same time not letting them get under her skin.
The Ruling Class want all to acknowledge their superiority. Her maintaining a cheerful disposition under their attacks is in their view the worst possible effrontery and insolence.
Everything they do shouts: " For your rebellion against us, we will break you, destroy you, make you wish you were never born, Palin!
Theirs is a hatred that will burn to the grave.
Posted by: David at August 15, 2010 1:59 PMI don't know what is worse, the original "death wish" or the insincere apology that followed and always does, as sure as night follows day.
If a politician doesn't like his opponent, why not expound on exactly WHY he does not,ie,lack of principles, experience, character, etc.
I don't think any of that IS the problem though, it's a visceral hatred of someone who may thwart the pols journey to the public trough and the gold plated life afterward.
Just be honest you guys, here's a quote you can all use to refer to your opponents," I hate that sonofabitch because he might WIN and I might LOSE!"
And don't apologize afterward.

Posted by: PoppahH at August 15, 2010 3:45 PMAnd never forget, that's what they think about most of us as well. And in 99.99% of cases, they won't be resigning, retracting or rethinking.
Posted by: Peter O'Donnell at August 15, 2010 5:47 PM"Why is that?"
It's because Sarah Palin personifies everything that the Left despises. Furthermore, her being a woman shatters each and every myth the Left holds dear.

Where can we all sign up? No Income tax. Wow.
I thought we where Lucky in Alberta being the only province with no sales tax. You guys keep it up. Buisness likes that scenario.
You may weather Obama's storm better than most, because of such enlightened policies.
Took us ages just to get a set provincial income tax at 14% I believe for everyone the same rate no matter what you make, except the poor(Those under 30,000).
NH though beats us by a mile.
Nothing gets a Lefty's blood boiling like an uppity redneck.
Posted by: tim in vermont at August 15, 2010 6:34 PMWere I a Democrat, I wouldn't touch Sarah Palin with a 10 foot pole (unless of course I was Barak Obama). Then, I would meekly try not to attract her attention as I would tip-toe around a sleeping dragon.
Barak on the other hand needs Sarah Palin. Besides doing retarded things like voicing support for a mosque at Ground Zero; Barak Obama has worn-off his shine with the American people and is more likely to evoke yawning fits than motivate his supporters when he bloviates. Sarah Palin provides TOTUS a coattail to ride when he needs his fix of adoration from the pipples.
I watch Sarah Palin with great interest, she’s a major player and nobody knows what she’s capable of. My guess is she will be the VP on someone’s Presidential ticket in 2012. Right now I’d have to say I’m in Rudy’s camp but there are a lot of potential candidates I’d consider voting for. Also Newt Gingrich would be a great Presidential candidate with Sarah Palin on the ticket.
Today Newt Gingrich is the most articulate voice in support of conservative ideals in American politics combined with political savvy and know-how. With SP for my VP I would have her as my attack-dog on the campaign trail while I focused on message. Sarah Palin’s common sense approach bewilders liberal elites and leaves them defenceless to her frontal attacks.
On the bright-side, at least the Americans don’t have to deal with the complicated Census issue that could bring Canada on the brink of political Armageddon.
New license plate motto suggestion for NH --
"Talk right or STFU"
Posted by: Peter O'Donnell at August 15, 2010 7:37 PMPeter: I think the license plate motto that NH has had since '71 is still the best anywhere.

That's why I suggest SP as a running mate. To increase is electability.
Negatives aside, IMHO Newt is the most qualified.
